Chapter 310: Chapter 310: Feigned Death?
Shane Lawrence said no more. He knew only one thing: he would support whatever his leader did. That was enough.
’What was the point of overthinking it?’
In this apocalypse, no one could claim to be purely good, so why bother dwelling on anything else?
As for whether others would judge his leader, he felt he was right. If people had a problem with her, if they were dissatisfied, they could leave Caeluna themselves. After all, this was her territory, and she called the shots.
When Stella Sterling returned to where she’d been before, the area had fallen silent. There were no further sounds.
Magnus Sterling had already been dealt with.
As for Magnus Sterling, Stella Sterling had previously seen him as just another member of the Sterling family.
Besides, she hadn’t had much to do with the Sterling Family for many years. As long as he kept his head down and didn’t cause trouble, she was willing to let him have a place to stay here.
After all, she wasn’t supporting him for free. He would have to work for the base to survive, so taking him in was no loss to her.
But she never expected this man to give her such a massive shock.
This person, who she had thought was insignificant to her life, turned out to be the one who had wounded her for a lifetime.
He had played such a role in her life, utterly destroying it.
Stella Sterling killed him without a moment’s hesitation.
Although she would never forgive any of them from the Sterling family, what Magnus Sterling had done demanded punishment.
Ending him with a single shot was, in a way, giving him a quick and clean death.
Magnus Sterling’s body had already been taken away for disposal, but the other members of the Sterling family were still lying there.
Stella Sterling commented casually, "Why the silence? I guess they don’t want their only chance to live."
Seeing the three of them lying motionless on the ground, she asked, "What happened? Are all three gone?"
Hearing this, a member of Caeluna Base said, "Sterling, the three of them were just fighting to the death. They showed each other no mercy—every blow was meant to be fatal."
"So... so..."
After a pause, the Caeluna Base member continued, "They were too vicious. They were trying to kill each other. In the end... none of them made it."
As he said this, he couldn’t help but feel a sense of grim irony. Those three had fought tooth and nail, battering each other to a pulp for that one chance to live.
But in the very end, none of them seized that chance. Sterling didn’t even have to lift a finger; they had already dealt with each other.
It really left you speechless.
"It seems I don’t have to act after all. That’s fine. This is fine."
Stella Sterling nodded. This outcome was completely unexpected.
She muttered to herself, "This must be fate. In the end, I didn’t even have to lift a finger. You all died at each other’s hands."
She glanced one last time at the three bodies on the ground, a complicated look in her eyes. A smile touched her lips, but it was chillingly cold. "Let’s call it even for this life. In the next, let’s hope our family never meets again."
With that, she turned and left, ordering the person behind her, "Take the three of them out of the base. Find a place and bury them."
’It’s the least I can do, for the sake of our blood ties. At least I’m not leaving their bodies to rot in the wilderness.’
After giving the order, Stella Sterling strode away without another word.
From this day forward, her grudge with the Sterling Family was well and truly over. There would be no more ties between them.
Whether it was Yara Sterling or the rest of the family, they were all gone now.
A strange feeling stirred in Stella Sterling’s heart at the thought, but she quickly pushed it down.
In a few days, she would head to Sanctyr Base.
’I don’t like Sanctyr Base, and the sight of Miles Sanctus, in particular, disgusts me.’
Back in her villa, Stella Sterling quickly fell asleep.
The past few days had been exhausting. The Sterling family had shown up as soon as she returned to the base. Now that things had finally quieted down, she could get some proper rest.
But whether by cruel twist of fate or by design, she hadn’t been asleep for long when someone started shouting outside.
"Sterling! That guy, Evan Sterling—he’s escaped!"
Stella Sterling sat up in surprise, casually threw on some clothes, and went outside to find Shane Lawrence looking frantic.
Stella Sterling looked at him. "What happened?"
’Evan Sterling escaped? But I confirmed he was dead myself. How could he have run off? Did he fake his death?’
Shane Lawrence’s next words confirmed Stella Sterling’s suspicion. "Our men were carrying out your orders to dispose of the bodies. Just as they were about to bury the couple, Evan Sterling suddenly woke up, ambushed our men, and escaped."
"He must have been feigning death before. He probably took some kind of drug."
Stella Sterling was surprised for only a moment before her expression returned to calm. When she remembered what this brother she’d never really known did for a living, it was no longer strange.
’It seems he came prepared. To think he actually managed to get away.’
’But Evan Sterling had something like that on him and didn’t give any to his parents. And even though he could have just faked his death to get away, he still fought for that single chance to survive, striking viciously at his own mother and father.’
’He really is a ruthless one.’
’Then again, if he weren’t ruthless, how could he have been involved in developing experiments like that?’
"Sterling, our men are already searching the vicinity for him. He couldn’t have gotten far," Shane Lawrence said grimly.
After everything that had happened between Sterling and his family, they were now sworn enemies.
Plus, the man was a high-priority doctor from Sanctyr Base.
Letting him get back would only mean huge trouble for Caeluna Base.
"Mm, let them search. Once he’s found, deal with him directly. No need to report back to me."
Stella Sterling nodded, showing no signs of panic. Even if he managed to escape back to Sanctyr Base, she wasn’t afraid.
As it happened, she was heading there in a few days anyway.
"Yes, Sterling. This was our men’s mistake. They..."
Stella Sterling waved her hand dismissively. "It’s not their fault. Even I didn’t expect Evan Sterling to take a fake-death drug in advance. If I didn’t suspect he was faking, you can’t blame them."
’Earlier, when I let the three of them "deliberate," I may have left, but I had people watching them. Evan Sterling had no opportunity to take any drug then. That can only mean he took it before he even arrived. He was prepared from the start.’
’Who would have guessed he had made such preparations so far in advance? No one is to blame for this.’
