Chapter 58: Half - Beast transformation
The moment the words left Bear’s mouth, the battlefield changed.
"Half-Beast Transformation."
A terrifying pressure erupted from his body.
BOOM!
The asphalt beneath his feet cracked apart as a violent shockwave spread in every direction. The surrounding soldiers instinctively retreated several steps, their eyes wide.
Bear threw his head back and roared. "ROOOOAAARRR!!"
The sound echoed across the battlefield, momentarily drowning out the constant rattle of gunfire and explosions.
Then came the change.
Crack! Crack! Crack!
Bones shifted and joints expanded as his muscles began swelling at a frightening rate. His entire frame grew larger by the second. Dark brown fur burst through his skin, spreading across his body like wildfire.
His fingers thickened into enormous paws tipped with claws nearly half a meter long.
His jaw pushed forward, reshaping into a powerful muzzle lined with razor-sharp fangs.
Within only a few seconds, the man had vanished. Standing in his place was a monstrous brown bear nearly fourteen feet tall.
Its shoulders were broader than a military truck, and every breath that escaped its nostrils resembled clouds of white steam.
The sheer aura radiating from the beast caused even the surrounding zombies to stagger.
The soldiers swallowed hard, staring at the titan.
"So this is the might of superpower users," one soldier commented, his voice shaking.
Another soldier chimed in,
"Not everyone’s power is like this. I have heard rumors that Captain Bear was injected with one of Rizen Group’s Original Superhuman serums."
Soldier A’s eyes shone. He muttered, "I wonder when I can also obtain the serum."
Soldier B shook his head.
"Forget about this kind of item. You won’t be able to buy it even if you have money until you have the right connections."
The surrounding soldiers who were listening to the conversation felt their hearts sink. But Soldier B’s next words gave them a sudden glimmer of hope.
"I have an uncle among the higher-ups," Soldier B whispered, leaning in.
"I have heard that the military is creating their own serums in a secret location. The success rate isn’t high, but there is a chance. You just have to take part in some trials and experiments first."
He paused, looking toward the group. "If you all want then, I can ask my uncle and help you to include your name on the list."
The soldiers began clamoring, their discipline momentarily forgotten.
"Hey, can you also add me to the list?"
"Me too, man!"
Soldier B showed a difficult expression, waving his hands.
"Well, the list is almost full, there aren’t many spots left for all of you."
The soldiers fell silent, each forming their own plans in their heads to secure a spot.
Right at that moment, a senior officer shouted at them from down the line.
"What are you all whispering about? Focus!"
The soldiers snapped back into formation.
As Soldier B turned to face the horde, an unnatural look flashed in his eyes, and a dark grin crept across his face.
Across the street, the six Brutes turned toward the gigantic bear almost simultaneously. Even facing a monster of that size, they showed no semblance of fear in their eyes.
Bear slowly rolled his massive shoulders.
Crack... Crack...
The sound resembled boulders grinding against one another. He lowered his body, slamming one enormous paw against the ground.
BOOM!
The street shook violently.
Without another second of hesitation, Bear charged. Every heavy step sounded like artillery shells exploding. BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
The nearest Brute let out a furious roar and charged head-on. The two colossal monsters rapidly closed the distance. Fifty meters. Thirty. Ten. Then—
BAAAAM!!
The collision shook the entire street. A violent shockwave blasted outward, blowing nearby zombies off their feet and shattering every remaining window within dozens of meters.
The Brute swung its gigantic fist, but Bear answered with one of his own. BOOM!
The impact created an explosion of compressed air. The Brute staggered back two steps, but Bear didn’t budge.
With a savage roar, he grabbed the Brute by its shoulders and slammed his forehead straight into its face.
CRAAACK!
The Brute’s nose collapsed inward. Before it could recover, Bear wrapped both arms around its thick waist. Veins bulged beneath his fur as his muscles swelled to their absolute limit.
With a deafening roar
"ROOOOAAARRR!!"
he lifted the thirteen-foot monster completely off the ground.
The surrounding soldiers watched in utter disbelief.
"He’s... lifting a Brute..."
"No..."
"He’s throwing it!"
Bear spun once, twice, and then released. The gigantic Brute flew through the air like a missile.
BOOOOM!!
It crashed hard into two other Brutes, sending all three tumbling backward through the walls of an abandoned building. Concrete and debris exploded everywhere.
John wasn’t simply watching this time. He raised his hand, and several thick steel rods that had been sharpened at the ends lifted into the air, completely defying gravity.
As he walked forward, the metal rods began spinning rapidly in mid-air like drills.
With a swift forward motion of his hand, the steel rods accelerated, piercing straight into the heads and bodies of the three tangled Brutes.
PUCHI!
The Brutes roared in agonizing pain as dark black blood began to pour out of their bodies.
The missile crew took this perfect opportunity to strike.
"All heavy weapons."
"Focus fire on the Brutes!"
Missile launchers locked on in an instant. Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!
Several rockets streaked toward the collapsed monsters, and a series of deafening explosions engulfed the street in fire and thick black smoke.
John, however, never took his eyes off the burning wreckage.
"...It’s not over."
Right on cue, a terrifying roar echoed from inside the fire and smoke.
Meanwhile, Bear accelerated toward the demolished building, determined to finish them.
Thump! Thump! Thump!
His heavy paws stomped the road, making the entire neighborhood shake. He dove straight into the billowing cloud of smoke .
But just as fast as he entered, he was sent flying straight back out.
He crashed onto the asphalt, sliding several meters.
A deep, enraged roar erupted from within the dust cloud, louder and more menacing than before. The ground began to tremble once more as something even larger forced its way out of the collapsing building.
