Chapter 251: Chapter 155: Sneaking Underground, a Bizarre Journey to the Hive
The Zerg Race will continue to expand until every last member of an enemy race is dead!
’In the future, if I want to hold a piece of territory and face the Zerg Race in a decisive battle, I’ll need at least a hundred thousand Awakeners to completely suppress a Tier Three Mid-stage Mother Empress within a single day.’
They would have to destroy their Underground Hive.
That would deny them any chance to catch their breath and spawn more troops!
In a war of attrition, humanity, unable to mass-produce its forces, would always be doomed to fail.
But with only five thousand Warriors and a few hundred Awakeners on hand, Lin Feng could only use his fleet’s high mobility to conduct guerilla raids on the periphery.
In other words, until he could train all five thousand Warriors to become Tier One Awakeners, Lin Feng still lacked the ability to face a Tier Three Early-stage Mother Empress in a decisive battle.
He also needed to form a well-equipped Tier Two Corps to assist him in storming the Underground Hive.
And the final condition was that Lin Feng himself needed the ability to kill a High-tier Mother Empress with over ten thousand Life Value in under ten seconds!
These three things needed to be accomplished simultaneously...
Not a single one could be missing.
At this thought, Lin Feng’s gaze grew increasingly fierce as he stared at the Tier Two Tiger Spine Zerg Swarm not far ahead.
Ling Yi, sensing something, immediately turned around. She placed a finger to her lips, made a shushing sound, and shook her head.
"Don’t release your killing intent. You’ve already frightened the nearby Red-Armored Beetles. The Swarm in the Hive is extremely sensitive to that kind of aura."
Lin Feng nodded and took a deep breath, forcing himself to calm down.
The nearby Red-Armored Beetle Swarm, acting as Worker Zergs, was their best camouflage. He couldn’t afford to scare them off.
Soon, the Tiger Spine Zerg Swarm ahead came to a halt again, meaning they were passing another Second-Level Hive.
The group stopped as well, waiting patiently.
This time, after the zergs finished communicating and left, Ling Yi also kept moving, leading the group in a low crouch as they carefully passed the entrance to the Hive.
However, most of the Red-Armored Beetle Swarm near the team began to crawl into the Hive entrance behind them.
Lin Feng frowned slightly. ’The mass departure of the Red-Armored Beetles isn’t a good sign.’
Ling Yi immediately explained in a low voice:
"In there is a Nest for recycling scrapped biomass. It’s where the Zerg Race drags the bodies of their fallen comrades to be processed."
"Those that are still valuable are repaired and returned. The worthless ones are broken down into nutrients to supply the entire Swarm."
"It’s recycling, to reduce losses."
At this point, Ling Yi stopped. She looked at the few large Red-Armored Beetles around her, then lifted her head and sniffed the air, her expression growing grave.
"It looks like the path past the downward-sloping Wormhole ahead most likely leads to a Tier Two Hatching Nest."
"These Red-Armored Beetles are all transporting food. Every one of them carries the scent of the lower-level Nest. If we go any further, we’ll be easily discovered."
Lin Feng stood behind her, waiting for her to continue.
’We’re already three hundred meters deep Underground. The target’s almost in sight. There’s absolutely no reason to retreat.’
’Even if we’re exposed in these last few dozen meters, we have to fight our way in!’
But Ling Yi quickly offered a solution.
She took a deep breath, then reached out her hand toward a nearby Lv9 Red Armor.
Under her Spirit Manipulation, these large Red-Armored Beetles obediently walked over and spat out a portion of the gel-like substance from their abdomens.
Ling Yi reached down, scooped up the viscous fluid from the ground, and gently smeared it on her arms and neck.
She explained as she did so:
"This is Nutrient Liquid refined from surface-dwelling species. It’s similar to what’s inside Tier Two Zerg Eggs."
"It’s food used to feed the Mother Empress. The Tiger Spine Zergs usually sneak some for themselves."
"And because the biological populations in each region are different, the final concentrated, high-grade Nutrient Liquid has subtle differences in taste and smell."
"This has become a distinguishing characteristic between different Zerg Race colonies, preventing foreign Tier Two Zerg Race from infiltrating and parasitizing them."
"In the Hives further down, Red-Armored Beetles are scarce, and the air is filled with the smell of this food."
"It’s disgusting, but this stuff can help us hide very effectively."
"What are you staring at? Get over here and put on a lot. You humans..."
"Uh, you men have a strong scent from your sweat glands. You especially need to apply more."
This scene was beyond the squad’s comprehension. They all turned to look at their leader, Lin Feng.
Lin Feng opened his Face Armor and sniffed. He confirmed a faint scent of rice, which he guessed had something to do with the large agricultural regions North of the River...
He then walked over to Ling Yi and began smearing the Nutrient Liquid on his Battle Armor.
Shen Jie was the second to step forward. He didn’t seem to mind at all and eagerly tasted some.
He smacked his lips and nodded.
"That’s right, this stuff is almost like Organic Nutrient Liquid."
"But it also contains trace toxins from the Zerg Race. Normal people can’t eat much of it, and even Awakeners shouldn’t eat too much, or they’ll get an upset stomach."
Hearing the first part, the other squad members’ faces lit up with joy, but Shen Jie’s addendum quickly snuffed out their eager anticipation.
They thought they had struck gold, but it turned out to be poisonous.
Lin Feng coughed lightly.
"Alright, don’t get greedy over this stuff."
"Once we find the Hatching Nest with the Tier Two Zerg Eggs, I’ll let you drink your fill in one go!"
"Now, focus! We can’t afford a single slip-up on this final stretch!"
The squad immediately nodded and acknowledged the order.
They then smeared the viscous fluid spat out by the Red-Armored Beetles all over their Full Body Armor.
Soon, under Ling Yi’s guidance, the group blended in behind the Red-Armored Beetles, crawling down the slope and carefully feeling their way forward.
Before long, the slope beneath them began to level out. They had now descended to a depth of three hundred and fifty meters.
And here, traces of the long-awaited Tier Two Hive finally appeared.
Because not far away...
...next to the Tier Two Tiger Spine Zerg Swarm, several Red-Armored Beetles were carrying massive Zerg Eggs into a Tier Two Hive entrance on the left side of the cavern wall!
And inside there was undoubtedly the crucial site for hatching the Tier Two Zerg Eggs!
Lin Feng clenched his fist, making a hand signal.
He was telling everyone to prepare for action!
