Chapter 30: Chapter 30: The Zombie Tide Retreats

Lily Hart finally came out, jogging over. She looked around for a moment before asking, "Are all the zombies dead?"

Frost Shaw nodded. Zachary Ward, meanwhile, took the squad members who could still walk to check on the injured.

They weren’t far from Hope Base, but for the injured who couldn’t move, it might as well have been the other side of the world.

The Vanguard Squad had left in a hurry, so only Zachary Ward had a small amount of Hemostatic Powder in his Space Ring.

All they could do was sprinkle the Hemostatic Powder on their wounds and apply simple bandages. For more serious injuries, they would have to wait until they got back to the base for a Healing Ability User.

But right now, the biggest problem was how to get back. Three squad members were critically injured, and one of them, with a broken leg, couldn’t be moved at all.

Lily Hart knew the situation was urgent and wracked her brain for a solution. She had an RV, but it was far away at the base.

She wondered if she could make the RV appear out of thin air.

She lowered her gaze and opened her Light Brain, searching here and rummaging there. Finally, on her personal page, she found an option for the lottery shop’s location.

Tapping on it, she could see the real-time location of the lottery shop—that is, the RV. It was still sitting obediently in Hope Base.

Lily Hart studied it a little longer and was surprised to find she could spend one thousand points to instantly teleport the RV to any location she wanted.

’This is a godsend!’ Lily Hart immediately spent one thousand points to redeem the teleportation chance.

After a few operations, the familiar RV appeared before their eyes. Everyone was stunned. They had seen people store food in their spatial storage, but never an entire RV.

The squad leader asked in confusion, "I remember the RV was still there when we left the base. When did you put it into your space?"

Lily Hart shot him a look. ’This guy really doesn’t know when to keep his mouth shut.’ She opened the door and hopped on board with practiced ease.

Then she turned around, bracing herself with one hand, and looked down at the crowd. "Get in. We’re going back to the base."

Without asking a single question, Frost Shaw followed her right onto the vehicle. Zachary Ward, meanwhile, organized the squad members to carefully carry the injured onto the RV.

The RV was small, but it wasn’t cluttered. Aside from the bed in the back, the driver’s seat in the front, and a bathroom, the rest was open space.

The injured were laid down in the open area. The rest of the people all squeezed together, obediently standing near the driver’s seat, careful not to get near the bed in the back.

Lily Hart sat in the driver’s seat, set the destination, and let the RV do its thing.

Frost Shaw stood beside her like a Door God, one hand casually resting on the back of her chair as he closed his eyes to rest.

Lily Hart yawned and increased the RV’s speed. ’I’m so sleepy I could die...’

Half an hour later, the RV came to a steady stop outside the base’s side gate, which also served as the back gate, bypassing the zombie army at the front.

Even with the zombie horde at the main gate, four guards were stationed at every entrance in case of emergencies.

Zachary Ward went up to coordinate. After a brief exchange, the side gate opened, and the RV drove in.

The zombie horde at the main gate was gradually dispersing due to the death of the High-level Zombie controlling them from behind the scenes. Only a few clueless zombies were still wandering around.

Hunter Lowell’s eyes were slightly red. For a moment there, he had almost thought Hope Base wouldn’t make it through this.

A woman stood beside him. She was around thirty, dressed in practical clothing, with her hair tied up in a high ponytail and a noble, striking face.

She said with a hint of teasing, "Base Commander Lowell, I should get a cut of these Crystal Cores, right?"

Hers was the closest small base to Hope Base, and also the fastest to arrive with reinforcements.

She had brought fifty superpower users from her base, along with much-needed medicine and weapons, rushing over without a second thought.

Hunter Lowell swallowed the lump in his throat and said magnanimously, "One-third. Don’t say your Brother Lowell is stingy, now. Another third has to be divided among these warriors."

The remaining third, of course, would be invested in the base’s development.

The woman nodded, standing on the defensive wall with Hunter Lowell as they looked out beyond the base.

The scene was horrifying. Zombies were piled up in layers like in a mass grave, and the putrid stench they emitted was strong enough to make a person faint.

The closer to the wall, the more bodies there were, piled up like a staircase. The area for nearly a kilometer in front of the main gate was completely covered in zombies.

The Guardian Corps of the base were long used to this smell. They simply tied a cloth over their faces and began to happily dig out Crystal Cores.

The injured, meanwhile, were receiving treatment. The Healing Ability, born from the apocalypse, was incredibly useful.

As long as a Healing Ability User had enough energy and a high enough level, they could regrow your missing arms and legs.

Of course, such useful Healing Ability Users were all controlled by Central Command, required to cooperate with other superpower users on various missions.

The zombie horde crisis was now more or less over. Everything that needed to be dealt with had been dealt with.

Lily Hart found a spot to drop the others off, then found a street in the residential area to park the RV.

Then she drew the curtains, completely blocking the outside world. The system was still under maintenance and probably wouldn’t be back online until the next morning.

Lily Hart groggily went to the bathroom to wash up, then got into bed. The moment her head hit the pillow, she was fast asleep.

The next day, the sun was bright in the sky. The system’s voice sounded in her mind, but she ignored it, rolled over, and went back to sleep.

’I want to sleep, I’m not working today! I’m the boss, so if I don’t feel like opening, I won’t!’

And so she slept until high noon, only to be woken up by a full bladder. Rubbing her eyes, she went to the bathroom.

The door wasn’t closed, and Lily followed her in. The cat jumped onto the sink, staring at Lily Hart with her big eyes.

Lily Hart reached out and covered the cat’s eyes, scolding her softly, "You can’t watch when people are using the bathroom, you know? You’ll get a stye."

"Meow?" [What’s a stye?]

"It’s a needle in your eye," Lily Hart threatened.

Lily was frightened, leaping down with a SWISH. She took a few steps out of the bathroom, leaving behind a trail of indignant meows.

Lily Hart felt a bit more awake now. She called out casually, "System?"

[I am here,] the system said.

She felt relieved. The system was the person she trusted most in this world, and her greatest source of security.

She had been hearing the system talk about the many benefits of reaching Level 4 for so long, and her curiosity was killing her.

It was nearly noon, and her stomach was starting to protest with a growl. But having just woken up, she had no appetite and just bought a bowl of light noodle soup.

Lily Hart opened the RV door to get some air. Holding the medium-sized bowl in her hands, she squatted brazenly on the steps by the door and started slurping her noodles.

Her posture, her expression—it all gave off the vibe of a street hoodlum.

Every person who passed by was scanned by her gaze, and from time to time, she’d even add, "Wanna buy a scratch-off?"

Most passersby just shot her a glance and hurried on, pretending they hadn’t heard.

Her naked gaze looked as if it wanted to transform into a giant, invisible hand, grab people, and force them to play scratch-offs at her table.

After slurping down her noodles, Lily Hart stood up, satisfied, and gave a big stretch. She watched Lily, who was buried in her cat food, munching away noisily.

’The area outside the base must be a total mess, so I can’t do business there. I wonder if outsiders are allowed to set up stalls inside the base.’

A familiar figure appeared in her line of sight. Lily Hart’s eyes lit up as she jumped down from the RV and waved enthusiastically at him.

"Hey, uh, Squad Leader!" Lily Hart shouted. ’We fought side-by-side all night, and I don’t even know his name. For shame!’

The squad leader’s name was Forrest Finch. He had come looking specifically for Lily Hart. He ran over, a smile spreading across his face.
