Chapter 150: Chapter 150: Humanity’s Top Combat Power?

She carefully cracked open a window to observe the situation outside. The Willow Tree was a powerful fighter, and in an instant, it had a massive rat bound tight.

The bound rat squeaked frantically, its plump legs struggling feebly in the air.

The other rats got the signal and swarmed forward to help, baring their sharp teeth and gnawing on the Willow Tree’s branches.

The Willow Tree winced in pain, extending even more branches to bind all the attacking rats.

Meanwhile, the Sunflower frantically fired a barrage of seed bullets from the side. With targets right in front of it, there was no need to aim—it just kept shooting! PEW PEW PEW!

"SQUEAK SQUEAK SQUEAK~" The rats struggled feebly, and as they neared death, their cries became even more ear-piercing.

After a short while, the dozen or so rats had been riddled with holes by the Sunflower, and their hair-raising squeals finally stopped.

The Rat King’s movements stuttered. Frost Shaw thought, ’This is bad,’ and pulled Roman Rowe into a hasty retreat.

The two of them could only watch as the Rat King swelled in size. It had been just two meters tall, but now it was four!

Its tail was thicker than a person. They couldn’t imagine how many days you’d be stuck in bed if you took a hit from that thing.

"Where’s that Leo Colby kid?" Roman Rowe asked.

"You go get him. I’ll handle the Rat King." Frost Shaw’s gaze was resolute as he cracked his wrists. ’I haven’t had a proper chance to use my superpower since reaching the Eighth Rank.’

Roman Rowe didn’t say another word. He just turned and ran. ’The Rat King’s rank is higher than mine,’ he thought. ’Am I supposed to stick around and be cannon fodder?’

Before Roman Rowe could even knock on the hotel’s main doors, he saw Leo Colby rushing over.

Roman Rowe felt relieved. He could just deal with the small fry; the big boss should be left to the experts.

The smaller rats weren’t high-rank, and the plants had already taken care of most of them. Roman Rowe showing up to lend a hand was perfect for the cleanup.

Hundreds of rat corpses were piled haphazardly in the square.

With every small rat that died, the Rat King’s power grew, until it had swelled to a towering six meters.

Inside the RV, Lily Hart watched, dumbfounded. ’I think I’m suddenly developing megalophobia...’ she thought.

Frost Shaw and Leo Colby hovered in mid-air, level with the Rat King’s eyes. They exchanged a look and nodded in unison.

With perfect coordination, they attacked from both sides. An ice blade and a bolt of Thunderbolt shot toward the Rat King simultaneously as it let out a piercing shriek.

The ice blade and Thunderbolt seemed to pause for an instant before slamming into the Rat King with even greater speed.

After a burst of crackling and sizzling, the two sides of the Rat King’s body looked completely different. The fur on its left half was scorched black, while the fur on its right was caked with frost.

It shrieked furiously at the sky. Its front claws, rather short, beat relentlessly against its chest like a pellet drum.

Lily Hart’s eyes widened as she watched. Frost Shaw and Leo Colby attacked again, ignoring the creature’s shrieks.

This time, the Rat King had learned its lesson and focused its chase on a single person. Several times, Frost Shaw was nearly swatted out of the sky by one of its claws.

Leo Colby took advantage of the opening, silently gathering a massive ball of lightning.

CRACKLE... SIZZLE... The sound echoed above his head. It was a ball of lightning two meters in diameter, surrounded by arcing currents of electricity.

Leo Colby’s hair whipped up in the wind. He thrust out his hand, and the ball of lightning shot straight after the Rat King as if guided by radar...

Frost Shaw glanced back. ’It’s time,’ he thought. He exhausted the last of his energy to construct an incredibly hard fortress of ice around himself, protecting him from the impending blast.

The Rat King’s eyes were huge, but its vision was poor. It couldn’t find where Frost Shaw had gone, little knowing that danger was creeping up from behind.

