Chapter 156: Chapter 156: Nightmare
Finn Lynch was momentarily speechless. It looked like no one was stopping him, but there was an invisible wall at the door—a wall that could hit people. ’And my ass is still aching from it...’
Someone in the crowd egged him on. "Finn Lynch didn’t take anything from the convenience store, so why isn’t he allowed to leave?"
It was a rhetorical question. Almost everyone present knew the Space Necklace belonged to Finn Lynch; they just wanted to watch the show.
"Yeah, Finn Lynch! You got a bottle of Coke stuck in your ass crack or something?!"
"Hurry up and pull it out! Stop hesitating! Do you want to get back to the base or not?!"
Finn Lynch was utterly humiliated and furious. He slowly clenched his fists as their mocking and jeering voices echoed in his ears.
It was as if hundreds, even thousands, of mosquitoes were buzzing by his ears, annoying him to no end. Finn Lynch extended his palm and abruptly unleashed his power to the side.
He was a Wind Ability User. With that single wave of his hand, he sent all the products on the front row of shelves flying.
CRASH! CLATTER! Things scattered all over the floor. A can even broke open, its sweet syrup and yellow peaches spilling out, creating quite a mess.
Frost Shaw fell silent. He subconsciously furrowed his brow, a faint killing intent rising from him. He looked at Finn Lynch, who still seemed dazed.
"Pay up." The two short words left Frost Shaw’s mouth, seeming to carry an endless chill that rushed toward Finn Lynch, enveloping him.
Finn Lynch glanced at the floor. Most of his arrogance had been extinguished by the chill. Shivering, he subconsciously tried to argue, "I-It wasn’t me."
’Who would believe that?’
It wasn’t like everyone was blind.
Seeing Frost Shaw remain silent and continue to stare at him, Finn Lynch’s fear intensified. "I-I don’t have any Crystal Cores on me! W-What am I supposed to pay with?!"
The Space Necklace was looped around Frost Shaw’s index finger, spinning. He casually uttered a single word: "Life."
Finn Lynch’s eyes widened. He never thought such glacial words could come from a warm-blooded person. The fear was bone-chilling.
An invisible pair of large hands seemed to choke his throat. It was utterly sinister, a coldness seeping through his skin and coursing through his entire body.
He shivered, goosebumps breaking out all over. His back was soaked with sweat, and his limbs felt weak.
Finn Lynch forced himself to rally his spirits and instinctively tried to run outside. As expected, he was bounced back again.
But he couldn’t care about that right now. He reached into his pants, pulled out a dozen or so Crystal Cores, and threw them all on the ground.
"Just let me go!" Finn Lynch wailed, once again dashing outside as if his life depended on it.
This time, no alarm sounded, and the invisible wall was gone. Finn Lynch exited the convenience store unimpeded.
But because he was running in such a panicked hurry, he tripped on a stone and took a nasty fall, a sharp piece of rock piercing his neck.
Blood immediately spurted out. Finn Lynch frantically clutched the wound and scrambled to run toward the base.
Blood sprayed as he ran. Finding the sight less than satisfying, Frost Shaw secretly intervened.
Finn Lynch stumbled and fell again and again, getting covered in injuries. Blood gushed like a fountain, and before he could even make it back to the base, he breathed his last.
The customers inside the convenience store watched him die, but not a single person stepped forward to help or say a kind word.
They all just watched coldly from the sidelines. It was a clear sign of how unpopular Finn Lynch was, and how rotten the atmosphere at Spring-Watch Base had become...
Frost Shaw withdrew his gaze and looked at the Space Necklace in his hand. With its owner dead, it had become an ownerless item.
He sent a wisp of his Spiritual Sense to probe the space. It wasn’t large, only about a square meter, but it was crammed full of things.
All sorts of random junk were inside: goods he had just pilfered from the convenience store, ugly rocks picked up from the ground, unwashed underwear, a half-eaten and already moldy black jelly...
Frost Shaw couldn’t bear to look. He retracted his Spiritual Sense, found a spot, and dumped all the garbage out from within.
After picking through it, he kept a few useful items, put them back inside, and then gave the Space Necklace to Easton.
"Here. Didn’t you always want a spatial item?" Frost Shaw feigned calmness, but the corners of his mouth were twitching upwards. ’I’m so awesome~’ he thought.
Easton’s eyes immediately lit up. He looked at Frost Shaw with adoration. "Wow, thank you, Frost~"
He immediately put it on, fiddling with it fondly. It even had a sparkling diamond pendant.
Frost Shaw glanced around the convenience store. After what they had just witnessed, the customers didn’t dare try any funny business and were now choosing their items obediently.
He clasped his hands behind his back and swaggered over to the RV. Before he even got close, he saw Lily Hart lounging leisurely in a deck chair.
A smile instantly broke out on his face. He quickened his pace up the steps, but when he saw the scene inside, the smile froze on his lips.
Roman Rowe was lying in another deck chair right next to Lily Hart, and the two of them were even sharing the same plate of cut fruit!
What’s more, they were talking and laughing, and when they reached for the fruit, their hands almost touched! ’Damn you, Roman Rowe!’
’So this is where he ran off to! He’s here enjoying himself!’
A sour feeling churned in Frost Shaw’s heart. He slowly walked up and smacked Roman Rowe on the head, which only then made him feel a little better.
"!" Roman Rowe looked up in shock, meeting Frost Shaw’s fiery gaze, and felt inexplicably guilty.
Frost Shaw said authoritatively, "Get up."
Roman Rowe remained comfortably seated, shaking his head firmly. "Nope. Why should I~"
"You! Roman Rowe! Get up now!"
"I won’t! I just won’t!"
Lily Hart glanced at the two of them and went back to eating her fruit. She took a sip of milk tea, the deck chair rocking back and forth. It was incredibly comfortable.
A light breeze blew, making her feel sleepy. Lily Hart’s eyes narrowed slightly as she listened to the bickering beside her.
The sounds gradually faded, as if coming from the edge of the sky. Her vision started to blur. Lily Hart was extremely drowsy.
She was having that dream again...
It was even a continuation of the last one. She and Frederick Shaw jumped off a cliff into a raging river, carried downstream by the current.
They eventually washed up on a riverbank. Frederick Shaw woke up first and, acting like a little adult, busied himself with taking care of her.
And her? She was crippled! She had lost a hand and her left calf, and she was running a high fever.
This terrified Frederick Shaw, and it also terrified Lily Hart, who was watching from a god’s-eye view. The sense of immersion was too strong.
It was as if she were the one on the bank, eyes shut tight and face pale. She could actually feel what it was like to have lost her limbs...
「Then, the scene changed.」
She and Frederick Shaw were in a research institute, lying on cold laboratory beds.
Their bodies were pierced with colorful tubes connected to various instruments monitoring their vitals.
All sorts of data flickered on the monitors. She couldn’t understand it, but her intuition told her that neither of them was in good condition.
Frederick Shaw was already thin, but the oversized hospital gown made him look even more gaunt, like a piece of paper. His face was deathly pale.
Lily Hart’s condition was no better. She was just as pale, and one of the tubes was drawing her blood.
It was a thin tube, but it never stopped, as if it intended to drain her dry.
From her god’s-eye view, Lily Hart was frantic. She wanted to wake them up, but she couldn’t make a sound.
This profound sense of helplessness made her sad... ’What is happening...?’
"Lily Hart? Boss Hart?"
"What’s wrong? Wake up!"
Lily Hart’s eyes flew open. Seeing Frost Shaw and Roman Rowe right in front of her, her frantically beating heart gradually calmed down.
’It was a dream. I was just dreaming,’ she reassured herself.
