Chapter 305: Chapter 208: Tactics (2)
"We definitely have to kill it, but we can at least seize the initiative. We can find a home field, set some traps, and lure it over."
"That could work."
Everyone quickly agreed with Paige Summers’s idea.
She lowered her head and began tracing a map of the nearby terrain in the dirt with her finger.
Setting traps was its own kind of science.
She still had Rainbow Water. If she coated some long arrows with it and used them as ground spikes, they would be quite lethal.
They had used the Poison Crossbow yesterday, but there hadn’t been many opportunities.
With so many team members fighting in such close quarters with the zombies, friendly fire was a major risk.
But with traps, that wouldn’t be a problem at all.
Rhonda Rhodes thought for a moment and said, "I can set up a few small Arrays to confuse them. That would make it much easier for everyone to attack. I can’t hold them for long, though, so we should tell the team members in advance to seize the opportunity."
"No problem! I’ll make sure they coordinate with you!" Claire Chapman’s mind immediately went to a few team members who were not only decent fighters but also quick-witted.
After listening, Sean Raines became interested too. "I’ll help you set up the Arrays. I also have some similar talisman paper that could be useful."
Everyone brainstormed furiously and came up with quite a few ideas.
Warmth slowly returned to Claire Chapman’s heart.
’Right! Why the hell should I despair?’
’How can those zombies possibly compare to human intelligence?’
’Even if we both have superpowers, we can use them in all sorts of creative ways. We’ll take you down with dirty tricks if we have to!’
The battle plan began to take shape, piece by piece.
「After another day and night of rest」
Most of the team members had more or less recovered.
To make this happen, Paige Summers had contributed a large number of Crystal Cores, going from filthy rich to dirt poor in an instant... Still, you could always get more Crystal Cores by killing zombies, but a team member only had one life.
Just then, Rhonda Rhodes’s defensive formation was about to give out.
And so, after a break of two days and one night, they decided to fight the Zombie Leader again!
They chose this very spot as the battlefield.
That morning, as soon as the defensive formation was deactivated, everyone got busy with their tasks.
Ben took a few Earth Ability Users to help Paige Summers dig the traps.
The two of them had done this once before, so they weren’t rusty.
The Metal Arrows, some old and some freshly made, had all been soaked in Rainbow Water.
They were just waiting for the traps to be dug before placing them inside.
Rhonda Rhodes and Sean Raines went to set up the Arrays as planned. With the talisman paper, they opted to use talisman formations instead of Arrays they didn’t have the spare energy to control. As soon as a Zombie stepped into one, the talisman paper would explode and take effect. Of course, they couldn’t forget to coordinate with the other team members.
Among them, team members with superpowers like Vincent Vaughn’s were Rhonda Rhodes’s favorite. Invisibility or sound suppression, even if only for a short time to keep the zombies from noticing, would make the plan most effective!
Besides them, Claire Chapman was in charge of taking a team to stand guard. This was crucial; they couldn’t have the zombies showing up before everything was set. So, they weren’t just patrolling. If the zombies came too quickly, they would also be responsible for luring them away to buy more time for the preparation team.
In addition, the team members with the Wood Element Superpower had to preemptively grow some trees to kill the enemy. Although these trees wouldn’t live long, with proper control, they could still kill some zombies before withering away. They were confident; the forest was their domain.
Three Metal Ability Users were responsible for transmuting the metal Paige Summers provided into long spears. They planned to team up with the Power Superpower Users for ranged attacks. While spears weren’t as sharp as swords, with enough force and their subsequent support, they could definitely pierce a Zombie’s skull!
In short, every team member was racking their brains to come up with ways to deal with the zombies and then putting those plans into action!
The preparations for the battle took a full hour to complete.
But two hours later, the zombies still hadn’t come.
Aside from a few mindless Low-level Zombies that stumbled into them, the Zombie Leader was nowhere to be seen.
Now, everyone was scratching their heads.
It wasn’t impossible to go looking for it, but the chances of finding it were too slim. If it was determined not to show up, they might not even notice it, even if it was disguised as a regular Zombie hiding in a corner.
’Who can figure out what a zombie is thinking!’
Just as everyone was at their wits’ end, Sean Raines, who had been wrestling with a decision, approached Claire Chapman and Paige Summers.
"I have a way to lure it here, but..."
Claire Chapman’s eyes widened. "If you have an idea, just say it! Why are you hemming and hawing?!"
Sean Raines gave her his customary look of disdain. "Obviously! I was going to say, I’ve seen it before. It even hunted me for two days! You know why?" He paused, suddenly noticing they were both staring at him in surprise, as if to say, ’And you’re still alive?!’
The corner of his mouth twitched. "What’s with that look? It probably underestimated me back then and only sent a few zombies after me, so I escaped. But I’m sure it was because I brought out my refined corpse."
Paige Summers and Claire Chapman exchanged a look.
Although they didn’t understand why, using this method meant exposing Sean Raines’s practice of Corpse Refining. Some people might not know what it was, but everyone would see that something was wrong. A moving corpse... In their eyes, it might as well be a mutated Zombie!
Should they do it, or not?
Paige Summers was silent for only a few seconds. "Don’t worry, the team is pretty accepting. In fact, many people have probably noticed Ben’s peculiarities, but no one’s said anything. I believe they won’t make a big deal out of this either."
There were many things about Ben that were different from other people.
It didn’t matter when they’d only known him for a short time, but after spending so much time together day in and day out, it was only a matter of time before he was found out.
When that Miles Chandler started staring at Ben for no reason, only to sheepishly turn away whenever she caught him, Paige Summers was already mentally prepared.
However, since he never did anything else, she just pretended not to notice.
Sean Raines suddenly laughed. "Heh, you’re right. With Ben taking the heat, what’s my little secret in comparison!"
’What an unlikeable man!’
