Chapter 69: Chapter 69: Thanks for Playing

"We can’t beat them." Daryl Donovan calmed down, his reason gradually returning. A moment ago, he had been completely mesmerized.

He was only thinking about how many supplies and how much good food the lottery shop and convenience store had, enough for his brothers to have a feast...

But he’d forgotten the fundamental difference in strength. He couldn’t even beat Frost Shaw alone.

They might have a chance if all the superpower users from his base attacked together, but Daryl Donovan was absolutely unwilling to risk so many of his brothers and sisters.

"Are we just going to give up?" Daryl Donovan asked, unwilling to accept it.

Damon Donovan punched him. "We never even had a plan to attack! What’s there to give up? What we want is cooperation!"

Daryl Donovan was a little aggrieved. "What’d you hit me for? Jeez, I’ll listen to you, alright!"

"Fine!" Damon Donovan didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.

The two of them hunkered down on the rooftop, letting the hot wind blow over them as they continued to observe the RV.

"It’s only seven, and they’re already getting ready to close up?" Damon Donovan looked at the suddenly dwindling number of customers in front of the RV, then glanced at the time.

Daryl Donovan also craned his neck to look. "Yeah, they’re so casual about doing business. If it were me, I’d be open 24/7!"

Damon Donovan shot him a look.

"Let’s go. We’ll buy a few to scratch," Damon Donovan said, getting up. The two went downstairs together.

By the time they reached the RV, only a few reluctant customers were still scratching their tickets. Lily Hart glanced at Damon Donovan.

’Heh, you little punk. I’ve already figured you out,’ she thought to herself.

The two didn’t approach directly but waited off to the side until all the other customers had left.

Only then did they step forward. Damon Donovan said, "Boss, we’ll take all the remaining ones."

Lily Hart replied cheerfully, "You got it." Diana Sharp and Tina Jacobs, quick on the uptake, gathered all the scratch-off tickets from the displays.

They stacked them together and handed them to Lily Hart. A quick glance showed there were about ten or twenty tickets.

She counted them—twenty-two in total—and told the two the number. Daryl Donovan was in charge of paying with the Crystal Cores.

The two took the tickets and were about to leave, but after a few steps, they turned back. Lily Hart instinctively grew wary.

"We’d like to scratch them here," Damon Donovan said. It would save them the trouble of coming back and forth if they won a prize.

"Be my guest," Lily Hart said, raising an eyebrow. ’I’d like to see what these two are really up to!’

There were a few tables and chairs in front of the RV for customers to use. The two sat down at the nearest one and started scratching.

Twenty-two tickets wasn’t a huge amount, but it wasn’t a small one either. The two of them scratched for about five minutes.

But the atmosphere was a bit down. Even Lily Hart, who was busy thinking about what to eat for dinner, could feel it. She figured they’d been hit by a barrage of "Thanks for playing."

Lily Hart couldn’t be bothered with them. With leftover scratch-off tickets, there were only two possibilities: a grand prize or absolutely nothing...

Sure enough, after all twenty-two tickets were scratched, Damon Donovan looked as if he had the words "wasted Crystal Cores" written all over his face.

With a grim expression, he brought five winning tickets over to be redeemed. Lily Hart held back a laugh; it was bad to openly mock a customer.

Daryl Donovan, on the other hand, was even angrier. He’d spent twenty-two Crystal Cores and only got five winning tickets. What a rip-off!

He had dug out every single one of those Crystal Cores from zombies’ heads!

He was so angry he crossed his arms and turned his back on Lily Hart, his entire posture radiating fury. Lily Hart really couldn’t hold it in.

"PFFT..." She burst out laughing. Although she covered her mouth quickly, the sound still escaped.

Daryl Donovan turned around in disbelief and glared at her. "You!" He then looked at his little brother with extreme grievance.

"Turn around," Damon Donovan said helplessly, then turned back to Lily Hart with an apologetic smile. "He has a bad temper, a bad temper."

"It’s fine. Redeeming prizes, right?" Lily Hart took the five scratch-off tickets and, without a second glance, stuffed them into the Lucky Cat’s mouth.

Soon, the prizes were spat out.

There were good ones and bad ones. The best was probably a bag of apples; the rest weren’t even worth looking at.

Even Damon Donovan didn’t want them. He only took the apples, leaving the other four prizes abandoned on the table.

"Poor little things," Lily Hart muttered, scooping the four prizes into a large storage bin.

It was filled with a hodgepodge of other abandoned prizes: ear picks, rubber bands, keychains, a computer mouse...

The two Donovan brothers didn’t go far, returning to the top floor of the same building. They shared the apples and finished them all.

"Dammit, we spent twenty-two Crystal Cores and all we got was this?!" Daryl Donovan cursed while savoring the sweet, fresh flavor in his mouth, smacking his lips.

"Alright, be content. You might not even be able to buy apples for a hundred Crystal Cores," Damon Donovan consoled him.

"I know, but you brought back a huge fruit basket at noon. I’m just feeling a bit resentful..." Daryl Donovan was disgruntled.

Damon Donovan said no more, simply staring intently at the RV. From their angle, they had a clear view of the scene inside.

They saw Lily Hart stretch lazily before flopping back onto her chair, while the two young women beside her bustled about, cleaning up.

One after another, a few young boys ran from the convenience store to the RV, with two big men trailing behind them.

They recognized them as Frost Shaw and Roman Rowe. They couldn’t for the life of them figure out why these two heavy-hitters would be willing to work for Lily Hart.

But soon, they understood...

Two pots appeared out of thin air on the table inside the RV. They were rectangular, with a depression about seven or eight centimeters deep in the middle.

Inside each pot was a fish that had been butterflied and spread open, surrounded by plenty of side dishes: tofu skin, fried tofu puffs, enoki mushrooms, and more...

Soon, a fragrant and spicy aroma drifted out, a mouth-watering scent.

Daryl Donovan’s eyes were glued to the scene. He suddenly felt he was too far away, wishing he could stand right in front of the table to smell and see it all up close.

Lily Hart and the others took their seats one by one. Next to the pot were many more washed and cut side dishes, ready to be eaten after they finished the grilled fish.

"Let’s eat!" Lily Hart said, casually picking up the most tender piece of fish and placing it in her bowl.

The others all picked up their chopsticks. In no time, both fish were completely devoured. Even the fish heads were snatched up and eaten by Roman Rowe.

They ate happily while the two Donovan brothers watched anxiously. Though they were far away and the smell was faint, it was this subtle, tantalizing aroma that kept luring Daryl Donovan, forcing him to crane his neck further and further forward until he nearly fell.

If Damon Donovan hadn’t been holding him back, he really would have jumped down, sprinted to the RV, and dived headfirst into the pot.

"I get it now... This is Boss Hart’s charm..." Daryl Donovan murmured.

She’s extremely generous and protective of her own people, can conjure up whatever they want to eat, and has a straightforward and friendly personality.

Even knowing the two of them were up to something, she still smiled and did business with them. How many people possessed such magnanimity?

He started to worry. "Little bro, if we go to Boss Hart and propose a partnership, you think she’ll agree?"

"Probably not," Damon Donovan said bluntly.

Daryl Donovan immediately deflated. "Then what do we do? I really want some grilled fish, too..."

"..." The two fell silent. They both desperately wanted to eat, but there was nothing they could do. They returned with their stomachs empty and rumbling.

At the dinner table, the group was also discussing the Donovan brothers.

Lily Hart said, "What do they want? I heard they’re always murdering and committing arson. Robbery is a minor offense for them, and they do it all without batting an eye!"

Frost Shaw calmly analyzed the situation. "They probably want to cooperate with us."
