Chapter 6: No.6: Chilling with Childhood Sweetheart
Upon seeing the notification, Bruce became even more surprised by the fact that she still considered him a friend, despite what had happened between them.
From what he was able to recall from the memories, Summer was Bruce’s one and only childhood friend. And he’d always cared deeply for her for as long as he could remember.
Fearing he’d strain their relationship should he ever divulge his true feelings to her, Bruce always kept them buried deep within himself, as she was the one person he didn’t want to come to dislike him.
So, they remained close friends until recently, when they had a bit of a fight that separated them.
The cause was none other than Sydney. Upon learning that Bruce was dating Sydney, and getting to know the kind of person she truly was, Summer had tried warning him that Sydney was only trying to wring him dry for all he was worth and wasn’t the kind of girl for someone like him.
However, upon hearing this, the former Bruce had taken it the wrong way.
Claiming, what Summer meant in essence was that he wasn’t good enough to be worthy of someone, right?
That the only worth he had was to be wrung dry like some fat, disgusting pig that he was, right?
But that wasn’t what she meant, and deep down, Bruce knew this as well.
Yet, hearing her refer to him as ’someone like you’ had hurt far more than he thought it ever would. Though not as much as how it felt after he stormed away from her in annoyance, immediately regretting his actions soon after cooling down a bit.
As he became aware that she had only meant, ’someone as kind as him.’
After all, she’d always liked that part of him ever since they were kids and had never been shy about repeatedly pointing it out to him in the past.
Now though, a rift had formed between them for nearly a month since they parted ways.
With neither of them taking the initiative to reach out to the other.
Ironically, upon gaining the system, Summer had been the first person the former Bruce thought about using it on.
However, lacking sufficient information regarding the system itself, he feared it might somehow cause her harm. As such, he didn’t want to risk using it on her.
Instead, he decided to try it on someone else first.
Only after confirming it was safe would he consider using it on her.
Though another reason for not approaching her was that he still secretly felt guilty for blaming Summer despite her only trying to help him out of the web he was currently entangled in.
Recalling all this as he briefly stared in a daze, Bruce cursed inwardly.
’Damn it, man! You just up and died, and now you expect me to clean up this mess for you as well? Come on...! Why do you keep making things difficult for me?’
Glancing at the system notification once more, he hesitated for a while. But recalling that his life was currently on the line and that he likely wouldn’t be able to find another suitable target he could casually talk with before time ran out, he sighed inwardly in defeat.
’Sorry, man. I know how much you care about her, but I can’t put my life on the line for someone I just met.’
Not to mention, Bruce doubted the system would cause any harm to the Targets, as it practically said ’Spoiling Beauties.’
So it was practically meant to pamper them.
But the former Bruce was likely too protective of her and didn’t want to take any chances unless he was certain it was safe.
With that, he mentally gave the command to click the yes icon hovering before him.

[The higher a Bonded Target’s Affinity Level towards Host, the more information on the target becomes available]
Surprised by the sight, Bruce hadn’t expected it to be this detailed.
Even the Affinity Level now had an image of a nearly half-filled heart glowing with a deep yellow colour, attached to it.
Meanwhile, the Beauty Rating now displayed four complete stars with one half-filled star attached to it, along with an additional plus icon.
Which, based on Bruce’s understanding, meant she could be rated even higher under more favourable conditions.
And looking at her, he couldn’t help but agree.
After all, she barely had any makeup on at the moment and was only dressed in a worker’s outfit with an apron on, yet her beauty still surpassed the system’s minimum requirements by far.
Long pink hair with faint bluish undertones draped down her slender shoulders.
A face card that was delicate, yet mesmerising to whoever was fortunate enough to gaze upon it.
Curves in all the right places, as well as the two weapons of mass destruction on her chest, still evident despite her baggy work clothes and apron, greatly contrasting her delicate facial features.
Adding a more ’mature’ look to her overall appearance.
For a brief moment, he finally understood why the former Bruce had fallen head over heels for her.
Noticing the awkward silence that had stretched on for a while now, Bruce wondered what could possibly be going through her mind that had made her remain quiet for so long.
And more importantly, how he could use this situation to increase her Affinity Level towards him.
