Chapter 505: Chapter 474: Race Against Life and Death (Part 4)
The dawn is just breaking, but the thick fog outside Chittagong has not completely dissipated. The air is thick with the acrid scent of smoke mixed with damp earth.
The Free Army has not given up despite last night’s intimidation.
At six in the morning, several heavily modified armored pickups and a dozen armed men with AK-47s appeared again on a dirt hillside five hundred meters outside the medical point.
They did not recklessly approach but lurked at the edges like hyenas, probing and testing, with the dark gun barrels occasionally pointing towards the direction of the medical point deliberately or unintentionally.
"These bastards are testing our limits."
Having almost not slept all night, Ge Zhengxiang put down the binoculars, his eyes bloodshot and his face stern.
He quickly signaled, and the special forces on the perimeter immediately adjusted their shooting directions. The snipers quietly took their positions, fixing their crosshairs firmly onto the leader of the opposition.
"We can’t keep staying defensive. Our time is running out."
Gu Yu took off his bloody surgical attire and replaced it with a clean white coat, pinning the Red Cross emblem and medical team badge prominently on his chest.
"Doctor Gu, what are you doing?"
Ge Zhengxiang grabbed him, "Bullets out there don’t have eyes!"
"They’re here for money and silence, not for a pitched battle. If we remain at a stalemate, once their main forces free up, we’ll really be stuck."
Gu Yu’s gaze was firm, "Zhengxiang, cover me, I’m going to talk to them."
Ge Zhengxiang gritted his teeth, knowing Gu Yu was right.
He immediately selected two of the best assault troopers, fully armed, to guard Gu Yu’s side. The group slowly stepped out of the sandbag defense line of the medical point, reaching the edge of the warning line.
Gu Yu picked up a megaphone, took a deep breath, and his clear and steady voice echoed across the desolate wilderness: "Friends on the other side, I am Gu Yu, a doctor of the Huaxia Medical Team. We come with goodwill and hope to leave in peace."
On the hillside, a Free Army leader with a scar on his face and wearing camouflage raised his binoculars.
He was clearly unprepared for the doctor on the other side to dare to stand up and shout, hesitated slightly, then picked up a portable loudspeaker and yelled in heavily accented English: "Huaxia people! Hand over the supplies Peron hid here and the old man Aiyuan! Otherwise, we will level this place!"
"There are no armed supplies here, only life-saving medicines and severely injured refugees!"
Gu Yu’s voice was firm yet penetrating, "We are an international humanitarian medical team, protected by international law and the Geneva Convention. Our principle is neutrality; we only provide treatment and do not engage in factional conflicts. Whether you are the Free Army or government forces, in our eyes, there are only the wounded."
The leader sneered, just about to speak with threats when Gu Yu shifted his tone, his speech becoming intriguingly icy and profound:
"Friend, I know what you’re looking for. But do you really think that taking back those clearance records of the Black Stone Group from the Port Authority will allow you to rest easy?"
Upon hearing this, the leader on the hillside turned pale, put down the binoculars abruptly, and stared fiercely at Gu Yu in the distance.
Gu Yu continued to apply pressure, his words hitting directly at their hearts: "Your conflict with the Pelon’s influence has already drawn international attention. If you rob the aid center’s supplies today, or harm our Huaxia medical personnel, do you guess who the warships anchored in the Bay of Bengal and the UN peacekeeping forces will target tomorrow?"
"For the sake of a few boxes of medicine, inviting a precise strike from a major country’s military, does your leader think this trade is worth it?"
This information threat accurately struck the soft spot of the Free Army.
Despite their rampant actions, fundamentally they’re local forces, most afraid of drawing combined strikes from international society.
Moreover, since the Huaxia doctor already knows the secrets between Black Stone and them, those smuggling evidences that Aiyuan, that old fellow holds, have surely already been handed over by Huaxia’s military to international organizations.
The cooperation with Black Stone surely won’t happen in the future.
If they act against the aid center at this moment... then they’d likely be in dire straits themselves.
While the leader was perplexed, hesitating in making a decision, Gu Yu tossed out the final bargaining chip:
"Let’s both take a step back. Our medical team must withdraw safely, and you can’t touch the core equipment and personnel. But as humanitarian aid, we will leave three boxes of basic medicine including the broad-spectrum antibiotics you urgently need, painkillers, and emergency bandages."
"These supplies will be handed over for your unified distribution, intended for treating your wounded. This is the utmost sincerity we can offer."
"Bang! Bang bang——!"
Just then, a deafening series of explosions suddenly erupted from afar, followed by the booming of intensive mortar fire.
Clearly, the full-scale conflict between government troops and Free Army main forces has escalated.
The pressure on the front line suddenly surged, and orders would likely be relayed here soon.
The leader glanced back at the battlefield lit with flames and then at the well-prepared and fierce Huaxia special forces, ultimately gritted his teeth and picked up the loudspeaker, roaring: "Huaxia people! You win this time! Leave the medicine, take your people, and get going!"
"Follow your original planned route to evacuate, don’t veer towards the government forces! If I discover any tricks, I swear I’ll hunt you down to the beach!"
"Deal."
Gu Yu put down the megaphone, his shirt was already soaked with cold sweat, but his spine remained perfectly straight.
In front of outsiders, one cannot weaken Huaxia’s dignity!
The crisis was temporarily averted, and the medical team immediately entered the final sprint stage.
At ten in the morning, the evacuation window period was down to its last four hours.
Luo KaiXuan rushed into the command tent, handing the satellite phone to Gu Yu: "Gu Yu, encrypted communication from Captain Yang!"
"Gu Yu, listen carefully."
Captain Yang’s voice exuded a decisive and swift tone, "The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has urgently coordinated with the Bangladesh military through high-level channels."
"They’ve agreed to open a limited-time safe passage for you between one and two this afternoon!"
"Bangladesh Military will dispatch two BTR-80 armored personnel carriers and a platoon of guards to meet you at the road junction number five on the south side of the refugee camp."
"The armored convoy will escort you straight to the temporary dock on the shoreline, after which we’ll send two high-speed hovercraft to transfer you back to the ship."
Captain Yang paused, his tone becoming incredibly solemn: "Remember, this is the last evacuation opportunity! The safe passage is open only for one hour, once missed, the military cannot guarantee your safety. Depart at one on the dot!"
"Understood! Mission guaranteed!"
Gu Yu hung up the phone, turned to face the medical team members inside the tent busy with final packing tasks, and issued orders loudly.
"Xinyue, verify the evacuation list! Captain Ge, prepare for evacuation at one this afternoon!"
An exhilarating and heart-pounding battlefield evacuation officially entered its countdown.
