Chapter 1541: Chapter 879: Caw Caw, All Gone

Soon.

Jackals and Ant quickly packed up the drones, grabbed their guns, and rushed down.

Third Uncle explained the situation to them and then began assigning tasks.

Lao Yi and another repair person were watching Zhang Rufen’s group from this side.

For safety, they took out ropes from the helicopter and tied them all up, sealing their mouths to ensure that when the others arrived, Zhang Rufen and his group wouldn’t cause trouble.

If any commotion occurred, their ambush would certainly be affected.

There weren’t many people, so other than Lao Yi and another person guarding Zhang Rufen’s group, Li Yu requested Luo and Xiao Ding to remain on the rooftop and recon the surroundings.

Should the group be cautious, not driving on the cement road and instead disembarking halfway through the forest, Luo and his partner could still spot them in time.

Third Uncle was astonished at Li Yu’s suggestion, and he had to admit that Li Yu was incredibly meticulous.

Excluding the four staying behind, the remaining fourteen hid on both sides of the cement road.

Jackals and his team brought back several rocket launchers and machine guns, which they were ready to use this time.

Time was tight, a mere ten kilometers would take no more than twenty minutes.

Li Yu had to act swiftly; everyone was in a rush, carrying their weapons to reach the slopes beside the cement road.

It was summertime, and the recent typhoon brought heavy rain, nourishing the vegetation in the mountains and forests, making them lush. They lay within the tall grass on both sides of the cement road.

Jackals, Ant, Old Qin, and Third Uncle spread out into the four corners, forming a rectangular encirclement around the road.

Li Yu and the others scattered along the roadside.

The vegetation was dense, with grass reaching thigh-high, making it nearly impossible to see the prone figures from the outside.

At the bottom of the slope, Jackals kept a close watch on the road to detect the group’s arrival and quickly alert the others.

The drones weren’t in use, too close to the target, as flying them would easily expose their position.

Everyone had vast battle experience, quickly settling into the ambush, staying motionless except for subtle adjustments to gun positions and placing grenades and other tactical gear in optimal spots.

Barely three minutes after they were ready.

The rumble of car engines was heard.

"They’re here!" Jackals whispered to everyone via walkie-talkie upon hearing the roar of engines.

Li Yu peered through the grass, eyes fixed on the road below.

.....

GaGa and his team drove their vehicles slowly up to the foot of the mountain.

"Ga Bro, it should be here. There’s a helicopter rescue base up there," said a man with triangle-shaped eyes sitting beside GaGa.

He gazed at the fallen sign at the foot of the mountain, eyes glinting.

Then he added, "Ga Bro, if there’s a helicopter up there, we’d hit the jackpot. If we bring it back to Director Gao, she’d surely be thrilled."

GaGa scoffed, and replied, "Can you fly a helicopter?"

"Uh... no."

GaGa stopped responding to him, turning instead to the driver, "Drive on, hurry up, before they’re all gone when we arrive."

They had been progressing very smoothly lately, encountering almost no resistance.

Often, battles were completely one-sided.

Over time, they had developed a disdain for the locals and felt they could sweep through them effortlessly.

They even thought they could push all the way to the East.

Each successive victory instilled them with more confidence and fostered complacency.

In their eyes, these people were sheep, designated prey.

While they saw themselves as the Hunters, hunting their target.

They relished the thrill of hunting prey.

The driver heeded GaGa’s words, immediately accelerating the vehicle up the mountain slope.

Subsequent vehicles followed closely.

The last vehicle was filled with survivors.

These survivors were the spoils from their recent extermination of a small faction. Director Gao regularly sent someone to collect acquired resources every few days.

These "resources" included food, people, and other usable items.

The group of survivors in this vehicle was scheduled for transport back tomorrow.

To them, these survivors were more than humans; to them, they were food.

In the doomsday era, they lost their moral compass, instead feeling it was a utopia.

Absent moral boundaries and freed from human constraints, they felt immensely free and passionate.

Rumble!

Jackals spotted the license plate on the lead vehicle and immediately knew these were foreign invaders.

GaGa’s crew was incredibly brash, their windows down as they stood in their pickup truck, chatting and laughing, as if on a leisurely outing.

On average, their height and weight exceeded Southeast Asians, their frames smaller than the locals.

Southeast Asians had deeper set eyes, with flat, wide noses.

Through their faces, Li Yu and the others could clearly tell they were Southeast Asians.

Coupled with the text on the license plate, Li Yu needed no additional confirmation; he was certain these weren’t locals.

Observing their reckless behavior, those hidden in the grass felt an intense fury in their hearts.
