Chapter 826: Old Promise
The name "Simon" caused Daniel to fall into silence for a few moments. It had been a long time since he had heard that name.
His mind involuntarily went back to the early days of his membership in Everlight Moon, when he had just arrived in the capital and joined the guild to stay safe from Kaelos’s threat.
In those days, among all the members, one person was a bit annoying and overly arrogant.
Simon.
An honorary member who greatly enjoyed showing off, challenging others, and flaunting his annoying personality. Daniel had had conflicts with him back then.
Of course, most of the conflicts were because that fool thought Daniel was in love with Lana and saw him as his romantic rival.
After the war with Kaelos, no one saw him again. Later, it turned out that he wasn’t from this country at all and had only come here for a short time.
In fact, he belonged to one of the great, ancient families of the central continent and had returned to his family after his mission ended.
Daniel looked at Lana.
"Yeah... I remember. He went back to his family after the war, right?" And then he added.
Lana nodded quietly, but contrary to Daniel’s expectation, she didn’t continue immediately. She stared at her teacup on the desk for a few seconds, as if unsure how to bring up the matter.
Daniel frowned slightly.
"What’s the problem?"
"The problem... is with him." Lana sighed briefly.
"Simon liked me from those first days. His becoming an honorary member was partly because of that." Then she continued quietly.
Daniel said nothing. In his view, this matter was completely obvious. That fool went everywhere shouting that he was in love with Lana.
And he had even warned him a few times to stay away from Lana.
"After he returned to the central continent, his family entrusted him with his main responsibilities again. I thought I would be lucky enough not to have to deal with him anymore."
"Unfortunately, I was wrong. A few weeks ago... I received an official letter from his family." She looked away from Daniel and fixed her gaze on the window behind her.
"It was a marriage proposal."
A few moments of silence reigned in the room.
The quiet sound of the wind could be heard through the tall windows of the seventh floor, and the evening light had fallen on the white towers of Everlight Moon.
"They said that if this marriage happens, they will use their family’s influence and power to solidify our guild’s position in our region and even in the central continent." Lana continued.
"The transfer of the Goblin guild’s foreign assets, international contracts, support for the tournament team, and even the establishment of an official guild branch in the central continent."
Daniel asked only one question, without any change in his expression.
"Well? Did you refuse?"
"Yes." Lana answered almost without hesitation.
"I’m not thinking about marriage at all right now, and honestly... I’m not interested in him."
Daniel shook his head slightly.
"I don’t think someone like him would cause trouble over this matter, but he was a bit too in love with you." Overall, this proposal wasn’t too bad.
But that didn’t mean he only thought about the guild’s benefits and completely ignored Lana’s opinion. Besides, this was a matter Lana herself had to decide on.
And as long as he was around, why did they need others to expand the Goblin guild to the central continent?
But Lana gave a faint, bitter smile.
"I hope so too. But before I refused... he said something."
Daniel’s gaze became a bit more serious.
"He said, ’If your country’s team reaches the global tournament... I hope nothing bad happens to them there.’"
For the first time since the start of the meeting, Daniel’s eyebrows furrowed. The chance of their country’s team advancing to the global tournament was very high.
Naya was considered by far the strongest participant of the new generation, precisely because he was going to help her train. And if Alice and Tiana also participated in the tournament, almost no team in the region would be able to stop them.
The image of his two sisters passed through his mind.
With them, their country’s team’s advancement to the global tournament was guaranteed, especially after he gave them the two gifts he had for them.
"I’m not worried about myself. But if my sister... or the other team members get bothered there..." Lana continued in a quiet voice.
She was silent for a few moments and then looked directly into Daniel’s eyes.
"My only hope is that you’ll look after them there."
Daniel said nothing for a few seconds. Then he looked out the window at the city, a city that was once his entire world but now seemed far too small.
"I’ll probably go to the central continent within a month. So if our team makes it to the global tournament... I’ll keep an eye on them."
That one sentence was enough. Lana smiled quietly, but that smile quickly faded.
"So my father’s words were true. You really are planning to leave this country."
Daniel stared into the distance.
"I have nothing left to do here. But there, I have many unfinished tasks."
He still hadn’t forgotten his conversations with Diana and that senior sister. There were issues related to his father that he needed to go to the central continent to resolve.
Not to mention the bastards responsible for his father’s fall also needed to be punished, and he would not let them go. He also had plans to expand the Eternity religion there.
"I don’t know if this guild will survive without you." Lana said quietly.
"It survived before me, and it will survive after me." Daniel laughed and added.
But Lana said nothing, because she knew better than anyone what pillar Everlight Moon stood on today.
Daniel continued.
"I’m not going to disappear. Whenever you need me, call me. Besides, a few of my Fallen will stay here."
"If something happens, they’ll protect the guild and also inform me." It wasn’t that he was going to leave the entire guild without security.
This guild would still be his greatest help in spreading the Eternity religion in the country and even the entire region.
Lana nodded slowly.
"You’ve already done more than enough for the guild. I really don’t know how to thank you."
"There’s no need. You’ve helped me a lot too." Daniel answered quietly.
"Anyway, I don’t think Simon is the kind of person to take action over this matter. But if he really wants to cause trouble for Naya or the rest of the team..."
His gaze turned cold for a moment.
"I’ll deal with him myself."
A few moments of silence passed between them, and then Daniel rose from his seat and straightened his clothes.
"If there’s nothing else, I have to go. There are others I want to see before I leave."
But just as he was about to turn, Lana’s voice rose again.
"There’s one more thing."
Daniel stopped.
"This one isn’t about the guild. It’s about you."
"What?" He turned back and fixed his gaze on Lana.
"Do you remember Serys?"
"The girl from the Central Magic Tower?" Daniel’s eyes narrowed slightly. A faint smile settled on his face.
"Of course I remember. In fact... we still have some unfinished business."
Lana nodded.
"She contacted me because she couldn’t reach you. She told me to ask you... if you still remember your promise, and if the time has come to act on it."
The room fell into silence again. In Daniel’s mind, all his memories related to that girl and the Central Magic Tower repeated.
And the piece of the fallen god’s heart that was in that tower’s possession. It seemed the time had come to obtain that heart fragment.
"I remember my promise. I’ll contact her myself. And thank you for letting me know." Then he said quietly.
A few minutes later, after a brief farewell, he left Lana’s office, walked down the long hallways of the seventh floor, and exited the main guild building.
The evening light had fallen on the white towers of Everlight Moon, and the mana crystals shone like small stars in the walls.
Daniel paused for a moment, then took his phone out of his pocket. He hesitated over one of the contacts for a few seconds.
Joe.
His best friend. Since the James incident and the Goblin guild war, he hadn’t had a chance to see him.
His finger moved across the screen.
"I’m back. Do you have time to meet tonight?"
The message was sent, but almost immediately, the phone in his hand began to vibrate.
Daniel glanced at the screen. Only one name could be seen on the screen.
Mom.
His mother was calling.
