Chapter 50: Chapter 50: You’ve Gone Viral
Winnie Lowell was even more furious. She had been waiting to hear news of Lily Hart’s death, and now this guy calls her out in the middle of the night just to say he’s quitting the job?
Where was the justice in that?
She glared at him, held out her hand, and said with a vicious look, "Pay me the penalty for breaking the contract! I’m going to report you!"
Roman Rowe slapped her hand away. "Pay you my ass! Go on, report me! I was looking to quit anyway, so this is perfect for me. Pfft~"
Winnie Lowell was so angry she was speechless. "You—you—"
For a moment, Winnie Lowell even considered hiring someone to assassinate Roman Rowe. But she quickly gave up the idea. She couldn’t afford that many Crystal Cores...
She could only watch helplessly as Roman Rowe’s back disappeared from view.
She stomped her foot in anger, clenching her fists, wanting to punch someone. After spinning in a circle on the spot, she only got angrier and punched the wall. "OW..." but only ended up hurting her own hand.
...
After dealing with Winnie Lowell, Roman Rowe eagerly trotted back to the RV. From ten meters away, he caught a scent. It was hard to describe, but it was probably the most fragrant aroma he had ever smelled in his entire life.
He reached the side of the RV and leaned pitifully over the tabletop, gazing at the four people inside enjoying themselves. On their table was a bubbling hot pot, its aroma continuously wafting out.
Roman Rowe sniffed hard and muttered under his breath, "It smells so good... so, so good. I want some... I’ve never smelled anything this amazing in my life."
Lily Hart was just putting some meat into the pot. Right across from her, Roman Rowe was leaning over, his blond hair making him look like a big Golden Retriever. ’I kind of want to pet him,’ she thought.
She sighed in resignation. ’How am I supposed to eat with this guy staring at the hot pot with such a desperate look in his eyes?’ But she ate anyway!
Lily Hart stuffed a large mouthful of meat into her mouth and deliberately made sounds of enjoyment. "Mmm~ Delicious! This meat is so tender!" She didn’t forget to shoot a provocative glance at Roman Rowe.
"I can’t take it anymore!" Roman Rowe straightened his chest, his expression grave as he roared.
"What about it?" Frost Shaw said, silently turning to him. ’Serves you right for being so blind. Regretting it now? Too late!’
Roman Rowe pouted. What could he do? He couldn’t beat Frost Shaw in a fight, and it seemed he couldn’t even beat Lily Hart. He squatted down huffily and focused on smelling the aroma.
Lily Hart didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. ’Looks like getting beaten up by Frost Shaw this afternoon really scared him.’
But what she didn’t know was that it wasn’t the beating from Frost Shaw that had scared him; it was being completely won over by these resources that were so incredibly scarce in the apocalypse.
Suddenly, Roman Rowe’s Light Brain started chiming. He looked down at it.
After a long moment, he jumped up in shock, slamming his hands on the tabletop. "Boss Hart, you’ve gone viral!"
"Huh?" Lily Hart was in the middle of taking a big bite of meat. She looked up in confusion, made a sound, and then continued to chew.
Roman Rowe, ignoring everything else, vaulted inside, opened his Light Brain, and sidled up to Lily Hart, casually taking a deep sniff.
Lily Hart couldn’t bear to see such a handsome face acting like that. "Get him a bowl and chopsticks," she said with a sigh.
’A handsome guy should just be obedient and act as eye candy. Or at the very least, be a likable pet.’
Hearing this, he immediately beamed and sat down next to Frost Shaw, waiting obediently.
Only then did Lily Hart look at his Light Brain. The page looked a lot like a social media feed; someone had made a post with two pictures attached.
She clicked on them one by one. "Aren’t these my RV and convenience store?" she asked, confused. "Who took these?"
Her gaze slowly shifted to Roman Rowe. "You posted this?" she stated, more than asked. He nodded guiltily.
Lily Hart looked completely unconcerned. She even praised him, "Not a bad picture," and gave him a thumbs-up.
Meanwhile, Frost Shaw opened his Light Brain. He also had the app called "Human Social Sphere."
A quick refresh brought up Roman Rowe’s new post. The comments, shares, and likes had all surpassed 500,000 and were still climbing.
Frost Shaw’s expression darkened. He opened the comments section. The vast majority of people were shocked, asking where this place was that actually had supplies like bottled water and instant noodles.
Another large portion of commenters were green with envy, jealous, and resentful, mocking Roman Rowe and accusing him of using pre-apocalypse photos just to get attention.
There were also some experts who analyzed the photos and concluded that they weren’t from the pre-apocalypse era—this was the wasteland!
Once this conclusion was out, it triggered countless more discussions. If this was the wasteland, then where did all these supplies come from?
No one could figure it out, but that wasn’t important. What was important was how badly they were all craving it!
Just looking at the images on their Light Brains was enough to make their mouths water and their minds automatically fantasize about the deliciousness of instant noodles.
Some eagle-eyed users even listed out all the food items visible in the first photo of the RV.
Because there were so many people and so many lottery winners, the list was incredibly long, and it even included real-time screenshots.
Every item was enough to make one’s mouth water: fruits, vegetables, fast food, snacks, cookies, and on and on...
It was like being back in the pre-apocalypse era during a supermarket shopping spree, with satisfied smiles on everyone’s faces.
This post also attracted the attention of the major bases. Within just a few hours, over a hundred Base Commanders had sent private messages to Roman Rowe.
Most of them were digging for information, desperate to know where this RV and convenience store were located.
A minority tried to inquire stealthily and implicitly, but since Roman Rowe hadn’t been on the app, he missed all of them.
It wasn’t until just now, when the head of the Central Command’s resource department personally messaged Roman Rowe to ask about the situation, that he found out the post he’d casually made had blown up.
He usually shared his daily life, which mostly consisted of posts like "killed so-and-so today" or "caused some trouble at X base"...
His view counts were never high; this was the first time he’d ever broken ten thousand. Roman Rowe was a little nervous.
Roman Rowe opened the chat with the resource department head again, guiltily showing it to Lily Hart. "Boss Hart," he said weakly, "please don’t be mad. I’ll delete it right now."
Lily Hart stopped him. "It’s fine," she said lightly. "This is a good way to build my reputation. The glory of the lottery store will shine upon every base."
She looked at the Light Brain. The department head’s tone wasn’t exactly friendly; it was somewhat forceful.
[Superpower user Roman Rowe, please provide the location and time these two photos were taken.]
[We need to verify the authenticity of these photos.]
About half an hour later, the department head sent another message, his tone slightly better this time.
[Superpower user Roman Rowe, where did the supplies in the convenience store come from? And the fresh fruit? Please cooperate with Central Command’s investigation.]
What followed was a series of analyses: [In the wasteland, there is no longer any natural land capable of cultivation.]
[Only the new soil developed by Central Command can barely sustain rice and a few vegetables, but the survival rate is low, and they are even prone to mutation.]
[We desperately need your cooperation and are eager to know the source of these supplies.]
Lily Hart read through the messages one by one. She could completely understand the department head’s urgency, but what did it have to do with her?
All she wanted was to open her lottery store in every base and earn lots and lots of points. That was all.
"Just ignore him," Lily Hart said, tossing the comment aside before stuffing more meat into her mouth.
Hearing that, he promptly set the department head’s chat to "Do Not Disturb" and then logged out of the app.
Easton arrived with a new bowl and chopsticks and placed them in front of Roman Rowe. He eagerly picked them up and, trembling with excitement, plucked a small piece of meat from the pot.
