Chapter 346: Chapter 240: Currying Favor

Nora Lowell unleashed her superpower in a fit of rage.

Under normal circumstances, an attack made in such a state would undoubtedly represent a significant portion of her true power.

And that was exactly what Paige Summers wanted.

Of course, that wasn’t to say she didn’t also enjoy seeing Nora Lowell miserable.

She had guessed that after Nora mutated into a Zombie, her superpower would have changed as well. A Thunder Ability from the Natural Superpower System was one of the deadliest attacks against ordinary Zombies—just as creatures of darkness and decay always feared the light. Therefore, it was impossible for her superpower to have remained the same.

And as it turned out, she had guessed right.

Her Thunder Ability had indeed mutated. Although the method of attack was the same, the lightning’s color had changed, and its power... was even greater!

Paige Summers glanced at the crater and noticed something.

Although the attack had also left a large crater, she keenly sensed that Nora Lowell’s superpower was fundamentally different from that of the Zombie Leader they had fought at The Foundry.

The Zombie Leader had used a Spatial Black Hole. Nora’s ability, however... it was less a Thunder Ability and more like something wearing the shell of one. The attack’s true nature had become corrosive.

’Corrosion... huh...’

Paige Summers subconsciously felt that this would be easier to deal with than a Space Ability.

Not right now, of course.

Nora Lowell didn’t seem intent on settling their grudge right away. After that one strike, she appeared to have calmed down and retreated to her original position. Having mutated into a Zombie, it was impossible for her to form a sneer, as her facial muscles were completely rigid. So, she could only express her contempt with words. "You don’t need to be in such a hurry to die! I won’t let you die so easily. Just like... that one hanging outside. All of you people, every single one, will experience what it means to wish for death!"

Paige Summers’s lips curled. The test was over, and she couldn’t be bothered to engage in a war of words. Who lived and who died wasn’t up to Nora! But as she thought about it, a very subtle expression crept onto her face. She looked at Nora Lowell as if to say, ’...Wishing for death? Aren’t you the one experiencing that right now?’

Nora Lowell silently gnashed her teeth and turned her gaze to Marcus Monroe, staring at him intently for a long moment.

After becoming a Zombie, her sense of smell had sharpened dramatically, but her vision had deteriorated significantly. Now, whether hunting or fighting, she relied mostly on her sense of smell, like an animal. Even from this distance, she couldn’t see him very clearly. But she just knew. She knew his face held no disgust, no fear. He was as calm as if she were still the radiant woman she used to be.

An unusually tempting scent wafted to her nose, making her lose focus. ’So hungry. A High-level Superpower User... truly is different... The scent is more intoxicating than anything before!’

As these thoughts tumbled through her mind, a hungry glint entered her eyes. But ultimately, she was different from what she considered the lower-class Zombies.

She could control her desires.

"As for you, Marcus Monroe..." It had been a long time since she’d said that name, but as it rolled off her tongue, it still brought a sense of satisfaction. Because this man was finally, *finally* about to be hers! "How about we cooperate?"

Marcus Monroe raised an eyebrow. He paused for a moment before saying, "Cooperate? I’m listening."

When he said that, both Paige Summers and Nora Lowell understood he was just trying to get more information out of her.

But Nora Lowell was quite confident that her proposal could sway any man! But, before that, there were still some things to be done.

"Follow me. I have something to show you."

Hearing this, Marcus Monroe’s interest was piqued. He took Paige Summers’s hand and walked over.

Nora Lowell wasn’t angry. She sneered inwardly and walked ahead to lead the way.

Usually, every base had secret tunnels.

Norgate was no exception.

Nora Lowell brazenly led them to a tunnel entrance located within The Citadel, right in the middle of the ruins.

Paige Summers secretly raised her guard even higher.

It would be all too easy for something to happen in the tunnel.

"Do you dare come down?" Nora Lowell’s eyes were now only for Marcus Monroe; Paige Summers no longer existed in her sight.

Marcus Monroe retorted, "Why wouldn’t I?"

"Then come!"

Nora Lowell went down first, with Marcus Monroe following and Paige Summers bringing up the rear.

At that moment, Marcus Monroe hesitated for an instant about the positioning. The last person in line was not in a very safe spot. But he quickly realized the tunnel wasn’t wide enough for two people to walk side by side. A moment later, he decided it was better not to let Paige Summers follow right behind Nora Lowell. In his eyes, that was even more dangerous!

Walking at the very front, Nora Lowell seemed completely oblivious to their various thoughts. She was simply filled with a faint excitement, eager to show Marcus Monroe her masterpiece.

The initial part of the tunnel wasn’t very winding. Paige Summers’s sense of direction was quite good, and she soon realized they were leaving Norgate from underground!

It was as if a three-dimensional map was spinning in her mind. The further they walked, the more astonished she became.

’This direction... It seems to be toward the cavern I fell into with Sheldon Reid last time...’

’What a coincidence!’

Just as she was filled with doubt, Nora Lowell said, "You saw that bastard Shawn Monroe, didn’t you?"

’I didn’t...’

But Marcus Monroe replied nonchalantly, "I saw him from a distance. Looked pretty miserable."

"Exactly!" Nora Lowell suddenly grew excited. "Are you happy? He tried to take The Dead City from you, and then he tried to kill me. He deserved what he got!"

Marcus Monroe said in a flat tone, "It’s fine. But when it comes to my enemies, I prefer to deal with them myself."

"I get it! I understand! I feel the same way!"

Listening to their brief exchange, Paige Summers, who was following silently behind, felt a bit strange.

This blatant fawning... If this were the old Nora Lowell, she would have been furious and jealous, even knowing she wasn’t the one in Marcus Monroe’s heart. But now, it just felt pathetic and ridiculous.

The words she’d used to provoke Nora Lowell earlier, though harsh, were what she truly believed.

Her body had become a Zombie’s, but her mind couldn’t escape its human habits. For Nora Lowell, this in itself was a tragedy.

"Are we there yet?" The tunnel was unexpectedly long. Annoyed by Nora Lowell’s incessant chatter, Marcus Monroe couldn’t help but ask.

Nora Lowell said in a low voice, "Almost. We’ll be there soon. I guarantee it’ll be worth your while!"

Marcus Monroe fell silent, offering no comment.

Nora Lowell’s pace clearly quickened.

After about another twenty minutes of walking, just as Paige Summers estimated they must be very close to the cavern she had fallen into, they rounded a bend. The path ahead suddenly widened, and a faint glimmer of light became visible.

With Paige Summers’s eyesight, she could immediately make out what it was once her eyes adjusted: an iron door.

The tunnel was clearly not newly built, and the iron door was solidly constructed. This was not something Zombies could have accomplished in a short time.

’So this must be the handiwork of the former City Lord of Norgate, Gryphon Lowell.’

A faint sense of unease began to stir in Paige Summers’s heart.
