Chapter 286: Chapter 286: Reaping What You Sow

SLAP! SLAP! The two sharp cracks of sound sent Sheng Yueyue stumbling, and she nearly fell to the ground.

Sheng Yueyue had just managed to steady herself when she looked up and saw Wen Qing rubbing her wrist.

The sight infuriated Sheng Yueyue. She didn’t even bother to rub her own stinging cheek.

She trembled with rage, lunged forward, and grabbed Wen Qing’s long hair with one hand. With the other, she began slapping her from both sides. SLAP! SLAP!...

Sheng Yueyue had only left the farm less than a year ago and hadn’t been living a life of pampered luxury for long, so she was exceptionally strong.

A series of heavy slaps left Wen Qing seeing stars, the pain so intense it made her question her own existence.

She dragged Wen Qing back, stared into her eyes, and roared, "You dare hit me? Do you have any idea who I am?"

Squinting through the pain, Wen Qing snapped back, "Who am I? Sheng Yueyue, let me tell you something. There’s nothing I hate more than someone pulling my hair."

As she spoke, she reached out and started pulling Sheng Yueyue’s hair, too. In an instant, neither could be bothered with threats anymore.

They had to settle this with their fists first. Soon, the two were a tangled mess, brawling again.

Just then, the crowd surrounding Su Shuochi and his wife was drawn by the commotion, and all eyes turned in their direction.

The Dong Family’s second uncle had invited many important and influential figures to his wedding, but most of them weren’t there out of respect for the Dong Family.

They had come mostly for Divine Doctor Su Gu. And while they knew the Divine Doctor himself wouldn’t attend, Su Shuochi—the only person who knew him—was here.

Uncle Song turned to see his own daughter-in-law dragging Mr. Wen’s daughter by the hair and slapping her. He was so furious he nearly fell over backward.

He strode over as fast as he could to pull Sheng Yueyue away. ’I could just slap her to death right now!’

A stunned Song Zijin also snapped out of it. Seeing that his father couldn’t restrain Sheng Yueyue, he reached out and wrapped his arms around her to hold her back.

’I’d rather slap her a couple of times myself,’ Song Zijin thought. But there were too many important people here; he had to maintain his image.

Wen Qing’s father and second brother also rushed over to pull her away, their eyes fixed on their precious daughter’s (and sister’s) face, which was swollen like a steamed bun.

Their hearts ached as they glared with uncontrollable fury at the aggressor. Aside from a few stray, messy hairs, Sheng Yueyue’s face showed no signs of being slapped at all.

But one couldn’t see any of the girl’s beauty either, for her face was twisted into a ferocious snarl.

In contrast, while Wen Qing’s face was swollen like a bun, her eyes were bright and watery, making her look quiet and pitiful.

"Hmph!" Sheng Yueyue snorted coldly, restrained by her father-in-law and held in her husband’s arms.

"Wen Qing, it doesn’t matter if you don’t remember who I am. I’ll tell you right now. I am... Mmph! Mmph!"

Uncle Song had clapped a hand over Sheng Yueyue’s mouth, terrified she would say something outrageous and bring irreversible trouble upon the Song Family.

"Sheng Yueyue, what was it you wanted to tell me? If you know what’s good for you, get out of here right now. Or else..."

Wen Qing shouted back, not to be outdone. She paused deliberately, her expression one of pure arrogance.

But Sheng Yueyue merely sneered. Since her mouth was covered, she shot Wen Qing a look of pure contempt.

In both her past life and this one, she had never left the ’grand compound’ after entering it, so she truly had no idea who Wen Qing’s father was.

Sheng Yueyue screamed internally, ’What? You think my connections are scary?’

’But my father and my father-in-law are nothing! The scariest thing is that I am the chosen one, the daughter of Heaven! Believe it or not, I could kill you in minutes.’

Luckily, no one could hear Sheng Yueyue’s inner thoughts. Otherwise, they would have died laughing on the spot.

