Chapter 167: Chapter 128: Level 29 Electromagnetic Cannon, Personal Upgrade
A notification appeared before him. Seeing no timed options with Extra Attributes, Lin Feng set it aside and continued dealing with internal team issues.
"This must be kept secret. Shen Jie’s and the others’ Devouring Assimilation Superpower cannot be leaked, especially not the part involving the Zerg Race Mother Empress."
"Right now, only we and you know."
Lin Feng looked at the tense man.
Having calmed down, Li Ran took several deep breaths, trying to get his brain working again.
The pistol tucked into his waistband wasn’t actually for fighting back. It was to fire a warning shot before he killed himself.
That way, the soldiers who came running at the sound of the shot would realize the danger in the camp. Combined with his interrogation of the wounded, the seeds of suspicion had already been planted. Even if he couldn’t expose the truth of Lin Feng being parasitized and replaced, there was no way he would let these few "bugs" easily take control of the Awakener team.
But what Lin Feng was saying now made Li Ran’s head spin.
’If Shen Jie and the other man really had awakened a special Superpower like a Genetic Warrior, allowing them to sniff out the presence of the Zerg Race just like Qin Hu...’
’...wouldn’t that mean Lin Feng wasn’t actually being parasitized and controlled by the Jia City Mother Empress?’
’That his talk of surrender and reparations was actually true?’
Li Ran’s brow furrowed even deeper. The way things were developing just didn’t quite add up.
’Either everyone here is lying, or Lin Feng deliberately hid something during the previous meeting.’
Taking a deep breath, Li Ran spoke.
"I only want to confirm two things."
"First, are you still human?"
"Second, after ingesting the so-called Tier Two Zerg Eggs, is there really an Assimilation effect on Awakeners?"
Lin Feng shrugged.
"Of course. Of course we’re human. Don’t be fooled by their Assimilation Form after they activate their Superpowers. They might look like human-sized members of the Alien Zerg Race, but as long as they still identify as human, then they are human."
"And remember, this absolutely cannot be leaked."
"We operate on the front lines for long periods. We can’t carry medical instruments and equipment with us, so we have to rely on their Superpowers to root out any Zerg Race spies hidden in our ranks."
"As for the second thing..."
"There’s no effect. Tier Two Zerg Eggs are incredibly valuable. They might be a bit too nutritious for ordinary people, but for Awakeners—especially Tier One Awakeners—this stuff is extremely useful. It doesn’t just solve our logistical problems."
"Most importantly, it helps you upgrade your Awakening after you’ve made a kill."
Lin Feng glanced back at the woman behind him.
"She’s the one who killed the last one. In an hour or two, we’ll get to witness the birth of another Tier Two Awakener on the team, besides me and Shen Jie."
Receiving Lin Feng’s meaningful glance, Chen Yanyan patted her man’s shoulder and then boarded the Land Patrol Battleship.
Lin Feng added,
"Before you start your Tier Two Awakening, remember to drink some of the Organic Nutrient Liquid from the Tier Two Zerg Eggs. It might have a miraculous effect."
Chen Yanyan waved, signaling that she understood.
Lin Feng then turned back and continued,
"That is the true value of the Tier Two Zerg Eggs."
"All the Zerg Race Mother Empresses invading the world’s coastlines are not of one mind. To evolve, become stronger, and reach a higher level, they too will stop at nothing..."
"These precious Tier Two Zerg Eggs are the Jia City Mother Empress’s show of sincerity to me. Sincerity for our cooperation."
After sensing the extraordinary aura radiating from Chen Yanyan, Li Ran was already wavering. But now, with the truth Lin Feng revealed and his final, emphasized tone, it all clicked into place in an instant.
"That Mother Empress in Jia City... it wants you to turn around and deal with the one that landed in Hai City!?"
"Because its power is already threatening the Jia City Mother Empress’s own invasion!"
The corners of Lin Feng’s mouth lifted, and he snapped his fingers.
"Exactly! Our strength may not be at the point where we can completely annihilate a Tier Three Mother Empress, but slowing down its invasion rhythm is exceptionally easy for us."
"Constant harassment day and night, killing all the Zerg that surface... no matter which Mother Empress it is, none of them can withstand that."
"Oh, right. There’s one more thing..."
Li Ran was already in a daze. The things Lin Feng was saying had far exceeded his understanding and expectations.
But as the other man’s topic shifted, Li Ran quickly snapped back to his senses, waiting quietly for what was next.
A grave expression appeared on Lin Feng’s face as he stared at Li Ran.
The reason he had gone to such great lengths to call him over, to personally explain and reveal the current situation, wasn’t just to resolve potential conflicts within the team. There was another important reason...
He needed a channel to convey what was about to happen to the Thirteenth Division.
Namely, that after breaking through the first line of defense, the Hai City Mother Empress had very likely already entered the Tier Three Middle Stage. The second line of defense could not possibly hold for more than three days as originally planned.
They needed to be prepared for the reality of the situation.
If the situation deteriorated to an irreversible point, they should withdraw from the second line of defense immediately to avoid a repeat of the tragedy at the first...
...and allow the Hai City Mother Empress’s power to grow even further.
So when Lin Feng laid out the possibility, using the signal interference currently happening at the Taihu Lake Service Area as anecdotal evidence...
...it quickly made Li Ran understand that the truly dangerous situation right now was on the main battlefield.
"The Jia City Mother Empress hasn’t been blocked by the military, and its strength is only mid-tier among the Mother Empresses. For the Southern Federation, the real threat comes from the Hai City Mother Empress."
Li Ran took a deep breath. The conversation, which had lasted only a few short minutes, was so shocking it was like his entire worldview had been rebuilt. But he was very clear on what he had to do now.
"When are we setting out to return to the main battlefield?"
Lin Feng smiled and pointed to the battleship behind him.
"Around four or five in the afternoon. We’ll use the limited visibility at dusk to catch the Zerg Race off guard."