BOOM... The ball of lightning slammed into the Rat King. Electric currents instantly enveloped its entire body. A moment later, a deafening shriek tore through the air.

Plumes of black smoke billowed out. Even from a distance, Lily Hart could smell roasting rat. She sniffed. ’Smells pretty good, actually.’

Frost Shaw climbed out of his ice fortress, hopping a short distance away. After a while, the electricity dissipated, revealing the Rat King’s charred corpse.

It lay on the ground like a small mountain. With the Rat King dead, the other mutated animals it had been suppressing began to emerge from hiding.

Leo Colby landed on the ground, his face pale. Unleashing an ultimate attack took a toll on both one’s stamina and energy.

Frost Shaw supported him as they walked toward the RV. Roman Rowe ran over eagerly, waving and asking, "You two okay?"

As he got closer, he saw how pale they both were. Roman Rowe was skeptical. "One rat managed to do this to two Eighth-rank Superpower Users?"

At his words, both their faces turned even paler. For once, they were in perfect agreement—neither could be bothered to respond to Roman Rowe.

Roman Rowe moved to help support Leo Colby, and the three of them walked side-by-side toward the RV. Lily Hart stood in the doorway, watching them with a smile.

One by one, the three men boarded the RV and collapsed onto the sofa. Lily Hart stood before them and asked quizzically, "Aren’t you guys supposed to be humanity’s top fighters?"

’And you ended up in this state after fighting a single mutated rat?’

Frost Shaw’s face was ashen. As he felt his energy slowly recovering, he wondered, ’Have I been getting too complacent lately?’

Leo Colby calmly analyzed the situation. "That mutated rat was very strong, equivalent in power to an Eighth-rank Superpower User. Its sonic waves also launched psychic attacks on humans."

"Right," Frost Shaw chimed in, trying to save face.

"Oh~ but both of you are Eighth-rank Superpower Users," Lily Hart said, raising an eyebrow.

’One should always be prepared for danger, even in times of peace.’

"We underestimated it. The evolution of plants, animals, and even zombies is far more advanced than we imagined," Leo Colby stated matter-of-factly.

"Indeed," Lily Hart said.

’Could it be that humanity is the only one being left behind by evolution?’

’At the same rank, humans can’t beat zombies, and they can’t beat mutated flora and fauna...’

Seeming to want to change the subject, Frost Shaw opened his Light Brain and pulled up the latest map of Cathaya.

The map of Cathaya was shaped like a rooster, and at the spot where the heart would be, a five-pointed star marked the location of Central Command.

Radiating out from Central Command were over a thousand official bases, each represented by a five-pointed star.

But besides these stars, other places on the map caught Lily Hart’s attention.

She took a step forward and zoomed in on the rooster’s tail. There was an icon of a Willow Tree, and not a single five-pointed star anywhere near it.

Frost Shaw explained, "That’s an S-Class danger zone designated by Central Command. That Willow Tree mutated in the first year of the apocalypse. For the past ten years, it’s been feeding on the flesh and blood of passing survivors. That’s why it’s so powerful."

Leo Colby added, "In the eighth year of the apocalypse, Central Command organized a force of over a hundred superpower users, all Fifth Rank or higher, to try and eradicate the Willow Tree. None of them made it back alive."

Lily Hart’s eyes widened in shock. ’How terrifying.’

She quickly scrolled away, moving to the rooster’s feet on the map. There was an icon of a white dove. She looked at Frost Shaw, waiting for his explanation.

"The White Dove," Frost Shaw said. "A mutated animal, but with intelligence rivaling an adult human’s. It can speak, and it can control all other birds."

’Terrifying,’ she thought. ’A single peck from every bird under its control could tear you apart.’

Lily Hart shivered and quickly scrolled away again. ’These mutated plants and animals are just too terrifying!’

Roman Rowe sighed, remaining sprawled on the sofa. "In the end, humanity is just too weak. Central Command even considered just giving up and letting things fall apart, but that idea was rejected."

"What do you mean?" Lily Hart asked.
