Chapter 154: Chapter 154: Alarm, Alarm

The two of them seemed to have forgotten all about having to pay compensation, chatting for a full ten minutes.

Lily Hart was leaning on the table listening to base gossip. Getting a little tired, she took a sip of water and couldn’t help but let out a soft cough.

"Gah!" They jumped in fright, falling right on their butts, and stared up blankly.

They met Lily Hart’s smiling eyes and heard her heavenly voice. "Pay up, thank you!"

Their gazes darted to the right and met the wide-open eyes of the Base Commander’s dead nephew. They screamed in terror, "We’ll pay, we’ll pay, we’ll pay!"

As they spoke, they hurriedly pulled Crystal Cores from their pockets. They clattered sparsely to the ground, but the two didn’t have time to pick them up, scrambling away as fast as they could.

Lily Hart rolled her eyes. ’How boring.’

She then had Diana Sharp go and collect the Crystal Cores.

Say what you will, but the pile of bodies was indeed an effective deterrent.

Perhaps the two who went back spread some scare stories, because the customers who came after were all quite obedient.

They stuck to scratching their own cards, occasionally using their Light Brains to snap a couple of photos of the pile of bodies. Even when they gathered to discuss it, they kept their voices down.

Most of them won nothing. Their gazes shifted to the deserted-looking convenience store, their hearts filled with disdain.

’What era is this? A convenience store? What kind of stuff do they even sell in there? Is it edible? Usable?!’

With skeptical hearts, they walked in for a look. The first thing that greeted them was a dazzling array of shelves.

At first glance, all sorts of products were arranged neatly. One entire shelf was filled with instant noodles of every flavor.

On other shelves, baskets were set at a forty-five-degree angle, filled with all kinds of snacks sorted by category.

Along the side was a whole row of upright freezers, filled with drinks like mineral water, Coke, Sprite, lemon tea, and iced black tea.

There was another row of freezers holding ice cream bars, frozen dumplings, sweet rice balls, shumai, and buns—all things that could be eaten after a quick heating.

And next to the front counter were three microwaves for heating things up, costing just 2 points per use.

There were also electric kettles for customers to make their instant noodles, also costing just 2 points per use. In any case, the store had an unlimited supply of water and electricity, so it was no trouble at all.

The moment customers walked in, they were so dazzled and overwhelmed that their most direct reaction was the itch to take something.

’I want to take something. I want to get it for free.’

Easton stood at the door. They walked in openly, casually picking up products to look at before putting them back down.

After a full loop around the store, the more they looked, the more their hearts itched. They couldn’t hold back. ’I want to eat it. I really want to eat it!’

A man walked to a corner, looked left and right, and after confirming no one was watching, he grabbed a bag of fried dough twists, tore it open, and started pouring them into his mouth.

Before he could even start chewing, his entire body was lifted into the air. His mouth opened automatically, and the fried dough twists flew out, balling up and smashing into him.

"Ouch—"

He clutched the spot on his forehead where he’d been hit as trickles of fresh blood seeped out. The next second, he was thrown out of the convenience store and permanently blacklisted.

"Who—who the hell threw me out!" he wailed on the ground, rolling left and right, refusing to accept it.

The caramel flavor of the fried dough twists still lingered in his mouth. He scrambled to his feet and charged headfirst back inside.

But he couldn’t even get a foot inside before he was sent flying again, landing in the exact same spot.

He refused to believe it. He charged again and was sent flying. He charged again and was sent flying again. The fifth time he was sent flying...

He lay on the ground, looking up at the sky, and sighed silently. ’Am I really never going to be able to get back in?’

’I want to eat the fried dough twists! I want to eat instant noodles with ham! I want a drink of water!’

’I know I was wrong now...’

The customers inside watched him get sent flying again and again, as if there were an invisible, bouncy wall at the entrance.

They were shocked. ’I mean... how can you bully someone like that?’

But they watched without daring to make a peep. Anyone who could toy with a person from a distance like that had to be at least a Fifth-rank Superpower User.

After all, their own Base Commander was only a Sixth Rank. ’Can’t afford to offend them, can’t afford to offend them.’

With this cautionary tale before them, everyone was extra careful and cautious, occasionally stealing glances at the few "little brats" standing guard inside the store.

’Is it the one at the door? Or the one at the counter? Are kids these days all this powerful?’

’I can’t feel any energy fluctuations from them. Are they already so badass they can hide it?’

The customers shuddered, meekly browsing the convenience store with looks of utter shock on their faces.

At the same time, a deep sense of awe grew in their hearts. ’What kind of powerhouse could have sourced all this food? And the expiration dates are all so fresh.’

’Is it the woman in the brand-new RV? She looks so young and radiant. Could she really have this much power?’

’Did she latch onto some mysterious big shot? But in this day and age, what kind of big shot would have this kind of ability?’

’Impossible! Absolutely impossible!’

They didn’t want to believe it, but the facts were laid out before them, forcing them to.

That woman just had to have heaven-defying abilities to get her hands on so much mineral water, instant noodles, and drinks...

One man, while browsing, furtively stuffed some small snacks into his pockets. To cover his tracks, he also put a few cheap items into his shopping basket.

After making his selections, he carried the suspiciously light shopping basket to the front counter. "How do I pay?"

Frederick Shaw was standing on two cardboard boxes to be tall enough to see over the counter. He pointed to the Lucky Cat and said, "Just put the Crystal Cores in there. One First-rank Crystal Core can be exchanged for 100 points."

This man had chosen his items carefully. These were the cheapest spicy strips, just 1 point for a small packet.

He’d grabbed two packs, and also a bag of cucumber-flavored potato chips for 15 points, for a total of 17 points.

He asked brazenly, "I’m only buying this little bit, I don’t need a hundred points. Just give it to me for free."

He was clearly targeting Frederick Shaw for being young and seemingly easy to bully. His expression was fierce, as if to say, ’If you don’t agree, I’ll beat you up.’

Frederick Shaw calmly shook his head. "No. You can pool your purchase with someone else, or save the points for next time."

"You! You don’t know what’s good for you! Your store is so big, what’s the big deal about giving me a few snacks?! You have no conscience!" the man fumed, pointing his finger at Frederick Shaw’s nose and cursing.

Frederick Shaw remained calm, completely unaffected by him. But his words carried a sting.

"You’ve got such a big conscience, why don’t you buy some to feed the dogs? If you’re not paying, step aside. Don’t block the people behind you," Frederick Shaw retorted sharply.

’I’ve seen plenty of people like him. They love taking small advantages and act like they’re completely in the right.’

The man actually did step aside. Fuming, he threw down the basket and stormed out.

The moment his left foot crossed the threshold of the convenience store’s entrance, an alarm BEEP-BEEP-BEEPED.

[WARNING! WARNING! Customer Finn Lynch has not paid!]

[WARNING! WARNING! Customer Finn Lynch has not paid!]

[WARNING! WARNING! Customer Finn Lynch has not paid!]

It repeated three times, the volume so loud that everyone in the convenience store could hear it loud and clear.

There were even some of Finn Lynch’s acquaintances in the store. When the alarm went off, everyone’s head snapped toward the entrance.

Frost Shaw had been sunbathing on the second-floor balcony. The moment he heard the alarm, he leaped directly off.

He landed right in front of Finn Lynch. Frost Shaw cracked his neck and raised an eyebrow. "Hand it over."
