Chapter 274: Chapter 274: Rabies

If Gu Jiaojiao knew what Sheng Yueyue was thinking, she would have to admire her audacity. ’What kind of drug could Sheng Yueyue possibly have that would work on me?’

But she didn’t know about Sheng Yueyue’s childish plan, nor did she wait around for her to make a move.

Just then, Gu Jiaojiao did indeed run into someone looking for trouble: Wen Qing, who coveted Su Shuochi.

The other day, she had stormed home in a rage to cry to her father. But her dad, who normally doted on her and granted her every wish, hadn’t comforted her. He’d even come close to hitting her.

This caused Wen Qing’s hatred for Gu Jiaojiao to skyrocket. She was the second-most prominent young lady in Qing City, with a whole legion of rich heirs pursuing her.

So, she spent two days gathering a large group of spoiled heirs, and they descended upon Su Shuochi’s construction site in a grand procession of more than a dozen cars.

They couldn’t get in easily. Gao Xiangming’s crew had been getting into brawls since they were kids.

In essence, they were no different from those spoiled heirs, but without the prestigious family backgrounds, they were just considered street thugs.

But when it came to brawling, the thugs’ skills far surpassed those of the spoiled heirs.

You can tell an expert by their first move. The moment they squared up, it was clear which group had the upper hand.

The spoiled heirs could only turn to Wen Qing for instructions. "Miss Wen, we’re no match for those guys."

"It doesn’t matter. We’re not here to fight. Just start yelling for Gu Jiaojiao to come out. I just want to make her see reason and back off."

So the spoiled heirs stood outside and started shouting for Gu Jiaojiao, hurling all sorts of nasty insults.

In their eyes, no one was more beautiful than Wen Qing, and today, she looked particularly stunning.

She was standing right beside them, dressed in a fiery red chiffon dress and a pair of eight-inch high heels.

This spurred the spoiled heirs to yell even louder. "Gu Jiaojiao, get out here!"

Today, Song Zijie had taken the crew out to buy supplies, and Gao Xiangming had gone to the train station to pick someone up.

Su Shuochi had been swamped with work ever since he arrived, and Gu Jiaojiao didn’t want to disturb him, so she was amusing herself by feeding the chickens.

Sheng Shiwu was carrying a load of bricks on a shoulder pole to a wall under construction when he spotted Wen Qing and her entourage arriving to cause a scene.

He scrambled down from the wall and immediately ran to find Gu Jiaojiao. "Jiaojiao, Wen Qing is here with a group of people, looking for trouble! I’ll go tell Su and the others."

"Don’t bother Su Shuochi and the others. You come with me. I’d like to see what gives Wen Qing the audacity to make such a racket."

A moment later, Gu Jiaojiao emerged with Sheng Shiwu. "Who’s causing all this commotion?"

Her voice was clear and pleasant, yet it held an authority that commanded attention. The spoiled heirs turned toward the sound and were struck dumb.

Gu Jiaojiao was wearing a denim overall dress over a white T-shirt, with a pair of simple white sneakers on her feet. It was an outfit that wouldn’t have looked out of place even in a later era.

Denim was a common fabric during this period, but it was mostly used for workwear because of its durability.

You rarely saw it made into an overall dress. But on Gu Jiaojiao, with her sweet features, the outfit was especially eye-catching.

"Gu Jiaojiao, I’m warning you: get away from Brother Su right now. He’s not someone a person like you should be coveting."

Wen Qing hadn’t wanted to be so blunt. After all, as the second-most prominent young lady of Qing City, she had her pride and composure to maintain.

But when she saw that the "outstanding young talents" she had brought along were all gawking at Gu Jiaojiao, practically drooling, her jealousy took over.

Jealousy made her lose all reason, and she blurted out what was on her mind without a second thought.

"Wen Qing, is it? Who gave you the nerve to be so shameless? Trying to steal a man and acting so righteous about it?"