Wen Qing saw Sheng Yueyue’s disdain for her threat, her eyes filled with ridicule.

Sheng Yueyue’s reaction caught Wen Qing by surprise, and she grew annoyed.

’Do I have to bring up my father’s official rank to make her back down? Does she really not know who my father is?!’

"Heh... Sheng Yueyue, you’re really not afraid of my father?" Wen Qing let out a small laugh, looking at Sheng Yueyue and enunciating every single word.

Her tone was level, but every word dripped with ice and resolve.

It was as if she would tear Sheng Yueyue to shreds if she didn’t immediately admit to being afraid of her father.

Sheng Yueyue truly wasn’t afraid in the slightest. She just couldn’t speak because her mouth was covered.

She shot Wen Qing a cold glance and continued her internal tirade: ’Who even is your father? Do you think he can beat the chosen one?’

"Head of the Song Family, you may take your family and leave now. Otherwise..."

Mr. Wen issued his warning, the full force of his authority on display.

Uncle Song’s heart hammered in his chest. A wave of fear washed over him, and he instinctively let go of Sheng Yueyue’s mouth and took a step back.

He switched to grabbing Sheng Yueyue with both hands, trying to drag her away. But now that she could speak, she immediately blurted out, "Who do you think you are? You dare touch me? Just you try..."

Unable to tolerate it any longer, Uncle Song gave Sheng Yueyue a huge slap in front of everyone, knocking her nearly to the ground.

"Shut up!" Song Zijin grabbed her and began to drag her outside, his handsome eyes filled with panic.

Sheng Yueyue, utterly consumed by rage, slapped Song Zijin across the face without a second thought.

Not to be outdone, Song Zijin started screaming and hitting Sheng Yueyue back. "You bitch! After causing your parents’ divorce, are you trying to destroy the Song Family now, too?"

The newlyweds fought like a pair of stray dogs. Song Zijin beat her as if to vent all his fury, while a bruised Sheng Yueyue shrieked hysterically.

"Song Zijin, are you even a man? What else can you do besides beat your wife? You finish the second you get it in..."

For the first time ever in public, Aunt Song roared, "Sheng Yueyue, shut your mouth! Get your ass back home now! Stop making a spectacle of yourself!"

Sheng Yueyue wanted to keep cursing, but then she thought about Song Zijin’s awful attitude. If she didn’t take the olive branch her vicious mother-in-law was offering...

...her brand-new marriage to Song Zijin would probably be over before it even began. So, with her tail between her legs, she could only follow her parents-in-law.

The banquet guests all sucked in a sharp breath. No one spoke. They had just witnessed quite a spectacle.

Gu Jiaojiao watched with great interest as Sheng Yueyue was beaten, cursed, and forced to struggle and dodge through the crowd. ’Her life back at the Song Family home isn’t going to be easy,’ she mused.

This was what they called reaping what you sow.

She didn’t even need to lift a finger. Sheng Yueyue had completely dug her own grave!

There are few people in the world like Sheng Yueyue. Help her a hundred times, and she feels no gratitude. Refuse to help her once, and she’ll hold a grudge forever.

She takes the help and support of others completely for granted, even biting the hand that feeds her and repaying kindness with malice.

People like that are the most venomous. They’re ungrateful, irreverent, and utterly shameless.

No matter how much you give, it’s never enough. No matter how long you help, they’re never grateful...

Gu Jiaojiao glanced up again at Wen Qing, who was being led away by a young man.

The woman who had coveted her man now had her hair in a complete mess, her face swollen like a pig’s head.

Gu Jiaojiao had overheard what Wen Qing said to Song Zijin earlier, so she felt not an ounce of sympathy for her.

"Everyone, please take your seats. Try the dishes from the chef’s big pot," Mr. Wen announced, his face calm as he addressed the guests.

The kind of composure and calm that only comes with age and experience allowed him to face this sudden turn of events...

...without so much as a change in expression, his powerful presence commanding the entire room. 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢

Without any further awkwardness, everyone began to take their seats...
