Chapter 205: Chapter 205 This place is terrible!
The two burly guards stationed outside immediately recognized both Albert and the truck.
Without hesitation, they unlocked the heavy gates.
The massive doors creaked open just enough for the truck to pass through.
The moment they entered...
The full scale of the chaos revealed itself.
Thousands of survivors packed every available space.
Some huddled around tiny campfires in an attempt to stay warm.
Others desperately bartered scraps of food, worn-out clothing, or salvaged equipment.
Barefoot children wandered through the muddy pathways while exhausted adults sat silently against broken walls with lifeless expressions.
Every few seconds, another dispute erupted over food, shelter, or territory.
The entire place buzzed like an overcrowded marketplace.
Darren stared through the window with wide eyes.
"What the fuck is wrong with them?" he asked in disbelief. I honestly thought things would’ve improved by now."
His gaze swept across the seemingly endless sea of survivors.
"There are even more people here than before."
Albert let out a tired sigh as he carefully maneuvered the truck through the crowded streets.
"We didn’t have much of a choice."
He lightly pressed the horn several times, forcing pedestrians to move aside.
"After the recent monster outbreaks, countless survivors fled from nearby towns and smaller settlements."
Another blast of the horn echoed through the street.
"We couldn’t just abandon them outside the walls."
He shook his head.
"We’re working on organizing everyone, but it’s going to take time."
Suddenly, a loud scream rang out.
Without warning, two men lunged at one another.
Within seconds, fists began flying.
Another survivor grabbed a thick wooden stick and swung it with all his strength.
Thud!
The blow landed squarely on the other man’s shoulder.
"Woah!"
Darren immediately leaned toward the window.
"What the fuck are they fighting over now?"
His eyes widened as the fight escalated.
One of the men raised the wooden stick again.
"Where are the soldiers?"
Darren frowned.
"They should be separating them!"
He looked around in disbelief.
"This place is terrible."
Albert merely sighed.
"The base simply can’t accommodate everyone."
His voice carried obvious exhaustion.
"Most newcomers are forced to stay outside the inner district until more housing and supplies become available."
He glanced toward the fighting crowd.
"Those people are arguing because relocation orders were issued earlier today."
Ivy quietly listened.
"Some groups have to leave their current spots and move elsewhere so we can reorganize the camp."
Albert shook his head.
"But nobody wants to give up the little space they’ve managed to claim."
"So they fight over it," Darren muttered.
"Exactly."
Albert nodded.
"And as for the soldiers..."
He exhaled heavily.
"They’re already stretched beyond their limits. They can’t split themselves into a hundred different people just to break up every single fight."
Ivy remained silent.
She simply observed the heartbreaking scene through the passenger window.
Several minutes later...
The towering inner steel gates of Fierce Hunter Base finally came into view.
Massive concrete walls surrounded the residential district.
Armed soldiers stood guard atop the fortifications.
Heavy machine guns pointed toward the wasteland beyond the walls, ready to unleash devastating firepower at a moment’s notice.
Albert rolled down his window and handed over his identification card.
One of the guards immediately recognized him.
"Captain Albert!"
The soldier straightened instantly before giving a crisp military salute.
He quickly grabbed his communicator.
"Commander Erick’s guests have arrived."
A few moments later...
The enormous steel gates slowly rumbled open.
Even so, security remained incredibly strict.
The armored truck first stopped at an inspection station.
Several soldiers carefully verified everyone’s identities before thoroughly searching the vehicle for prohibited items, explosives, illegal weapons, or hidden threats.
Only after the inspection was completed were they allowed to proceed.
A short distance later...
They arrived at a second checkpoint.
This inspection focused entirely on possible infections, mutations, and any hidden signs of monster contamination.
Normally, ordinary survivors would be detained immediately and placed under quarantine for observation before being allowed anywhere near the residential district.
However...
The supervising officer looked over their identification one final time before respectfully stepping aside.
"You may proceed."
Darren blinked in surprise.
"No quarantine?"
The officer smiled politely.
"Deputy Administrator Erick has already issued special authorization for your arrival."
He bowed his head slightly.
"You are distinguished guests of Fierce Hunter Base."
Albert grinned.
"Good."
He placed the truck back into gear.
"Let’s head inside."
The armored vehicle slowly drove deeper into the heart of Fierce Hunter Base, leaving the crowded refugee district behind.
