Chapter 296: Chapter 296: Covered in Tumors
Sheng Shiwu led the two uncles toward Su Shuochi’s office lab. The short walk was more than enough time for him to tell them all about Su Shuochi.
Ever since they were kids, their father had used Su Shuochi as a prime example to motivate him and his brothers. The straightforward Sheng Shiwu had admired Su Shuochi since he was young.
He wasn’t like his peers; the more their parents praised Su Shuochi, the more they resented him.
Ever since Sheng Shiwu saw his own sister’s two-faced and treacherous nature, he had stuck close to Su Shuochi and his wife.
His second brother was still suffering in dire straits, while he was living the good life with Su Shuochi every day. This made him admire Su Shuochi even more.
The two uncles from the Ren family knew Su Shuochi as well. They were still lamenting that a Zhan Lang like him would have to spend the rest of his long life in a wheelchair.
Hearing from Sheng Shiwu that Su Shuochi could make a full recovery, Eldest Uncle Ren was utterly shocked.
"Xiao Wu, are you saying Su Shuochi can really stand up again?"
"Jiaojiao said he can! Her master is incredible. My eldest brother almost died last time, and Jiaojiao’s master saved him."
"Eldest Uncle, Second Uncle, do you see this? This whole place is a factory built on land my brother-in-law bought. The medical equipment we’re making has already been nationally recognized."
Sheng Shiwu glanced around and whispered furtively to his two uncles.
"Is what you’re saying true?" Already stunned, Eldest Uncle Ren grew even more curious seeing his young nephew’s secretive demeanor.
Sheng Shiwu then blabbered on and on about Su Shuochi’s great achievements, though none of it was actually a secret.
"Third Brother, slacking off again?" Gao Xiangming had just left Su Shuochi’s office and teased Sheng Shiwu when he saw him on the path.
"Not at all. I’m on a mission from her highness to take my two uncles to find your guy, Su," Sheng Shiwu said smugly.
"Heh heh, Third Brother, you’re covered in dust. Why don’t I take our great-uncles over?"
"No need. You go on and get busy. Bye-bye~" Sheng Shiwu said his goodbyes to Gao Xiangming in a very Western style.
"Bye-bye." Although Gao Xiangming wasn’t used to foreign phrases, their "highness" also liked to say "bye-bye" all the time.
"Xiao Wu, you’re so popular," Second Uncle Ren said sincerely.
"Heh heh, I’m just average," Sheng Shiwu said, not wanting to tell his eldest cousin that he was just riding on Jiaojiao’s coattails.
"Xiao Wu, I think this is all because Jiaojiao is so popular. You’re just basking in her reflected glory, aren’t you?" Ren Fangyu mercilessly exposed him.
"They say some things are better left unsaid. Eldest Cousin, your tongue is as sharp as ever. Aren’t you afraid you’ll break out in sores?"
Ren Fangyu, who was covered in sores: ... ’Does my little cousin have to hit me right where it hurts?!’
"Su! Su! Jiaojiao told me to bring my two uncles to find you!"
When they reached Su Shuochi’s door, Sheng Shiwu didn’t even notice Ren Fangyu’s dejection, shouting thoughtlessly.
Su Shuochi had heard Sheng Shiwu’s voice long before they arrived. He had already put down the pen he was using to draw blueprints.
Wheeling himself to the door and not seeing Gu Jiaojiao, he asked worriedly, "Where’s Jiaojiao?"
"Jiaojiao said you should take my uncles to find some Divine Doctor first. She had something to take care of."
"Oh. Hello, Uncles. I’m Su Shuochi. Divine Doctor Su Gu happens to be here today. I’ll take you to her now."
"Hello, Shuo Ci. I knew of you many years ago. I never thought you’d end up marrying Jiaojiao."
Second Uncle Ren stepped forward and patted Su Shuochi’s shoulder, sighing with emotion.
If Su Shuochi weren’t in a wheelchair, Second Uncle Ren wouldn’t have been able to pat his shoulder so easily!
Su Shuochi’s smile was as pleasant as a spring breeze. "Hello, Second Uncle. For getting to marry Jiaojiao, I have the Sheng family’s second and third sons to thank!"
