Chapter 13: No. 13: Rich Twerp
Upon reaching a more isolated part of the city, which resembled a park with its neatly trimmed greenery, Bruce eventually told Summer to wait there for him while he handled something.
Though she insisted on following him at first, after convincing her a few more times, he eventually added,
"Just wait here for a few minutes. I promise I’ll be right back."
Hearing this, Summer realized he had already made up his mind, so she decided to comply.
Taking a seat on one of the benches in the park, she watched as Bruce quickly went off to do whatever he had planned.
Well, as quickly as someone his size could, at least.
Waiting for a while, Summer couldn’t help but smile subconsciously as she wondered what he was up to, while deciding to eat some of the snacks she’d been "gifted" by the food vendors.
However, she soon paused as her eyes instinctively darted toward a certain direction. The gentle expression on her face faded soon after as she calmly inquired.
"Who’s there? There’s no point pretending. I know someone’s hiding there."
A brief silence passed for a couple of seconds...
Then the leaves of a tall trimmed hedge rustled as a figure casually stepped out.
"Was planning on it even if you hadn’t spoken. Just had to make sure you were the same one I saw earlier. I tend to mix women up sometimes."
Pausing, he looked Summer over once more. His eyes, displaying barely concealed lust, sized her up. Or rather, it wasn’t as though he was trying to hide it, as his eyes lingered on her chest longer than was considered appropriate.
"Then again, with a body like that, I doubt I’d mistake you for someone else."
Furrowing her brows slightly at the sight, Summer spoke, her voice gently piercing through the night, clearly irritated by his brazen attitude.
"Not interested."
The figure laughed, as he’d barely even explained why he was here, yet she’d already rejected him.
"Feisty, I see. I like that." Shrugging casually, he continued. "Anyways, I’ll get straight to the point. I like you. And I’m sure you’ll come to like me too. So why don’t we skip all the formalities and get to the good part, huh?"
As he spoke, the figure finally came fully into view beneath a floating, poleless lamppost.
His face was undeniably attractive, with well-defined features, a prominent jawline, and a confident smile that suggested he’d rarely, if ever, experienced rejection.
Standing nearly a full head taller than Summer despite her already impressive height of six-foot-one, he stood some distance from her. His build wasn’t overly bulky, nor was it skinny.
The muscles beneath his fitted turtleneck were clearly visible, making him look as though he’d been sculpted to perfection. The outfit itself seemed specifically chosen to emphasize his physique.
Unmoved by all of this, Summer’s expression barely changed as he came into view.
"Like I said earlier. Not interested."
Having grown up with looks like hers, it would’ve been impossible for Summer not to have been approached by guys before.
The number over the years was far beyond what she could remember. Some had even been more handsome than the one standing before her now.
All of them approaching her because of either her beauty or her ’assets.’
Yet she’d rejected every single one. Simply because she wasn’t interested in a relationship at the moment.
At least, not with any of them.
Mildly surprised she’d rejected him even after getting a proper look at him, the young man’s smile widened.
"Oh my. Now I’m even more interested in having you."
Looking around, he casually asked.
"Where’s that round friend of yours I saw earlier? I don’t see him anywhere." A smirk slowly formed on his face. "Oh, don’t tell me you’re actually going out with that fat pig? I guess women really will do anything for money."
Chuckling, he continued.
"Tell you what. I’ll pay you twice whatever that bastard’s paying. How about you spend the night with me instead?" His smirk widened. "That’s a much better offer than getting crushed by someone like that. Don’t you agree?"
Tapping the obsidian wristband on his arm, a holographic screen appeared. He clearly intended to prove he wasn’t all talk.
"Name your price. I’ll make sure it’s a night you’ll never forget."
Based on what he’d witnessed earlier when Summer was with Bruce, before eventually losing sight of them, the young man had arrived at his own conclusion.
Due to the numerous gift bags Summer had been carrying, coupled with the chemistry between the two despite Bruce’s appearance, it was easy for him to misinterpret it into something else.
A young woman being spoiled by her wealthy sugar daddy, before eventually getting down to business in a motel or so.
Either way, he’d concluded that if she was already willing to be with someone like that, then surely she’d prefer a richer and more handsome version if given the opportunity.
Hence his offer.
Irritated on hearing this, Summer subconsciously tightened her fist as she struggled to withstand her annoyance.
Other than the fact that he’d blatantly ridiculed Bruce, what had really grated on her beyond compare was the fact that he dared to mistake her for an escort despite just meeting her for the first time.
The pressure around them became somewhat heavy, as a shattering sound subtly reverberated in the night, followed by the air around her clenched fist visibly cracking, as though the air itself had turned to glass and shattered around her fist.
Slowly raising her head to look at the man who was still fiddling with his obsidian wristband, her eyes glowing with a sinister light as she glared at him, about to walk towards him, till...
A soft palm gently pressed against her shoulder, as a familiar voice travelled across the night, causing Summer to involuntarily lower her hostility a bit.
"Now that’s no way to talk to a lady you just met, is it, twerp?"
Hearing this, the young man’s eye subconsciously twitched as he looked at the one who had the nerve to call him such.
Now standing between Summer and the annoying prat, Bruce stood imposingly before the young man.
His massive frame towered over the young prat, a confident smirk rested on his face as he looked down at him.
