Chapter 321: Chapter 321: Such a Good Performance
As he spoke, his eyes scanned the room.
He wanted to see if the two of them had saved him any food.
But after searching for a long time, he couldn’t find any leftovers.
In disbelief, he surveyed the room again, then ran to the kitchen, looking left and right!
He finally had to admit that there was truly nothing left. The two of them hadn’t saved him a single bite.
He emerged from the kitchen. "You two seriously didn’t save me anything? Did you hide it?"
Hearing this, Stella Sterling cleared her throat. "We finished it all. Sorry about that!"
Initially, she had planned to save him a little so he could have a taste.
But as she ate, she got carried away. It had been so long since she’d had anything this delicious that she completely forgot about saving some for Basil Xavier.
At her words, Basil Xavier looked up and sighed. "You two are just the worst."
Then he shot Stella Sterling a resentful glare.
In the end, however, he didn’t say anything more.
He turned to Gordon Ford. Stella Sterling was one thing, but Gordon...
They were brothers who had been through thick and thin for so many years, yet Gordon hadn’t even thought of him. It was truly heartbreaking.
Thinking about it, a faint sense of regret crept into his heart.
’It’s all my fault! All my fault!’
’Why did I have to run my mouth like that?’
He had followed Stella Sterling back, and she hadn’t said a thing.
Clearly, she had no objections and was planning for the three of them to eat together.
It was only after he made that exaggerated joke that Stella Sterling knocked him out.
If he had just kept his mouth shut and waited quietly to eat, none of this would have happened.
’It’s all my fault!’
Basil Xavier was filled with remorse. It wasn’t that he was starving or lacking food; he just really wanted to taste Gordon Ford’s cooking.
After all, he’d known Gordon Ford for so many years and never knew he could cook. What did his food taste like? He was genuinely curious.
Thinking of this, Basil Xavier shot Gordon Ford another resentful look.
’When it comes down to it, that punk Gordon is just not a true friend!’
’He’s not loyal, and he chose a girl over his bro!’
He’d known him for years, they’d run missions together in the field for years, and not once had Gordon Ford cooked a single dish for him.
But for Stella Sterling, he was more than willing.
If Gordon had cooked for him before, he wouldn’t have been so surprised today, and he wouldn’t have been knocked out by Stella Sterling.
Basil Xavier’s gaze grew more and more accusatory.
The way he looked at Gordon Ford was like he was staring at a heartless scumbag who had betrayed his love.
That look made even Stella Sterling glance at Gordon Ford with suspicion.
’Could it be that this guy really did something to wrong him?’
Otherwise, why would Basil Xavier’s reaction be so over-the-top?
Being stared at like that by Basil Xavier was starting to give Gordon Ford a headache.
Now, seeing Stella Sterling looking at him the same way, his headache intensified.
"You’re overdoing it," he said, giving Basil Xavier a cool look.
’This guy is being a little too dramatic.’
Making such a face over something so trivial could easily cause a misunderstanding.
It would be one thing if it were just them, but this was in front of Stella Sterling.
Seeing Gordon Ford’s expression, Basil Xavier glanced back at Stella Sterling’s suspicious gaze.
He chuckled awkwardly, realizing he had gone too far. If he kept this up, he’d really cause a misunderstanding between them, and that wouldn’t be good.
So, he let out a couple of hearty laughs, returned to his normal self, and sat down. "I don’t care. You have to cook for me next time!"
Stella Sterling looked at him. "Didn’t Stephen Lawrence have someone prepare food for you?"
Although she thought Basil Xavier had been acting like a complete idiot lately...
...she also knew he was just trying to liven things up.
Besides, they had known each other for two or three years now.
And while she’d found him a bit annoying recently, there was still a bit of friendship between them.
Now that he was here, as the host, Stella Sterling certainly wasn’t going to let him go hungry.
She had specifically instructed Stephen Lawrence to prepare food for Basil Xavier as soon as he woke up.
It was precisely because she had already made these arrangements that she felt no guilt while eating.
But his earlier theatrics made her wonder if he hadn’t eaten dinner at all, which would explain his dramatic reaction. If that were the case, she did feel a little bad.
However, Stella Sterling wasn’t the type to inconvenience herself. That bit of guilt lasted for only a second or two before vanishing completely from her mind.
Who told him to speak so carelessly? If she had let him keep talking, who knows what else he would have said. She didn’t want such talk ruining her appetite during a meal.
Hearing Stella Sterling mention this, Basil Xavier seemed to remember something, and the complaint on his face faded away again. "Oh, no, he did! He prepared something for me!"
Recalling the food he had just eaten, Basil Xavier couldn’t help but swallow.
Not only had they prepared food for him, but it was a lavish spread with meat and eggs.
In this post-apocalyptic world, such things were top-tier delicacies. He hadn’t had a proper meaty meal in a long time.
He never expected to be eating meat right after arriving at Caeluna Base.
The food at Caeluna Base was much better than what he got at Crescentia Base or Meridia Base.
Because the ingredients were good and the cooking wasn’t bad either, he had eaten a lot tonight, stuffing himself completely.
Thinking about this, Basil Xavier suddenly felt a little embarrassed.
’So what if they didn’t save me any? Stella Sterling didn’t forget about me; she arranged for such a delicious meal.’
’She treated me so well, yet the first thing I did when I came in was complain. That really wasn’t right of me.’
’As for Gordon Ford’s cooking...’
’...well, food is food, no matter who cooks it.’
’Besides, I’ve never seen Gordon cook before. Who knows if his skills are any good? Maybe his food tastes terrible, maybe it’s even inedible.’
He was highly skeptical of Gordon Ford’s culinary skills.
’Maybe his food wasn’t good at all, far worse than the meal I just had.’
’Thinking about it that way, I didn’t lose out at all.’
Basil Xavier consoled himself with this thought, and it actually worked. The more he thought about it, the luckier he felt.
So, he chuckled and casually wiped the corner of his mouth. "The food at your base is pretty good."