"You... you... you’re just crude!" Even with her thick skin, Wen Qing’s face burned. ’How could she just say "steal a man" out loud like that?!’

"However crude I might be, at least I don’t try to steal other people’s husbands," Gu Jiaojiao said scornfully, rolling her eyes.

"I’ll kill you, you crude, worthless bitch!" Wen Qing was so enraged that she lunged at Gu Jiaojiao.

Seeing Wen Qing charge like a rabid dog, Gu Jiaojiao calmly executed a sharp leg sweep in her direction.

Just as the kick was about to knock Wen Qing over, two of the spoiled heirs rushed forward to catch her, sparing her the humiliation of falling flat on the ground.

Wen Qing swayed for a moment before steadying herself. She roared, her anger uncontrollable, "You bitch! Don’t you know who you’re dealing with?"

"You have no idea who I am, do you? Or who these people with me are? How dare you attack me in public? Have you even considered the consequences?"

"What a joke. Who am I? You think I need to consider the time and place to deal with the likes of you? You’re a nobody who thinks she’s somebody!"

After speaking, Gu Jiaojiao strode forward and, with a swift, practiced motion, slapped Wen Qing across the face.

Wen Qing’s face swelled up instantly, a testament to the force of the blow. Gu Jiaojiao had no patience for people who didn’t know their place.

One of the spoiled heirs, who was particularly infatuated with Wen Qing, stepped forward to strike Gu Jiaojiao, but before he could even raise his hand, she sent him flying with a single kick.

"Do... do you have any idea who that is?" another heir stammered, trembling in fear. "You showed him no mercy at all."

"I don’t care who he is. Anyone who tries to hit me gets hit first. Besides, this one’s clearly got rabies."

"He has rabies? How did we not know?" Two other heirs, who had been about to help the man on the ground, froze in their tracks.

A small smile played on Gu Jiaojiao’s lips as she discreetly palmed a silver needle. "But he really does have rabies," she said, her expression a mask of innocence.

"You’d better stay far away from him. If he bites one of you, you’ll probably get infected, too."

The major families of Qing City were the Xi Family, the Wen Family, and the Xiao Family, followed by the Sheng Family, the Song Family, and the Dong Family, who lived in the main residential compound.

The old Gu Jiaojiao wouldn’t have known this, but the current Gu Jiaojiao certainly did.

She knew the young man on the ground wasn’t from the Xi Family because she had met all their younger members when Old Sir Xi was ill.

That left the Wen Family and the Xiao Family. She wasn’t even afraid of the Xiao Family from the Imperial City; it would be absurd for her to fear a minor branch from Qing City.

And just as Gu Jiaojiao suspected, the man on the ground was indeed Third Young Master Xiao, Xiao Lv.

’This woman actually called me a rabid dog!’ Xiao Lv started to get up, ready to curse her out, but to his surprise, Gu Jiaojiao bent down and gave him a push.

Instantly, Xiao Lv’s entire body began to convulse, and a bark escaped his lips.

"WOOF."

At the first bark, Xiao Lv froze.

Wen Qing froze.

All the spoiled heirs froze.

Before Xiao Lv could even process what had happened, he barked again, unable to control himself. "WOOF! WOOF! WOOF!"

Everyone stared, completely baffled.

’Third Young Master Xiao really has rabies?!’

At this thought, one of the heirs from the Wen family, who had been about to help Xiao Lv, scrambled back several steps, terrified of being bitten.

Seeing this, the other heirs, valuing their own lives, all scurried to a safe distance.

Xiao Lv hadn’t even regained his balance before he tumbled to the ground again, the pain so intense he felt like his soul was about to leave his body.

"I don’t have rabies! I’ve never been bitten by a dog, so how could I have rabies?! Don’t believe her, she’s talking nonsense!"

It was one thing for Wen Qing to back away; ’she was always a high-and-mighty peacock anyway’.

But Xiao Lv never imagined that even the flunkies who were usually so eager to curry favor with the Xiao Family would abandon him without a second thought and flee to a safe distance!
