Chapter 77: Names

"Stay here and I’ll comeback looking for you. Archmage Arlen’s inheritance should be enough to strengthen your proficiency in rune mastery.

I hope you won’t disappoint me, as well."

Relay Master Cedric bowed deeply and shouted, "I won’t disappoint you, Sir Max!"

Max nodded in approval.

Sergeant Roland sensed that their conversation had concluded.

He said, "For now, you need to take a rest, Max. What you’ve gone through was definitely exhausting. Come, I’ve already prepared a lodge for you."

Sergeant Roland led Max to the lodge he had long prepared not only for him but to Archmage Arlen and Blade Saint Branna.

Since only Max had returned, the supposed lodging for Archmage Arlen became his.

Meanwhile, Max’s horses were sent to the stables and were taken care by veteran stablehands.

The horses willingly followed the soldier leading to the stables, while acting lofty and mighty.

They couldn’t wait to pridefully show the other horses their current state and experiences.

Max was now resting in the room. There were study desk, meditation array for mages, wardrobe, and many more that a mage like Archmage Arlen needed.

The space was vast enough for Max to summon his squad of knights.

He swept his gaze around the room and was assured that no Scout or higher rank could possibly be stalking him.

Even if they do, Max was unbothered his secrets would be exposed.

Only that, if possible, he wanted to hide the presence of Radiant Knights at all.

Max first summoned his Radiant Knights that has classes similar to human warrior path.

There were four of them. Two had Radiant Vanguard role, one Radiant Defender, and one Radiant Duelist.

Once they were summoned, they didn’t hesitate to drop their weapons to the floor and bowed in front of Max.

Wow, they’re huge...

The Radiant Vanguard in the far left had long white hair extending from her golden helmet, possessing a narrow T-shaped visor emitting faint golden light.

Max was aware there were no flesh like a human body inside the Radiant Knights. The armor was their body and inside simply consisted of mana.

She wore, like the other Radiant Vanguard, a heavy silver-gold plate armor with reinforced shoulder guards and layered chest plating.

She possessed a greatsword and was as tall at the other Radiant Vanguard.

The other Radiant Vanguard had similar armor and helmet like her, albeit he didn’t have a long hair, so he was definitely a male.

He possessed a greataxe.

Max asked them, "Can you elucidate me of your combat style?"

They replied simultaneously through mental communication as they didn’t possess a mouth, overwhelming Max.

He hastily stopped them and let the woman spoke instead, for her voice was actually warm and caring... like his mother from his memory.

"Our main purpose is to break the enemy’s formation. We lead charges and engage in most heavily defended positions."

Max nodded. He glanced at their status, specifically reading their skills.

Breaching Strike (A heavy attack designed to shatter defenses), Dawnbreaker (A powerful overhead attack that releases radiant force), Radiant Charge (A powerful overhead attack that releases radiant force), Relentless Advance (Reduces movement penalties while advancing), and Crusader’s Momentum (Damage increases while continuously attacking). They are indeed focused on breakthrough.

He turned towards the Radiant Knight beside them, a Radiant Defender. He wore the heaviest armor among the other knights as far as he remember.

He had two large tower shields dropped into the floor. Max estimated it to be at least six meters high and three meters thick each. He couldn’t calculate its weight, but it definitely seemed like a ton heavier.

The Radiant Defender’s armor was thick and covered with defensive runes. Max was familiar with runes because of Archmage Arlen, but the runes in front of him... 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂

Seemed ancient and immemorial.

Max sighed. If only Archmage Arlen is still here...

Max shook his head and regulated his emotion.

His past life was more brutal. He had to detach himself from others, except his younger brother to avoid a heartbreak of losing someone.

He distracted himself and focused on the Radiant Defender’s status, especially his skills.

Shield Wall (creating a defensive formation), Guardian Intercept (moves to protect allies), Bulwark Stance (increased defense), Radiant Barrier (a projection of small protective shield), and Fortress Discipline (reducing crowd-control effects). He’s really a walking fortress.

Max was in awe. He recalled how the Radiant Defender defended Ignaroth’s attack with his shields alone, protecting thirteen individual beside him.

He didn’t need to ask his combat style, knowing he was created to hold positions and absorbed enemy attacks. He prioritized protection over elimination.

He then focused at the Radiant Knight on his further right, the Radiant Duelist.

She wore a lightweight armor with reinforced joints. She has a curtain short white hair. Her eyes emitted brighter radiant energy.

She used a rapier.

Max asked her, "Can you elucidate me of your combat style?"

The Radiant Duelist replied, "I focused on eliminating enemies through precision combat."

Max nodded. He read her status and she was indeed almost like an assassin.

Flash Step (Rapid short-distance movement), Precision Cut (Targets weak points), Counter Slash (Responds immediately after blocking), Radiant Edge (Enhances weapon penetration), Duelist’s Focus (Increases combat efficiency against a single target). She’s powerful in targeting the backlines.

However, compared to a real assassin, she was far-off.

Max swept his gaze towards them and asked, "Do you all have memories?"

They were silent for a while until they simultaneously replied, "Barely."

Max’s eyes lit up.

He asked, "Do you all remember your names, then?"

"Names..." Their voice trailed off, trying to recall name.

Without even having to ask their Master what it was, they seemed to be aware what "name" was, allowing Max to conclude they indeed had a past life.

Suddenly, Radiant Defender said, "Hector..." his voice faltered.

The other Radiant Knights soon followed.

Helena for Radiant Vanguard female, Darius for Radiant Vanguard Male, and Fiora for Radiant Duelist.

Max confirmed his suspicions.

They became Radiant Knights and lost their memories, except their names...
