Chapter 227: Hanging by a thread

Just as Waldo was slaying the Level 5 Zombie Lord, Binder and the other survivors defending the bridge faced an incredibly challenging situation.

It had all started an hour ago when the zombies went berserk, attacking them relentlessly. These undead creatures seemed to be in a frenzy, showing no fear of the overwhelming firepower the survivors had. They swarmed towards the bridge as if possessed.

Roar!

Suddenly, a deafening sound echoed through the area. At that moment, every survivor felt a chill down their spine because the sound was truly spine-chilling.

This sound brought to mind a terrifying and mysterious figure—a Level 5 Zombie Lord. This figure was responsible for the overnight transformation of West City and the current crisis.

Many people present there had vivid memories of that day and would never forget it. It was the voice of the Zombie Lord, the one that had controlled all the zombies in West City that day, leading to chaos and the darkest day they had ever experienced.

"It’s the Zombie Lord’s voice!"

"Yes, you’re right. I recognized it too!" 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂

"That day, it first appeared, and all the zombies in West City came under its control. After that, West City fell into chaos. It was the darkest day for us."

"Damn it! It’s back! What does it want? Is it planning to launch a full-scale attack on us, or is there some other reason?"

"We’re not sure, but we need to be prepared just in case."

"Up to this point, I can only hope that Waldo can resolve the Zombie Lord issue as soon as possible."

"Sigh, right now, we can only rely on Waldo."

At this moment, the survivors guarding the three bridges had pale faces and were discussing the situation intensely. They had no idea that Waldo had already entered West City because they needed to remain vigilant at all times to avoid any surprise attacks by the zombies. The consequences of letting their guard down would be dire. Binder was among them.

At that moment, Binder was in the midst of discussing his opinions with his companions, focusing on whether Waldo could handle the Zombie Lord.

Just as Binder was about to speak, he seemed to sense something and looked into the distance. His face immediately changed, and so did everyone else’s.

"Get ready for combat! The zombies are coming! Open fire!"

A deafening roar echoed from the distance, and a horde of terrifying zombies, countless in number, could be seen in the distance. They were roaring and howling, appearing frenzied as they surged onto the bridge, sprinting towards the survivors.

"Open fire!"

In that moment, everyone finally realized the truth. The earlier roar had actually been an order issued by the Zombie Lord to attack. As a result, all the zombies gathered on the riverbank rushed towards them without hesitation.

If they hadn’t been prepared in advance, the zombie army would have broken through their defenses in a matter of moments.

The Zombie Lord possessed an incredibly powerful ability to command thousands of zombies to sacrifice themselves for its cause. If left unchecked, the survival of the survivors would become extremely difficult.

At that moment, many people had this thought in their minds. They gritted their teeth and opened fire on the approaching zombies.

Machine guns, cannons, and bombs—all were unleashed with full force.

This battle was larger in scale and more brutal than any previous one, primarily due to the sheer number of zombies.

The zombies at the front had just fallen, and more zombies were quickly taking their place, trampling over the corpses of their fallen comrades. The survivors’ firepower struggled to halt the advance of so many zombies.

Someone was cornered by a nimble Level 3 zombie, and their head was twisted off in a gruesome manner. The decapitated head, with eyes filled with despair and disbelief, served as a gruesome testament to the brutality of the situation.

"Die!" Binder roared and fired a cannon shell, blowing the Level 3 zombie to pieces. The ensuing battle escalated into unprecedented brutality. Dozens of people died in an instant, and it was only the beginning.

What filled them with despair was the increasing number of zombies gathering on the other side of the bridge, accompanied by a significant presence of Level 3 zombies. The pressure on the survivors continued to mount.

"What’s going on? What happened in West City? Why did the Zombie Lord suddenly order such a massive attack? Is the Zombie Lord insane? Wasn’t it supposed to be as intelligent as humans? Doesn’t it realize that this will lead to mutually assured destruction?"

"I can’t accept this! I really can’t accept it! Why, why?!"

"Damn zombies! Damn Zombie Lord! Waldo, please save us!"

At this moment, not only Binder’s group defending the Overlook Bridge but also the survivors on the other two bridges were under tremendous pressure. Faced with an overwhelming horde of zombies, many were on the brink of despair.

If things continued like this, they would run out of ammunition very soon, and even with ample supplies, it would be extremely difficult to hold out. There were simply too many zombies.

At this point, everyone was not far from utter despair, and some had already broken down, crying out in anguish.

And at this very moment, in the chat channel, many people had taken notice of the intense battles erupting on the three bridges.

"What’s going on? Why have the zombies in West City gone berserk?"

"Not sure, but it’s definitely related to the Zombie Lord in West City."

"Wow, you look so smart. Isn’t this something even a fool would know? Do you really need to say it?"

"According to reliable sources, not long ago today, someone spotted Waldo’s trail. They witnessed Waldo entering West City, and it’s clear what his purpose is!"

"Without a doubt, Waldo went to West City with the goal of dealing with that Zombie Lord! But judging by the current situation, it’s hard to predict the outcome."

At this point, many in the comments fell silent. From the current situation, it seemed that the Zombie Lord was still alive and not only that, but it had also issued orders for all the zombies to launch an attack, placing the survivors guarding the three bridges in an incredibly challenging situation.

As for Waldo, who set out to find the Zombie Lord, his chances of success appeared bleak.

Someone cautiously asked, "Do you think something might have happened to Waldo?"

"It’s hard to say."

"Regardless, I believe in Waldo. I trust that Waldo won’t come to harm! Let’s wait!"
