Chapter 118: The Gift tomorrow

April stood up smoothly, dusting off her trousers as she slid the empty glass vial back into her pocket.

She was a bit worried that she would need more quantity of the water to heal him completely since having just a few sips is completely different from soaking in the spring itself, but she was glad it worked out.

"We’ll have the black market network for your miracle water fully operational in exactly one week," Nat stated, staring down at the fully healed traitor on the concrete.

April adjusted her blazer, her expression remaining entirely flat. "Why a week?"

"Because you don’t just dump a miracle asset onto the street like cheap candy, sweetheart," Nat chuckled, turning his head to glance at her with a dangerous, sharp glint in his eye. "I need to selectively leak the word through the pipelines. We want the desperate lineage heads, the dying tycoons, and the underground bosses clawing at each other’s throats for a single drop. You want prime clients, right?"

"Obviously," April replied.

"And how much were you pricing a single vial at again?" Nat asked, leaning his heavy frame back against the steel pillar. "A billion?"

"One billion dollars. No less," she stated firmly.

"I can get you easily double that from the right buyer," Nat snickered, his chest vibrating as he shook his head. "Always looking at the profit sheets. Man, I love that about you."

April gave a single, slow nod, completely unfazed by the comment. "Money moves the world, Mr. Collins. Especially right now while the global financial systems are still completely intact. In seven weeks, it won’t be worth the paper it’s printed on."

"Too true," Nat rumbled, pushing off the pillar and stepping closer to her. "Since the deal is locked in, how about we grab some dinner to celebrate? I know a place down by the docks that serves an incredible prime rib."

"No, I’ll pass," April refused instantly without a shred of hesitation but then she glanced back at the man on the floor. Pity. She thought. Now, you’re going to experience hell all over.

She stepped towards him, took the pair of shades hanging from his pocket and then wore it.

"Goodnight, Mr. Collins. I’ll see you when it’s time to start business." She stated, and turned around to leave.

Nat let out a loud, delighted bark of a laugh behind her as she marched toward the warehouse doors. "Cold as ice! Get home safe, little seer!"

The taxi ride back to the base of the mountain ridge was quiet, the city lights flickering past the tinted windows.

April sat silently in the back seat, her mind entirely focused on the game displayed on her titanium pro.

Right as the cab pulled up to the gravel shoulder near the estate’s primary security checkpoint, her phone buzzed, covering up the colorful blocks of her game.

She felt a little bit of spite but answered anyway. "Hello? Mr. Greels?"

Alexander Greels’ voice immediately boomed through the speaker after her words, sounding exceptionally bright and energized, devoid of his former arrogance.

"Miss April! Good evening," Alexander greeted quickly. "I just wanted to call and let you know that the gift I promised you is finally ready."

April blinked, pausing on the gravel road as she remembered the conversation on the terrace from that morning.

The heir had mentioned his grandfather was nagging him to show a real gesture of gratitude for saving their family assets, and he had looked incredibly mischievous about it.

"Were is it?" April asked flatly. "When can I see it or will it be delivered here to Mr. Reed’s estate?"

"Oh, you’ll see tomorrow," Alexander grinned through the line, his tone completely full of confidence. "My grandfather and I had it fully sorted out but we can’t send it over there. Can you come down to the Greels private estate tomorrow morning to look at it? I’ll have a security transport waiting for you at 09:00 AM."

April calculated her timeline for the morning. She had nothing planned for her schedule yet since she hadn’t heard a word from Samuel, so she was available.

"All right," April agreed, her tone steady. "I will meet the transport at the designated hour."

"Awesome! See you tomorrow, Miss April!"

She hung up the phone, her calm expression returning as she walked past the iron gates of the Reed estate.

She didn’t know what kind of item the Greels family had procured, but as long as it had high utility value for the bunker, she would gladly accept it into her inventory.

Stepping through the front doors of the quiet villa, Rufus trotted silently at her side.

"Hey, you, have you eaten yet?" She asked with a quiet voice and Rufus wagged its tail happily as it followed her in.

As she crossed into the primary living room area, she spotted Xavier. He was sitting at the massive mahogany desk, lit only by a single warm desk lamp, slowly turning the pages of several physical documents.

The atmosphere in the room felt heavy, almost fragile. There was a weird, unsaid tension hanging between them—something April didn’t fully register on a personal level, but she could clearly see that Xavier was intensely aware of it.

He looked up the moment her sneakers squeaked against the floorboards.

"Where is Samuel?" April asked, noticing the lack of her usual shadow anywhere around and it wasnt even 7 yet.

"I sent him home early," Xavier replied, his deep voice sounding rougher, more tired than usual. He closed the folder in front of him. "We have an extensive workload ahead of us tomorrow so I needed him very fit. Did I, by chance, disrupt your schedule by tearing Samuel away from you, even after I assigned him to assist you?"

April shook her head slightly. "No. No, it’s fine. It’s actually great to relax and not overdo it anyway."

Xavier gave a slow, quiet nod. Just as April was about to ask what the kitchen staff had prepared for dinner, he reached into his pocket and pulled out his phone, his eyes locking onto her face.

"Miss April... Can I get a reading?"

April paused, stepping a few paces closer to the desk. "What kind of reading would you like to have? Financial? Survival? Or... something else?"

Xavier opened his mouth to speak, a deep conflict flashing across his immaculate features before he suppressed it. He bypassed her options entirely. "Anything. Just... give me a reading. I’ll send the money to your account right now. Just call your price."

He sounded completely off. His behavior was entirely too weird to ignore, lacking his usual rigid, calculating corporate armor.

April looked at him for a long moment. "Mr. Reed, is something wrong? Is the fact that the world is ending in a few weeks bothering you?"

Xavier went entirely silent. He set his phone down on the polished wood, the screen dark. He interlocked his fingers, staring down at his knuckles as the heavy silence stretched between them.

"Can I... talk to you?" he asked quietly.

April blinked, surprised by the sudden vulnerability, but she nodded and took a seat in the armchair across from him. "Of course. You may not know it, but I actually give free advice sessions sometimes," she said, letting out a small, rare joking laugh to ease the pressure in the room. "What is it?"
