Chapter 348: Chapter 348: It’s None of Her Business

The men breathed a sigh of relief, hardly able to believe it.

But they quickly snapped out of it and scrambled toward their car in the distance.

Internally, they all let out a huge sigh of relief.

From the moment they’d met, this woman had struck them as incredibly dangerous.

They could feel the danger just by being near her.

They were even starting to regret it—regretting provoking these two and having had designs on them.

They were only able to escape because they’d reacted quickly and admitted their mistake in time.

Now, they didn’t dare think about anything else. Survival was all that mattered.

So when the men heard they could leave, they ran faster than anyone.

Their behavior left Andrew Shaw dumbfounded. He was particularly struck by the man who had grabbed him—that man’s reaction when he slapped himself twice made Andrew feel somewhat inadequate in comparison.

Even he, knowing that a woman traveling alone in the wild would be no simple character, wouldn’t have debased himself to such an extent.

’Not knowing her true strength, I’d definitely be on guard, but not as timid as these guys.’

’And let’s not forget, they were the aggressors here. Yet just by meeting this woman, they abandoned all their plans, obediently apologized, and left. They were so harsh on themselves, afraid her anger would be misdirected at them.’

He wouldn’t have been surprised if they had adopted this attitude *after* witnessing the woman’s power.

But they were acting purely on speculation. They had no idea what her true strength was, yet they were being so incredibly cautious.

’I can’t tell if they’re being overly cautious or just plain spineless.’

’But from the looks of them, they didn’t seem like small-time thugs. They didn’t seem like the type to be scared of their own shadows. They shouldn’t be this timid.’

What Andrew Shaw didn’t know was that while the men were ignorant of the woman’s true strength, they trusted their own intuition.

Their intuition screamed that she was extremely dangerous. In all their years navigating the apocalypse, they had developed their own system.

Their rule was simple: if they weren’t sure, couldn’t get a read on someone, or couldn’t see through them, they didn’t provoke them. This method had greatly increased their survival rate.

They misjudged sometimes, of course, but there was no harm in taking a step back.

It was better than truly provoking someone they shouldn’t have and facing the dire consequences.

In the years since the apocalypse began, they had relied on this intuition to avoid countless dangers.

It was the reason they were still alive.

Be arrogant when you can, and bow your head when you must. They had always understood this and lived by this rule of survival.

Surviving this long wasn’t easy, and they cherished their lives. They weren’t timid, but they always trusted their gut.

When they sensed danger, they retreated.

It was better to be a little pathetic than to be dead. If you lost your life, you truly lost everything.

"You’re just going to let them leave like that?"

Andrew Shaw turned to look at Stella Sterling and asked. The men’s reaction had been unexpected, but so was this woman’s.

He’d thought that, given her previous actions, she wouldn’t have shown these men any mercy. He expected her to eliminate them to prevent any future trouble.

’But it seems I was wrong again. She actually let them go so easily.’

He still found it hard to believe. He even wondered if she was just toying with these men, like she had with that man and woman yesterday.

And then, just when they thought they saw a glimmer of hope, she would strike.

But now the men were in their car, had started the engine, and were driving away. The woman showed no signs of acting. It looked like she was truly letting them go.

He was still stunned and in disbelief. ’This doesn’t seem like her style at all.’

Hearing his question, Stella Sterling glanced down at him. "They didn’t mess with me. And they knew when to back off. Why shouldn’t I let them go?"

Andrew Shaw was taken aback by her words. Come to think of it, other than dragging him to her car, the men hadn’t really done anything else. They had even been surprisingly polite.

In Stella Sterling’s eyes, there was naturally no reason to attack them.

But he pointed to his face. "That guy hit me. We’re partners now, more or less. Shouldn’t you stick up for me?"

"And did I not?"

Stella Sterling raised an eyebrow.

Andrew Shaw remembered the two slaps the man had given himself. It seemed he’d only done it because of the woman’s casual question.

’Did she know they were afraid of her? Did she realize they wouldn’t dare to cross her, so she deliberately mentioned the punch, forcing the man to punish himself?’

The thought left Andrew Shaw with mixed feelings. He shook his head. "But those guys... they aren’t good people."

He was about to tell Stella Sterling what he had overheard.

But before he could speak, Stella Sterling said dismissively, "So what?"

Andrew Shaw looked at her, confused. With a look of utter indifference, Stella Sterling said, "In this apocalypse, who isn’t ruthless?"

Andrew Shaw fell silent.

Stella Sterling looked down at him. "In your past life, after living for so long, were all your deeds good ones?"

Andrew Shaw’s shoulders slumped. ’Okay, fine. I’m not exactly a good person either.’

’Considering the things I’ve done, I really can’t be called a good person.’

’I might not be some great villain, but to survive, I’ve had to fight people for resources and resort to a few tricks now and then.’

’Kindness isn’t always a good thing, not unless you’re so overwhelmingly strong that you don’t have to fear anyone.’

’Otherwise, someone too pure and kind would have a hard time surviving in this world.’

’Of course, kindness isn’t the problem. The era is.’

Stella Sterling’s voice sounded in his ear again. "Everyone has their own way of surviving. As long as they don’t bring their trouble to my doorstep, it’s none of my business."

Hearing this, Andrew Shaw fell completely silent.

「On the other side」

The driver was completely bewildered when he saw his companions scrambling back into the car.

"What happened to you guys? I was watching you the whole time. How could you come back without doing anything? What the hell is going on? You’d better give me an explanation!"