Hearing Su Shuochi’s words, Sheng Shiwu’s face filled with embarrassment. Without another word, he scurried off to move bricks.
He had just had a bottle of a drink Gu Jiaojiao gave him, and his earlier fatigue was completely gone.
"Old Three has become much more cheerful," Eldest Uncle Ren remarked, watching his young nephew’s retreating back.
’This must all be Jiaojiao’s doing. My other nephew, the one who doesn’t get along with Jiaojiao, is just overflowing with negativity all day long.’
Su Shuochi didn’t respond to Eldest Uncle Ren, simply maneuvering his wheelchair to lead the way toward Gu Jiaojiao’s lab.
’Knowing my wife,’ he thought, ’she’s probably already changed into her Su Gu disguise.’
The three members of the Ren family were so preoccupied with the excitement of about to meet Divine Doctor Su Gu that they paid no mind to Su Shuochi’s attitude.
They also failed to notice that Su Shuochi’s wheelchair was moving on its own, without anyone pushing it.
Su Shuochi knocked on the door, and it opened to reveal his wife with a head of wavy, chestnut-colored hair, wearing a perfectly fitted cheongsam and a pair of low-heeled shoes.
Her enchanting and graceful figure was enough to make one’s heart flutter, and Su Shuochi himself almost had a nosebleed.
Her features were even more bewitching than Gu Jiaojiao’s, with a beauty that seemed otherworldly. Even the pair of non-prescription glasses she wore couldn’t hide her stunning looks.
But her gaze was ice-cold. Seeing Su Shuochi and the three men from the Ren family, she showed none of the warmth one would expect from an acquaintance.
If Su Shuochi hadn’t seen his wife in this getup many times before, he wouldn’t have recognized her at first glance.
Therefore, the three Ren family members truly had no reason to suspect that the person before them was Gu Jiaojiao.
Their eyes were filled with nothing but shock. If they hadn’t already witnessed the medical skills of Divine Doctor Su Gu’s apprentice—their own niece and cousin—they would have been even more stunned.
They couldn’t imagine that such a young immortal was the Divine Doctor Su Gu.
"Divine Doctor Su Gu, these two are my wife’s adoptive uncles, and this is her eldest cousin. He is unwell, and I’m asking for your help in treating him."
Su Shuochi gave a formal introduction, though internally, he was bursting with pride, wanting to shout that the woman before them was his wife.
"Nonsense. If he wasn’t sick, why would you be here bothering me," Gu Jiao said coldly.
Eldest Uncle Ren rubbed his nose, saying awkwardly, "Please forgive us for this sudden intrusion, Divine Doctor."
"An encounter is a form of fate. Come in."
Gu Jiaojiao had originally intended to call Ren Fangyu in alone for the examination, but then she remembered how incredibly jealous her man could get, so she simply told them all to enter.
"Uncles, please, come in." Su Shuochi was ecstatic. He had been afraid his wife would call this incredibly handsome cousin in alone.
While she was putting on her makeup, Gu Jiaojiao had already detected the poison in Ren Fangyu’s system. It was a rare type of toxin.
Even with the advanced medicine and medical equipment in her space, she wasn’t certain she could cure it.
Fortunately, a medical book from Grandpa Gu described it. It required hemodialysis, a combination of Chinese and Western medicine, and silver needles. The treatment would take three months to fully heal him.
Gu Jiaojiao took his pulse again mainly for the sake of experience, so she would know what to do if she encountered such a case again.
"You’ve been poisoned for a long time. Lie down on the medical bed. I’ll use silver needles to alleviate your pain first."
"Divine Doctor, you’re truly amazing. You could tell how much pain I’m in just from taking my pulse?" Ren Fangyu was so moved that tears welled up in his eyes.
Eldest Uncle Ren helped his son take off his shirt. Su Shuochi and Gu Jiaojiao both looked at his back, which was completely covered in a dense spread of tumors.
Gu Jiaojiao had performed countless surgeries, both big and small, in her past life, but even she couldn’t help but stare at Ren Fangyu’s back for a few extra moments.
It was a good thing she was so mentally tough. A normal person would have been scared to death by the sight of all those tumors.
