Chapter 120: Welcome, Master
Lian didn’t think much about it at first.
A dead man’s bracelet floating toward him in a ruined control room should have raised every alarm in his mind, but after everything that had happened — the split planet, the black liquid, the destroyed city — his sense of normal had shifted. He simply reached out and let the bracelet settle into his palm. It was surprisingly light, made of dark metal with faint, glowing runes that pulsed softly like a heartbeat. He turned it over once, wondering what it could be. A storage bracelet? Something important to the dead man? A trap? Many thoughts flashed through his head, but none of them mattered enough to stop him.
He slipped it onto his wrist.
The moment the bracelet made contact with his skin, it came alive.
It glowed bright, much brighter than before, the runes igniting with a soft white light that spread across the entire band. The runes began to move, sliding and rearranging themselves like pieces of a complex puzzle solving itself. The motion was hypnotic, the symbols shifting positions with precise, mechanical grace. Elara, who had been standing a short distance away, turned to watch, her blue cyber eyes widening in surprise.
After about thirty seconds, the runes settled into a final pattern. In the center of the bracelet, a small white bead materialized, floating freely above the band without any visible support. It orbited slowly around the bracelet, smooth and perfect, emitting a gentle, pure light.
The bead then projected a blue holographic scan.
The light swept over the dead man in the captain’s chair first, analyzing the body in silence. Then it turned its attention to Lian. The scan moved up and down his form, bathing him in soft blue light. Lian stared at it with intense focus, not moving, not breathing. The entire control room felt charged with anticipation.
The scan completed.
A calm, mechanical voice spoke from the bracelet, clear and resonant:
“WELCOME, MASTER.”
Lian’s head snapped toward the sound, but Elara reacted faster. She jumped to his side in an instant, her thunder blade already drawn, eyes filled with fear and worry. She had witnessed the bracelet’s activation, the moving runes, the floating bead, and now the voice. Her instincts screamed danger. Whatever this was, it was stronger than her. It could kill her where she stood if it chose to. She positioned herself protectively beside Lian, blade raised and ready.
Lian drew his black blade as well, holding it in a defensive grip. His heart pounded, but his expression remained cold and alert. He couldn’t see the figure clearly at first — the light from the crystal orb didn’t reach the doorway properly. All he could make out was a silhouette: small, child-like in height and shape, standing motionless at the entrance of the control room.
He couldn’t sense its strength with his perception. That alone was alarming.
“Hey, little girl,” Lian called out, voice steady but cautious. “What are you doing here?”
No answer.
The figure remained completely still.
“Little girl... what are you?”
Still nothing.
Lian could feel it wasn’t human. It felt more like Elara — artificial, but without any remaining human parts. Purely mechanical or something beyond. He dropped the glowing crystal orb onto the ground and rolled it gently toward the figure. The orb rolled across the floor, stopping at the child-like silhouette’s feet. The light shifted, illuminating her clearly.
Her face came into view.
