Chapter 152: Chapter 152: Wangchun! I’m Here
Frost Shaw froze. It wasn’t that he hadn’t considered it, but awakening a superpower meant taking on more responsibility and facing greater danger. He didn’t want that...
But he couldn’t protect them forever. Lily Hart’s words had been a wake-up call.
As if casually changing the subject, Lily Hart asked, "What do you all want to eat?"
"Claypot rice?" Leo Colby asked tentatively. After eating so much delicious food with Lily Hart, he often found himself reminiscing about the delicacies from the age of civilization.
"Sure," Lily Hart agreed. Now that he mentioned it, she was craving it too. She also began to wonder, ’Should I have them learn to cook for themselves in the future?’
’Always ordering takeout gets boring after a while.’
She ordered ten servings of claypot rice—the kind that came in individual clay pots. Each had different toppings, but all were generously portioned.
Roman Rowe boarded the RV, a trail of little ones tagging along behind him. He called out, "Come on, come on, take a seat! There’s one for everyone, no fighting over it."
He was just like a kindergarten teacher. Lily Hart had to resist laughing as she watched. The youngest of the group was seven, and every single one was incredibly well-behaved. They even called her "Lily" in the sweetest tones.
Frederick Shaw had only been here for a couple of days, and he still hadn’t quite shaken the bad habit of eyeing the food in everyone else’s bowls, even while eating his own. The past few years of starvation had been too severe.
He was much better now and wouldn’t actually snatch food anymore. On his first day, when the six kids were having breakfast together, Frederick Shaw couldn’t stop himself and had snatched a small steamed bun from Easton.
He got an earnest lecture from Lily Hart, who told him things like, "I promise I’ll make sure you have enough to eat from now on, blah, blah, blah... you were starving for too long, so you can’t eat too much all at once right now."
Frederick Shaw knew she was right, so he fought back the impulse to snatch food from other people’s hands.
Lily Hart mixed her claypot rice, combining the toppings with the rice until the whole thing was coated in a glossy, soy-sauce color. It was the perfect picture of a delicious meal. Roman Rowe’s mouth watered just looking at it, and he started mixing his own.
Seeing this, the others all began to follow suit.
Frederick Shaw was already a third of the way through his meal before he started mixing. After he did, he realized it tasted even better.
As they were eating, a few people suddenly appeared outside the RV. They were clean-cut and looked rather dapper, not at all sloppy like the people from other bases.
But as they got closer, Lily Hart caught a whiff of a rank, musty odor. It smelled like dirty socks that had been washed but then left in a heap for half a year without being aired out.
Lily Hart instinctively wrinkled her nose, put down her chopsticks, and waved a hand in front of her face. "Did a sewer pipe burst? What’s that awful smell?" she muttered, looking from side to side.
Frost Shaw, sitting beside her, heard this and also wrinkled his nose, looking around. He couldn’t smell anything bad, only her pleasant scent.
Leo Colby, sitting across from them, glanced at the hostile-looking group behind Lily Hart but said nothing to warn her.
Lily Hart happened to have her back to the base’s main gate, completely oblivious to how livid the people behind her looked.
"Hey! Watch your mouth!" a voice snapped from behind her. Lily Hart turned around, looking bewildered.
She deftly flicked a grain of rice from the corner of her lip into her mouth with her tongue, asking dubiously, "What are you here for?"
The group outside the RV looked furious. One of them snapped impatiently, "What do you think we’re here for? To use your toilet?"
Lily Hart shook her head and pointed outside with her chopsticks. "If you have to go, do it over there," she said breezily. "But be warned, if it’s too small, don’t bother taking it out. You’ll just embarrass yourself."
Her words must have hit a nerve, because one of them blurted out agitatedly, "Who are you calling small? You’re the one with a small chest!"
Lily Hart remained perfectly composed. She looked him up and down with utter contempt, her gaze finally settling between his legs. She let out a cold sneer. "Small balls, small dick, big mouth."
The men at the table couldn’t hold back their laughter. Then, they each snuck a peek downwards and were visibly relieved.
The man was now furious and flustered, looking like he wanted to drop his pants right there to prove himself. But he didn’t dare. Because it really was small.
His buddies were struggling to stifle their own laughter. Lily Hart waved a dismissive hand. "Get lost. Don’t bother me."
Frost Shaw mimicked her wave. In an instant, the group was frozen into a giant ball of ice. With a flick of his finger from afar, the ice ball went rolling away toward the base’s main gate.
"Nice," Lily Hart said, giving him a thumbs-up. "Let’s get back to eating. Don’t mind them. Idiots like that can go play somewhere else."
Usually, Roman Rowe would have chimed in excitedly at a moment like this, but now, the entire table was silent.
Lily Hart looked from one to the next, and then it dawned on her. She broke into a grin. "What’s with the long faces? Don’t worry, you’re all... well-endowed."
"!"
"!"
"!"
All three men stared at her in utter shock. ’H-how would Boss Hart know?’
Lily Hart just shrugged, putting on an inscrutable expression. Inwardly, she was thinking, ’It would be a terrible shame if such handsome men weren’t capable in that department.’
The three men exchanged a look, and each saw the same cautious warning reflected in the others’ eyes. This woman was dangerous.
They had just finished eating when another group arrived. This new bunch was just as arrogant at first, but they toned it down a bit after seeing the pile of bodies.
Lily Hart was perched on a high stool, eagerly awaiting. When she saw the potential customers, she put on a practiced smile.
"You’re the famous Boss Hart, Lily Hart?"
"You’re the one selling scratch-off tickets that can reveal anything?"
"Is that for real? I don’t buy it. If you can scratch off some fruit, then I’ll believe you!"
Lily Hart rolled her eyes. ’I thought he was going to demand something incredible. Just a measly piece of fruit?’
’That’s child’s play~’
But she just said curtly, "Believe it or not."
’Don’t these people go online? The news has gone viral. People from Central Command even came forward to confirm it’s real.’
’But no, this lot is still living in their own little world.’ Lily Hart couldn’t be bothered to explain.
"Hey, look, she’s getting defensive!"
"Exactly! If you can’t do it, just say so~"
"After all, fruit is incredibly rare these days."
Diana Sharp walked over from the sink near the storage closet, carrying a platter of freshly cut fruit.
Watermelon, cantaloupe, guava, Holy Daughter Fruit, dragon fruit, banana, and peeled pomelo.
She calmly set the platter on the table, inviting Tina Jacobs and Lily Hart to have some. Then she grabbed a paper towel to dry her hands.
"Holy crap, look what that is!"
"Is... is that fruit?!"
"Is that watermelon? Watermelon used to be my favorite!"
"What does watermelon taste like again?"
"I’ve forgotten... It smells so good... I want some so badly..."
The five or six of them stared in unison at the fruit platter, practically drooling.
The residents of Spring-Watch Base weren’t big on surfing the web like people from other bases. Their days were mostly spent in petty squabbles, with everyone looking down on everyone else.
As a result, they knew very little about what was happening online. They only knew that a "Boss Hart" had recently appeared and that she owned a lottery shop where you could supposedly win anything.
But they had scoffed at the idea, refusing to believe it. If something that amazing truly existed, Central Command would have surely seized and monopolized it by now!
There was no way it would be allowed to circulate freely.
But now, seeing real fruit with their own eyes, they were mostly convinced. Not even Central Command could grow fruit, and yet this Boss Hart had it...
