Chapter 266: Chapter 160: Source of the Zerg Race’s Mental Realm, The Battle to Reclaim (Part 3)

As the grueling battle dragged on...

Finally, at four o’clock in the afternoon, an hour after the fighting had erupted, the soldiers breathed in the battlefield air, thick with the stench of gunpowder and the pungent tang of Zerg blood. They watched as the Swarm scattered and fled, their ranks completely broken.

Many battle-hardened veterans wore puzzled expressions.

In the dozen or so battles they had experienced, such a large-scale rout had never occurred.

Even on the few occasions they had beaten the Swarm back under the Sergeant Major’s lead, the Alien Zerg Race’s retreat had always been extremely orderly.

They would even organize effective fighting forces to counter-attack and encircle the pursuing humans.

This was a situation that had never been seen on a human battlefield.

And according to the high-ranking officers in their ranks, the Low-tier Zerg Swarm had no self-awareness; like robots, they were all controlled by the Zerg Race’s High-tier Mother Empress...

But the current rout, with the Swarm fleeing in panic, crushing and jamming the street exits, suggested something else.

It led the veterans to a single conclusion.

"Could it be? Did the Sergeant Major and his team win?!"

"That’s right, the Sergeant Major did it! Maybe he defeated the Zerg Race Mother Empress, or maybe he just drove them off..."

"Whatever the case, this small county town has been successfully reclaimed!"

A few squad captains gathered, piecing together the truth behind the Swarm’s rout in a few brief sentences. They were overjoyed, their hearts soaring with excitement.

After all, this was the first time humanity had ever seized territory back from the Zerg Race and reclaimed an entire city!

Even if it was just a small county town,

the significance was extraordinary.

Even on the main defensive front of Wu City, they could only clear the Zerg Race’s surface Wormholes and slow their expansion. They were unable to venture deep Underground to completely expel the entire Swarm.

Yet today, under the leadership of the newly formed Tier Two Corps squad, they had managed to reclaim a city in less than half a day of fighting.

The Sergeant Major’s power,

once again filled everyone with reverence.

It also made them yearn to become a member of the Tier Two Corps.

A short while later, a faint tremor ran through the ground. At the mouth of the Wormhole, guarded to the death by seven hundred Warriors, the victorious Tier Two Corps appeared.

When Liu Yi and the others emerged at the entrance, their Red-Orange Battle Armor caked in Zerg gore and blood, emanating an astonishingly sharp killing aura...

Hundreds of Warriors descended from the surrounding high-rises to welcome their heroes.

Liu Yi looked up, wiping the thick Zerg blood from his Face Armor’s visor to gaze at the Sun.

The warmth of the sunlight fell upon his face.

An unprecedented longing rose within him, a desire to simply bathe in the warmth of the sun.

The darkness and danger of the Underground Hive had been suffocating, every moment an agonizing ordeal.

On the way back, the team was naturally harassed by Tier Two Tiger Spine Zergs. Although they were no longer under the Node Mother’s direct control, their previous orders remained active. Besides, with the hive invaded by outsiders, killing enemies was the very reason for the existence of Tiger Spine Zergs, a type of Advanced Soldier Zerg.

During the 300-meter ascent, the seven Tier Two Awakeners encountered three squads of Tiger Spine Zergs, ten in total.

They ultimately used their Shotguns to heavily wound them from a distance before finishing them off in close combat with their fists and feet.

By now, all of them had advanced to the Tier Two Late Stage, and the quicker ones had even reached Lv. 29. With the Power in their fists and feet alone reaching eighty to ninety tons, killing Middle and Early Stage Tier Two Tiger Spine Zergs in close combat was a trivial matter.

Lin Feng did not intervene during the entire fight.

For one, he wanted to train these new members of the Tier Two Corps. For another, some things had to be earned with one’s own hands.

Afterward, Lin Feng used seven of the Tiger Spine Zerg Giant Mandibles as a reward to help the seven members Upgrade their Red Profound Armor to Red Tiger Armor. Aside from lacking a Flight Mode, it was nearly identical to the Flying Tiger Armor.

From now on, when encountering Tiger Spine Zergs in close quarters, the team members equipped with the Red Tiger Armor would no longer fear close combat—they would even crave it!

All that was missing now was Ding Fatty’s Tiger-toothed Chainsaw Sword, and the Tier Two Corps Lin Feng had envisioned...

would be complete.

Tier Two Awakening Power, combined with the Defense of the Tiger Armor, equipped with Shotguns for ranged suppression, and the Tiger-toothed Chainsaw Sword for close combat.

A team like that would be an unstoppable force, cutting down any Zerg in their path, even deep within an Underground Hive.

But for now, the Corps members, having had their first taste of the dangers Underground, just wanted to stay in the sunlight and feel a part of the normal world for a little while longer.

Meanwhile, amidst the cheers, the hundreds of Warriors witnessed an utterly unbelievable sight:

Following behind the Corps squad was a countless Red-Armored Beetle Swarm, and on their backs...

...they were carrying piles of glistening white Tier Two Zerg Eggs!

Many of the soldiers instinctively raised their guns to take aim. Fortunately, Liu Yi had already retracted his Face Armor. Seeing their tense expressions,

he hurriedly shouted:

"Lower your weapons! They are not enemies!"

Even as he said it, Liu Yi himself found it unbelievable.

But their experience in the Underground Hive had been a hundred times more bizarre than the scene before them now.

And all they could do...

...was believe.

Believe in the bizarre things they had witnessed, believe in all of it, believe that they were still alive...

And, unconditionally, believe in the Sergeant Major.
