Chapter 64: Spell Recomposition

Max acted he didn’t spot them yet. He swept his gaze around and focused at the path.

He was relieved that the horses could run through without needing his instruction.

The horses were not trained for this situation, but Max’s instruction earlier made them learned how to navigate an easier path.

Max leaned backward and waited for the crucial moment to strike. 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺

Once the Ash Stalkers were halfway on their encirclement, he cast two Arcane Bolts in two seconds in total.

The Ash Stalkers taken by surprised. The two Arcane Bolts landed at one of the Ash Stalker.

One of the Arcane Bolt dealt with a critical strike and the other Arcane Bolt ended its life.

The Ash Stalkers slowed down their pace and glared at Max.

Max didn’t let them a chance to think. He cast two Arcane Bolts again and successfully ended another Ash Stalker’s life.

In every two seconds, he ended a life of an Ash Stalker.

The Ash Stalkers tried their best to evade, but Max’s Arcane Bolts were deadly precise. He predicted their subtle movements and always landed a critical strike.

His critical strike has a fifty percent chance to be triggered. His Arcane Bolt’s damage was also amplified from the effects of targeting a demon entity.

In other words, instead of being their prey, Max was actually their predator.

The Ash Stalkers refused to acknowledge the current situation and became restless.

As Max continued to take a life of their kin in every two seconds, they didn’t hesitate to execute their main ability—Shadow Ember Step, a short-range teleportation.

They could only execute it in every three seconds and the distance they could cross was five meters.

Unfortunately, they were fifteen meters away from Max.

Nine seconds passed, only five Ash Stalkers remained but they were closer at Max.

Max still had more than enough mana points to take them out, but he was already surrounded. The Ash Stalker summoned their cold weapons and were ready to cut him.

Suddenly, Max grinned.

He raised his staff and above its tip was what he silently cast a Mana Pulse in 0.85 seconds.

A high-density shockwave made out of mana exploded from the tip of his staff. It recognized a friend and foe, including the two horses.

The Ash Stalkers instantly bore the impact of the attack and they were smashed away.

Their health bar instantly halved. Just as they were about to land, another Mana Pulse exploded, ending their life.

Max heard a series of notifications.

[You have killed a C-Rank Demon—Ash Stalker.

You have gained 750 EXP.

You leveled up.

You have gained one Free Stat Point.]

It took him three Ash Stalkers to level up.

He was glad that he was now Level 80.

[After reaching Level 80, you have gained another milestone bonus of your Demon Investigator Set equipment.

You have gained a +8% Spell Penetration (Demon-type Entities).]

Just in time! Max was elated.

After killing 30 Ash Stalkers at C-rank, he gained confidence. He grabbed the rein and turned the horses around, determined to aid Archmage Arlen and Blade Saint Branna to defeat the Greater Demon.

He believed that so long as they had someone capable of exterminating C-Rank and below, amassing EXP points in the process, Max believed they could concentrate on killing the Greater Demon.

Just as the horses turned around, a run stuck on their butt glowed.

The horses suddenly reversed and galloped forward, faster than before.

Max was stunned. He instantly knew that the horses were running without their volition.

Max felt like crying.

My EXP...

Max clucked his tongue in annoyance. I can just run away when they are about to die. I just want to earn more EXP.

As Max was lost in thoughts, spaces in his surroundings, at least twenty meters away from him, began to fluctuate.

A space rift emerged and demonic creatures appeared. The space rift was only at human size and lasted for a second before closing.

Max furrowed his eyebrows. The Rift Walkers.

RIft Walkers were at high C-Rank demons, far stronger than the Ash Stalkers. Aside from their ability to tear a space and teleport across kilometer distances, they were exceptionally agile and strong.

They were slender and only had one large eye. Their elongated limbs were their main weapon, while their long dagger being their secondary weapons.

They fought in a rather bizarre manner, aiming to confuse their enemies from their movements first before killing them.

There were, at least, ten space rifts emerging.

Just as the Rift Walkers fully appeared and left the space rifts, Max instantly cast Arcane Bolts. To his surprise, he needed three Arcane Bolts to kill them.

Max gritted his teeth and manifested an Advanced Mana Potion.

[Mana Potion (Advanced) — restores large mana reserves.

Effect: +200 MP instantly.

Side Effects: Mana overload (unstable casting) for 5 seconds.]

Max didn’t consume the Advanced Mana Potion yet, he observed and depleted his mana first.

After killing two Rift Walkers and concluded that the Rift Walkers couldn’t catch up to them for five seconds, he consumed the Mana Potion.

His body were shocked by the enormous amount of mana being absorbed by his body and mana core. It was not surprising he couldn’t cast, lest he’d disturb the process and fell into mana deviation.

For five seconds, he grabbed the rein and stored his staff and off-hand equipment and flicked them hard, causing the horses to advance faster.

The other horse slowed down and followed behind, knowing that only by doing so meant following the guidance of Max.

Once five seconds had passed, Max straightened his back and summoned his offensive equipment.

The Rift Walkers were now five meters closer at him. Their elongated limbs were three meters in length.

Max’s eyes flashed. He swung his staff backward and cast a Mana Pulse.

The Rift Walkers were wary. Before the Mana Pulse could explode, they began to slow down.

However, the Mana Pulse, being an incomplete spell was suddenly dismantled and reconstructed into another spell without mana loss or casting interruption.

It was flawless.

Max had transformed Mana Pulse into Arcane Bolt with a wide grin on his face.
