Chapter 1496: Chapter 861: Zombie Migration
At night, a gust of wind swept through the silent mountain forest.
It was a strong wind.
However, the moon was bright and stars sparse, and it seemed unlikely to rain.
Inside the underground military base, lights were bright and people were coming and going.
Following Li Yu’s orders, Old Lv was leading a team to load the munitions from these caves into trucks, so they could return to the Big Camphor Tree Base first thing in the morning.
Otherwise, they’d spend time sorting and loading tomorrow, possibly delaying their return to Big Camphor Tree Base.
Because of limited space inside the cave, it looked rather chaotic for the time being.
The forklift they brought kept shuttling back and forth, lifting heavy crates and placing them onto heavy trucks.
The sound of the vehicles and machinery in the cave was quite loud, but there was no other option; moving by hand would take an eternity.
Moreover, without machinery, four or five people couldn’t lift the heavy cannons onto the trucks.
To prevent the loud cave noises from spreading and attracting zombies, Li Yu instructed Luo and the others to shut the underground door. Although there was still a large hole cut out by Li Yu and his team, the noise was significantly reduced.
Li Yu and Yang Tianlong stood atop the entrance of the military base, observing the surroundings.
Besides them, Luo led four to five others dispersed around, keeping watch.
The night mountain breeze was somewhat refreshing.
Li Yu slowly sat down, settling on the concrete block at the cave’s water source.
The cigarette in his hand glowed intermittently, with the smoke swirling away with the wind.
The drone continued to circle in the sky, Luo standing at the cave entrance operating it.
Taking lessons from last night’s experience, if zombies irradiated by nuclear radiation appeared, the drone would spot them early from the sky.
The wind rustled the trees, pine needles steadily falling.
They were located north of Shaosh City, approximately twenty to thirty kilometers from Shaosh City.
Ten kilometers to the right, a river ran downstream, traversing Shaosh City.
Perhaps over the last couple of days, the surrounding zombies were drawn over and subsequently eliminated, so even at 10 PM, no zombie traces were visible.
Inside the military base cave, the hustle and bustle continued.
Since Old Lv and his team arrived at 6 PM, they started transporting munitions onto vehicles, taking only brief breaks to eat and rest.
After three to four hours of continuous work, they managed to load more than half of the munitions, estimating completion by midnight.
Outside the cave, a square beam of light cast from the cut-out door, adding some illumination outside the cave.
A massive helicopter quietly rested beside.
Li Yu didn’t rest; though no zombies appearing was good news, he inexplicably felt irritable.
There was an indescribable unease, typically preceding something unfavorable based on past experiences.
Time ticked away.
The watch on his wrist soon showed 11 PM.
Yang Tianlong said to Li Yu: "Brother Yu, why don’t you go rest? I am here with Luo and the others; you’d be better off getting some sleep."
Li Yu waved his hand, offering no explanation.
As night deepened, his ominous feeling intensified. He circled the barbed wire again but still didn’t find zombie traces.
"Maybe I’m overthinking?" Li Yu looked at the watch’s hands, pointing to 11:30 PM.
Suddenly.
Below the cave, Luo spotted what seemed like a fiery dragon of light dots from the drone, coming from Shaosh City’s northern ring expressway southbound.
The cement road outside the small hill could connect to Shaosh City’s northern ring expressway from the right.
They didn’t come from Gan City by this expressway but took the left of the cement road, then twisted around several turns to G6011 Road.
"Director Li, there’s something happening!" Luo urgently contacted Li Yu.
Li Yu heard Luo’s voice, immediately running to the cave entrance.
"What’s going on?" Li Yu, bearing a rifle, inquired while running over.
"Director Li, these, light dots, should be zombies..." Luo hesitantly said, flying the drone in that direction simultaneously.
Li Yu leaned closer to the drone’s screen.
Staring at the drone screen’s image, appearing distant.
Between two dark mountains, along the highway, a zombie tide spanning over two kilometers was marching their way.
Moreover, behind the distant two large mountains, a bend appeared, beyond which, the lights grew even brighter.
This indicated that the zombies irradiated by nuclear radiation they saw were merely the tip of the iceberg!
Li Yu’s heart skipped a beat seeing this.
He promptly said, "Raise the, raise the drone!"
His tone was anxious.
Luo gulped, quickly operating the drone to fly higher.
One hundred meters, two hundred meters, three hundred meters.
Before Doomsday, drones had height limitations, but it didn’t mean drones couldn’t ascend beyond a kilometer.
As the helicopter ascended, the view broadened considerably.
However, causing them disquiet was the expanding range of brightness, seemingly endless.
"Higher!" urged Li Yu.
