Chapter 122: Bound Servant
"I know you don’t trust me, but I am bound to you now, and I can’t harm you. If I do, I will die..."
Lian’s eyes widened in surprise. The little girl’s words hung in the air like a heavy mist, filling the dimly lit control room with an almost surreal tension. He stared at her, his blue void eyes narrowing as he tried to process what she had just said. The dead man still sat motionless in the captain’s chair behind her, the ancient blade buried in his chest like a macabre throne. The air smelled of dust, old metal, and the faint ozone of long-dormant systems slowly waking up.
“You will die?” Lian asked, his voice low and guarded. “What do you mean? I don’t understand.”
The girl tilted her head slightly, her silver-white hair shifting like silk under the faint emergency lights. Her large violet eyes blinked once, innocent and patient, as if explaining something obvious to a child.
“Yes, I will die,” she answered softly, her voice gentle and clear, like a real little girl’s. “I am now bound to you. So you are my Master.”
Lian opened his mouth, but no words came out at first. The situation felt absurd — standing in the ruined control room of an ancient buried spaceship, facing what looked like an eight-year-old girl who claimed she would die if she harmed him. He glanced at Elara, who had her thunder blade half-raised, her expression a mix of shock and deep suspicion.
Elara stepped forward, her blade still pointed at the girl. “How are you still alive? Explain that first.”
The girl turned her gaze to Elara, studying her alloy limbs and human features with quiet curiosity. “I am a little bit like you,” she said, “but more advanced. I am not human. I was created long ago using ancient technology — a fusion of precursor bio-engineering and lost progenitor knowledge. My body looks human, but it is synthetic. My core is an advanced AI matrix designed to serve and protect. I know many things... about the galaxy, about cultivation, about forgotten histories and technologies that even the great powers of today have lost. I am... a little too advanced for this era.”
Lian finally found his voice. “What’s your name?”
The girl smiled faintly, a small, beautiful expression that made her look even more innocent. “My name is Lirien.”
Lian’s mind was racing. He had stepped onto this strange ship looking for weapons, resources, anything that could help him grow stronger. Instead, he had found a dead warrior — clearly a powerful one, given how well his body had been preserved for a thousand years. He had paid his respects, and a bracelet had flown to his hand. Now this... an ancient android, or whatever she was, ready to serve and even die for him. She claimed she knew a lot of things. She might be lying, but what if she wasn’t? He would find out soon enough. For now, he decided to test her.
If she is telling the truth... isn’t this way better? he thought. A powerful servant who knows things I don’t. This could accelerate everything.
He looked at her again. “Can you get this ship to work?”
Lirien nodded without hesitation. “Yes, Master.”
She started moving her little legs forward, taking small, careful steps toward them. Both Lian and Elara instinctively moved backward, weapons raised and ready. Lirien stopped immediately when she sensed their tension, standing still like an obedient doll.
She reached the captain’s chair where her former master sat. She gave a small, respectful bow to the dead man, her silver hair falling forward like a curtain. Lian studied her face closely — the delicate features, the innocent violet eyes, the way she moved with childlike grace. It was hard to believe she wasn’t real.
Lian lowered his black blade slowly, then stored it back in his ring. He turned to Elara and gently touched her extended arm, the one holding her thunder blade ready to strike.
“It’s okay,” he said quietly.
Elara looked at him in surprise. This was unlike Lian. He was the one who didn’t trust easily, who questioned everything. Yet here he was, lowering his guard. She wondered if this was really the same person she had been traveling with. Since they had stepped onto this ship, he had shown many strange sides. Still, she trusted his judgment. She slowly lowered her blade and stored it away.
Lirien stood beside the chair, her small form looking tiny next to the imposing dead man. There was a crystal ball on a console nearby, but it was dark and lifeless, like it had been drained of all energy.
