Chapter 358: Chapter 250: Secret Letter

"I don’t want to talk about this anymore. I’m sorry!"

Paige Summers’s single sentence cut off all the questions Sean Raines hadn’t yet asked. He sighed and left, unable to stop himself from thinking, ’Everything... is really happening all at once.’ He had guessed she and Marcus Monroe would have their conflicts, but he never thought it would get this serious. And to make matters worse, something had happened to the Lowell Family at this exact moment!

Without the connection to Marcus Monroe, many things would probably become difficult.

After all, Jovitas didn’t just have information; it had a vast network of connections.

And Paige was just... She handled things without leaving any room for compromise.

’Why did they have to break up?!’

’If she had just been a little softer, a little more patient, wouldn’t she have that man wrapped around her little finger?!’

But as he thought of this, he suddenly smiled and shook his head.

’If Paige Summers were that kind of woman, would he still be helping her like this? Probably... he would have kicked her out of his circle of friends long ago!’

After he left, Paige Summers slowly began to calm down.

Holding the file, she studied it for a long time. What was written in it was just a lead. To find out who was truly targeting the Lowell Family, she would have to keep investigating.

She took a pen and spent some time drawing out various relationship diagrams. In the end, she kept only the simplest one and burned the rest.

The next morning, she tucked the paper away, slipped out of the house, and went to find Quentin Sutton.

She was in no mood for small talk, directly handing him the paper. "I need your help. These few families—help me investigate their backgrounds. Who they’re close to, who their enemies are... the more detailed, the better."

Quentin Sutton was as scruffy as ever. He pursed his lips. "Looks like you know everything..."

Paige Summers gave him a faint, unreadable smile. "Are you referring to your little clandestine activities after the assassins were dealt with?"

A hint of embarrassment appeared on Quentin Sutton’s face.

The people who had been trying to assassinate him and Shawn Monroe had vanished not long after Sheldon Reid left Central City, something he had naturally noticed. Thinking he ought to do something, he continued to stay indoors during the day but started becoming active at night. Over this period, he had managed to build up a personal network.

As a doctor, and one who could concoct medicine at that, he had his own advantages.

But he never expected Paige Summers to know everything!

And yet, he couldn’t say a word in protest.

Because the credits and Crystal Cores he’d been using for his activities had all been "sponsored" by her!

At that thought, he jerked his head up and stared at her in disbelief. "Wait! This... you didn’t plan for all this, did you?!"

Paige Summers watched him with a noncommittal expression, her dark eyes as deep and unreadable as a placid lake.

Quentin Sutton immediately deflated. He quickly scanned the three family names on the list and sighed. "I get it. I’ll have my people look into it, but I can’t guarantee how much they’ll find. You should know, I haven’t been here long enough. My roots don’t run deep."

Paige Summers nodded. "Just do your best. If you have any problems with funding, you can contact me."

"Okay."

After they parted ways, a peculiar expression finally appeared on Paige Summers’s face.

’Acting all profound isn’t something I do often. I didn’t expect a pleasant surprise the one time I tried it. I originally only knew the bare surface of the matter, but thanks to Quentin Sutton’s interpretation, I’ve suddenly become omniscient.’

’Hmm, this is... pretty good!’

She was about to head back when she happened to get a call from Boss Archer. After hearing what he had to say, she turned around and headed straight for the team’s headquarters.

「In the living room of the Bloodfall Hunters’ headquarters.」

Jensen Archer handed her a letter, saying, "This was found this morning. Someone slipped it under the door."

The crumpled envelope was addressed: "For Paige Summers’s Eyes Only."

Paige Summers tested the seal. It was extremely firm; the only way to open it was to tear it.

Her expression grew subtly solemn.

She tore open the letter. Inside was just a small slip of paper that read, "6 PM, First Time Breakfast restaurant."

Jensen Archer asked worriedly, "Is everything alright?"

Paige Summers shook her head. "You can go back to your work. I’m just going to sit here for a bit."

He understood she wanted to be alone and left with a nod.

Paige Summers sat on the sofa, her brow furrowed in deep thought.

She examined the note and envelope over and over again. Finally, she discovered something unusual inside the envelope, on the seam where the two edges were glued together. Running her finger over the faint protrusion, she instantly understood.

The pattern was clearly the ’Wan’ character from Wendy Lowell’s name!

’It’s a letter from her!’

’But... didn’t she go to that secret location of the Mercer Family?!’

’How could...’

It wasn’t that Paige didn’t want to see her, but Blake Morrison’s meaning had been clear. It was a "secret location," and he clearly had no intention of telling Paige where it was. His subtext was that even the members of the Lowell Family who had already gone in would not be allowed to re-enter if they came out.

Though she didn’t understand the reason, she could more or less appreciate it.

It concerned the family’s territory. Moving that many people over was likely already pushing their limits. If they also allowed free entry and exit, it would be far too easy for ill-intentioned people to discover the location.

That’s why she had never asked from the very beginning.

She trusted him.

But this letter today had given her some doubts.

It wasn’t that she didn’t trust Blake Morrison, but the Mercer Family wasn’t just Blake Morrison. Besides, he was only the Clan Leader’s younger brother... Could it be that something had already gone wrong at the secret location?!

After burning the envelope and the letter, grinding them into ash, Paige Summers had already made her decision.

She could wait one day.

Returning to her residence from the headquarters, she sat by Ben’s bed, took off her coat, and spread her Artifact Making tools all over the floor. Rubbing the cool metal block in her hand, she quickly calmed down.

When there were no clues, she couldn’t afford to be impatient. And now that more and more clues were presenting themselves, she had even more reason not to be.

Any excessive emotion could easily cloud her judgment, and what she needed was precisely to be calm.

Her mind began to recall the time Irving Thorne had ordered a custom weapon.

Her memory was indeed excellent. Even after so long, she quickly sketched out the silhouette of the weapon she had only seen once. Laying it out before her, she realized that this thing with its long handle was less a Flying Knife and more a scalpel!

’To use something like this as a weapon... that man truly lives up to his reputation as someone with a unique superpower.’

She spent the better part of the day making two of them.

If she wasn’t being overly critical, they were quite good. The blades were sharp enough to dissect any flesh and blood.

She placed them in a brocade box and called Sean Raines to come pick them up.

She understood the principle of reciprocity.

She didn’t necessarily have to accept his attempts to win her over, but when it was time to build a good relationship, she wouldn’t ignore it.

After she finished, it was almost time.

She got ready and dressed, then reached out to squeeze Ben’s hand. Looking at his healthy complexion, but his still-closed eyes, she whispered, "At least... you’re still here..."

When one is lonely, when one faces all sorts of dangers, it is easy to become vulnerable.

Paige Summers knew she was just an ordinary person. It was only natural to have these emotions, but she had to fight not to be overcome by them!

A person’s greatest enemy is always themselves, not others.
