Chapter 235: Divide and Conquer
Ivor naturally noticed the shadowy figures moving in the distance. His face turned slightly cold.
"Who’s there? What are you sneaking around for? Show yourselves!"
As he spoke, there were faint laughter coming from the darkness.
"You ask us to come out, and we should just obey? Who do you think you are? Just because you’re Waldo’s most loyal lackey? Hahaha!"
"Heh, if you’re a man, come out and talk. What’s hiding in the dark?"
Ivor said coldly, "A first-level ticket isn’t something you clowns can touch! Leave now, even if you get the ticket, you won’t live to see the next day. Don’t bring trouble upon yourselves!"
"Heh heh, how do you know we can’t handle it if you don’t give it a try?"
In the darkness, figures moved, and more and more people seemed to be lurking in the shadows. At least twenty to thirty individuals were hiding in the dark, observing the situation.
This undoubtedly brought significant pressure to Ivor. Just then, a faint sound of breaking air reached his ears. Ivor’s face changed instantly.
"Not good! Someone’s attacking!"
Ivor quickly warned everyone. Before he could finish speaking, a short arrow shot out from the darkness, heading straight for Ivor’s position. Ivor swiftly rolled to the side, narrowly avoiding the arrow.
Then, from the darkness, several figures rushed towards them at high speed. Simultaneously, they threw grenades and opened fire with rifles, spewing flames into the air!
"Take cover!" Ivor yelled as he sought shelter.
Boom! Grenades exploded, the deafening noise echoing around them. Ivor remained remarkably composed and fired two shots in quick succession, accurately hitting two of their attackers.
There were only four or five people involved in this ambush. Although they initiated the attack, Ivor and his group were already prepared, so there were no casualties. After surviving the first wave of firepower, they quickly counterattacked.
With more than ten people against four or five, the outcome was quite evident. The attackers soon fled in disarray.
"Wait, you think it’s going to end so easily? Haha, you’re dreaming! Just wait, the real show is yet to come!" one of the attackers angrily taunted before departing.
"Get lost! Don’t let me catch you, or I’ll skin you alive!" Ivor fearlessly responded.
"Wait and see. It won’t be long before all of you pay the price!" the person sneered.
Soon, their figure disappeared entirely, seemingly afraid that Ivor might pursue and eliminate them.
This sudden skirmish had come and gone quickly, ending within a very short time. However, Ivor didn’t let his guard down in the least.
Because he was well aware that more people were lurking in the darkness, observing them. Once they let their guard down, those people would pounce on them like hungry wolves. A first-class ticket was just too tempting!
But at that moment, Ivor’s face suddenly changed drastically.
"Where’s the ticket chest? Why is it gone?!" Just moments ago, Ivor had noticed where the ticket was. Now it had disappeared!
In an instant, Ivor’s face went deathly pale.
"Who took the ticket? No, wait! Someone stole the first-level ticket chest when no one was paying attention!"
"When did this happen?" Ivor became extremely calm at that moment.
Soon, he figured it out. The sudden attack had been nothing but a diversion. There was actually a much larger conspiracy at play. Someone had planned all of this.
First, those attackers had drawn Ivor and the others’ attention, disrupting their positions. Then, individuals with hidden abilities had been sent in to steal the ticket while they were distracted.
"Heh, is that all you’ve got? You’ve underestimated me, Ivor!"
Ivor sneered.
Ability: True Sight!
Ivor immediately activated his own ability. With True Sight, he could see things that others hadn’t seen or noticed.
Next, Ivor’s eyes immediately turned deep, and within the depths of his pupils, there seemed to be countless intricate runes and inscriptions. Soon, a figure appeared in his field of vision.
It was a slender survivor wearing unique clothing, carefully sneaking away. The attire he wore was quite unusual, seemingly crafted by his own ability to grant him invisibility. He appeared to be afraid of being noticed, moving very slowly to avoid making noise.
However, he had the misfortune of being spotted by Ivor at first glance.
"You’re asking for death! Leave the ticket behind!" Ivor shouted angrily, startling the person. Ivor showed no mercy.
Before the words even fully left his mouth, he swiftly retrieved a machine gun and opened fire directly at the person.
The individual, still in a state of invisibility, hadn’t expected Ivor to detect him. Initially, he thought Ivor was just bluffing and paid little attention. Little did he know that Ivor would open fire in the next moment.
Rat-tat-tat!
The flames erupted, and the person let out a miserable scream. His eyes widened, dying a gruesome death.
It was worth noting that his ability had never failed before, and hardly anyone could detect him. Even within the Tiger’s Roar Gang, Osmond couldn’t discover his presence immediately. Yet, he was easily spotted by an unknown soldier?
"Hmph! Daring to touch what Waldo wants, you’re courting death!" Ivor snorted.
Then, he searched the person for experience points and checked his personal backpack. Within it, he found the first-class ticket chest.
"No one can take this ticket from me!" Ivor said coldly.
Then he glanced at the other hidden figures in the darkness. His eyes were filled with indifference.
"Speak louder," he coldly continued, "If you want to get this ticket from me, you’ll have to step over my dead body! You bunch of clowns think you deserve a first-level ticket? You must be dreaming!"
This mockery seemed to strike a nerve with someone in the darkness, and a cold snort was heard. Another voice chimed in, "Only because you have Waldo as your backer can you act so arrogantly. Riding on someone else’s coattails. Don’t forget how much of a coward you were just a day ago!"
Another voice followed, "Let’s see how long you can keep being arrogant. Waldo’s reach is extending too far. The true master of City 28 is Osmond! If you dare to oppose Osmond, you’ll have only one way to go—straight to your death!"
Hearing these words, Ivor’s face turned quite ugly. They were speaking the truth. However, so what? This was a different time, and he had Waldo backing him. Who else did he need to fear?
Ivor replied coldly, "Say whatever you want. I’ll say it one more time. Anyone who wants to steal Waldo’s ticket will have to step over my dead body. Otherwise, it’s a no-go!"
Laughter and mocking voices filled the darkness.
"Isn’t this the same Ivor who used to be such a coward?"
"Look at him, trying to act tough now. I’m so scared!"
In the darkness, there was an onslaught of mockery. However, these people remained hidden. They dared not reveal themselves, fearing that Ivor would remember them.
If Waldo decided to take action, none of them would escape. Ivor remained silent, his face as dark as the night, trying his best to control his emotions.
