Chapter 354: Chapter 354: Petty Revenge

When he finished laughing, he realized Stella Sterling wasn’t speaking. She was just staring at him indifferently.

His heart skipped a beat, and he felt a little scared inside.

They had grown familiar with each other over the past few days, and he had started acting more casually around her, no longer on edge like he used to be.

But he hadn’t forgotten for a second just how terrifying this woman was.

Now, seeing her looking at him like that, his heart started pounding like a drum, thumping away without end.

He spoke up again. "Miss, I was wrong. I shouldn’t have badmouthed the man you like. But I wasn’t really trying to! Back in my day, that guy was famous for being crazy!"

"But aside from acting a little crazy, he didn’t really have any other flaws."

He thought for a moment, then added, "And, on a brighter note, he never had any women around him. I never even heard rumors of him being remotely romantic with anyone."

Stella Sterling tapped lightly on the steering wheel. "What are you so afraid for?"

Andrew Shaw desperately wanted to protest. ’How could I not be scared when she’s staring at me like that?’

But the words that came out of his mouth were, "I’m not scared, not scared at all. I just feel a little sorry for misspeaking. I’m not scared of you."

Stella Sterling kept her eyes on him. Since she was driving, she didn’t make any move.

She simply said, "Next time you see him, give him a proper apology."

"Yes, yes, I’ll definitely apologize to him."

Andrew Shaw nodded profusely, letting out a huge sigh of relief internally. ’An apology? Is that all? That’s simple. Good thing it’s just an apology. Compared to my life, it’s nothing.’ So he agreed without a moment’s hesitation.

Heh.

Stella scoffed but didn’t say anything more. She wasn’t about to actually punish him over this.

After all, he was one of her people now. She had to be a little more forgiving with her own. Besides, he’d been very quick to admit he was wrong.

He hadn’t known any better and was just telling it like it was.

When Andrew Shaw saw her expression return to normal, the heart that had been lodged in his throat finally dropped back into his chest. He knew he had passed this test. His life was safe, at least for now.

He repeatedly warned himself, ’If this woman asks me about anything or anyone in the future, I have to figure out their relationship to her before I open my mouth.’

’I absolutely cannot make the same mistake again.’

Andrew Shaw thought the matter was over and done with, so he didn’t dwell on it. He just kept reminding himself not to make that mistake again.

But he soon realized his mistake. ’How could I have forgotten? This woman isn’t just terrifying, she’s also incredibly petty!’

’How could she possibly let him off so easily?’

This became especially apparent at mealtime.

For the past few days, he had been eating whatever she ate. She always prepared an extra portion for him.

Today, he watched with his own eyes as she conjured up a serving of spicy crawfish, a container of fire chicken noodles, and a large glass of Sprite out of thin air.

His mouth started watering just looking at it all. At the thought of eating this for lunch, he felt his stomach churning with excitement, practically cheering.

But after taking out all this food, she didn’t produce a second portion. She just started eating by herself, completely ignoring him.

He opened his mouth to ask several times but was too embarrassed to actually say anything.

He assumed she was just teasing him and would give him his share in a bit. After all, she had never given him a hard time about food before.

So he suppressed his impatience and waited quietly.

He decided he’d wait for her to finish, and then maybe wait a little longer before asking.

But once she finished eating, she showed no sign of remembering him. She simply adjusted her position and prepared to rest.

Andrew Shaw started to get anxious. He quickly spoke up, "Miss, miss! Did you forget about me? I haven’t eaten yet!"

Hearing this, Stella Sterling opened her eyes as if only just remembering his existence. She pointed to something nearby. "Isn’t this for you?"

Andrew Shaw looked over and saw a single, plain steamed bun. Just one plain steamed bun, and nothing else.

He shot her a puzzled look. ’Just this?’

’But what about the spicy crawfish and fire chicken noodles?’

To be fair, the plain steamed bun was quite good—fragrant and soft. There was a time when he couldn’t have dreamed of eating something like this.

But after days of eating rich and spicy food with Stella Sterling, his palate had been thoroughly spoiled.

Suddenly switching back to a plain steamed bun was a shock to his system.

He opened his mouth, wanting to ask if she’d made a mistake.

But before he could get the words out, Stella Sterling suddenly sat up and said in a surprised tone, "Oh? You’re not hungry? You don’t want to eat it? Well, in that case, we can just skip this meal!"

After saying that, Stella Sterling snatched the steamed bun away, not giving Andrew Shaw any time to react.

Andrew Shaw’s eyes went wide in disbelief.

When he looked over again, he saw the woman had her eyes closed and appeared to be asleep already.

He opened and closed his mouth several times, but ultimately didn’t have the courage to wake her. Defeated, he slumped back into his seat in the back of the car.

It was only then that he finally understood. ’She’s doing this on purpose. She’s getting back at me for what I said earlier.’

He had thought the incident was long forgotten. He never expected that while she hadn’t done anything to him then, she was setting this trap for him with food.

’This woman is so petty! I just said a couple of bad things about her crush. Does she really have to treat me like this?’

’Aren’t we supposed to be friends by now? She really is the type to ditch a friend for a guy.’

He rubbed his stomach, comforting himself. ’Luckily, I ate my fill yesterday. I used to go two or three days without food all the time. Now I’m eating several meals a day. It’s infinitely better than before.’

’So skipping just one meal is no big deal!’

He kept telling himself this, but another thought echoed in his mind: ’I can never, ever offend this woman again.’

’Otherwise, not only will I lose all this delicious food, I’ll go back to starving like before.’

For now, all he could do was hope she’d only make him skip this one meal. He prayed that by the next one, her anger would have cooled.

’Even if she’s still mad, I hope she doesn’t starve me. I’d even be happy with just a single steamed bun.’
