Chapter 11: Chapter 11: Beyond the Walls
"Wait, she is very powerful; the base will surely benefit from her. She is also the one who saved us from the horde of zombies." Zhou Yinuo hurriedly said, afraid that the man would close the door in their face.
"The base will only allow the people who will benefit the base. If she does not prove to be worthy of the base, she will be kicked out in one week." the burly man said and nodded at his colleagues.
A different woman walked out from the small door, wearing full protective suits and gloves. She first poked a hole in Zhou Yinuo's fingers and asked her to drop her blood on a strange small device.
After a few minutes, she nodded and repeated the process on Chen Wei and Liang Zihan.
Yinuo walked towards Liora and whispered, It's the device to check the zombie virus. They will not allow anyone inside who was contaminated with it.
Liora nodded at her and looked back at the device. She also found it very peculiar how a small device could detect anything; it is some type of witchcraft, which they do after dropping someone's blood on it.
Soon Liora's time to test also came, and the lady in a full protective suit poked a small hole in her finger and asked her to drop her blood on it.
drip drip...
Soon after a minute, the blood turned into a blue color, and Liora's eyes widened like a child who had seen magic.
"How...?" Her voice came out as a strange whisper, but the lady only smiled and walked toward the burly man. "They are all fine," she said and disappeared behind the small gate.
"You can all go in," the man said, gesturing for them to proceed. "But the new girl needs to visit the staff inside to get an ID issued for herself."
As Liora and the trio stepped inside the massive gate, the first thing that struck her was the contrast between the outside and the world inside the massive walls.
The air, though still heavy with the scent of decay, felt slightly less oppressive. The walls that surrounded the base were imposing, but beyond them was a glimpse of something resembling life.
There are many two- or three-story houses around the long road. Yinuo led the way, guiding them through what appeared to be a well-kept area of the base. The buildings here were far more beautiful than anything Liora had seen after arriving in this world.
Tall structures with neatly maintained exteriors stood beside paved streets. The buildings had windows with glass—rare enough to be noticed in this post-apocalyptic world. People moved here with ease, no longer afraid of zombies, their clothing was cleaner, their faces less weary.
"This is the residential area," Yinuo explained, her voice carrying a hint of pride. "The people here have earned more than 1000 points. They live relatively comfortably. Some of them even work as guards or technicians. You can see there's a more organized structure, at least in this part."
Liora took in the scene with quiet wonder, admiring the rare sight of greenery—plants in pots were dotted along the walkways.
It was like a small city, a very beautiful one. "Wow," Liora said, her eyes darting from one corner to another. After arriving in this place, it was the first time she had seen so many people. There were many on the roads, men and women walking around, some carrying weapons and some walking barehanded.
In contrast to the world outside the walls, the base looked like a bustling city.
Liora was happy that she did not have to live in those zombie-filled places and dirty houses. She thought to herself, This base was good, but not as good as her previous palace in her past life.
Yinuo was happy to see that Liora did not dislike their base. She could live with them, after all. Yinuo only hoped that Liora would stay. Who does not want a strong member in their group? If Liora decided to stay and join their group, their living conditions in the base would only increase and become better.
"I will take Wei'er to the healer. Yinuo, you can show Miss Liora around the base," Liang Zihan said and nodded at Liora before walking down a different path, probably leading toward the healer's quarters.
Liora did not respond, only looking at the back of Liang Zihan and thinking to herself, "Healer, seeing their tone and trust, it seems like the healer of the base is a very respectable person."
"It's not like we don't trust you, but we don't know if Chen Wei is seriously injured or not, and only a good healer can fully heal him," Yinuo hurriedly explained as she looked at the silent Liora. She was afraid that Liora would misunderstand their intention.
They just didn't want to take risks. It's better to be prepared than sorry. After all, it's a matter of life and death.
"Ahh! I don't mind. It's a wise decision to see a healer," Liora said and smiled softly at Yinuo. Yinuo felt tense and nervous after hearing Liora's reply because she didn't want to offend her.
"By the way, what can a healer do? You know, I can't remember much," Liora said while pointing at her injured forehead.

Yinuo's face turned guilty as she hurriedly said, "I completely forgot. You should also go and see the healer. Your head injury looks grave."
"No need. It's fine, and it doesn't look like affording a healer is that easy," Liora said with a chuckle. She could guess this much by looking at the situation.
"Ah, you're right." Yinuo also chuckled, her face flushing red.
"Yeah, their fees are very high and most people could not even afford them, and it also leads to many unexpected deaths." Zhou Yinuo continued with a sad expression, like hiding the pain in her voice.
"What is the specialty of a healer? I mean... what can they do?" Liora asked as her interest was piqued by this healer.
