Chapter 81: Chapter 79: Staying
There were eight adult elephants in total. The wild fruits they carried in their trunks amounted to over a hundred pounds.
They set the fruit down, then coolly went on their way.
Shen Baoying picked up one of the green fruits to inspect it. "These are wild kiwis and green jujubes," she said with a smile.
Jiang Linhai picked up a green jujube, rubbed it in his hand, and took a bite. "Tastes pretty good. It’s nice and fresh. Here, Niu Niu, try one."
"Thank you, Uncle." Niu Niu took the green jujube from Jiang Linhai. After one bite, her eyes crinkled in a smile. "It’s so sweet and yummy!"
Jiang Si peeled a small kiwi with her knife. Its firmness was perfect, though it was a little sour and tart.
Jiang Si said to Shen Baoying, "These would be good for making kiwi preserves."
Shen Baoying laughed. "We’re always on the move, when would we have time for that? With so many of us, we’ll finish these hundred-plus pounds in no time. We should eat them while they’re fresh and get the vitamins."
Niu Niu held up the pit from her jujube. "We can save the seeds! Then when we have a home, we can plant them by the door and make our own preserves."
Everyone laughed, praising Niu Niu for her great idea.
In reality, not only did Jiang Si have plenty of seeds stored in her dimensional space, but in its roughly half-mu of usable area, most of the fruits and vegetables she had planted were already ripe for eating.
Often, when everyone else was asleep, Jiang Si would have to enter her space to harvest the crops and replant.
The harvests were so plentiful that, to avoid waste, she also had to process the food for long-term storage.
The next morning, Jiang Si started up the helicopter and flew toward the coastline.
Near the coastline was Huaxi City. The helicopter’s radar picked up a lot of signal interference, which suggested there were likely quite a few survivors in the area.
They had plenty of supplies, so there was no need to risk entering the city.
Jiang Si had considered going to the airport to acquire another helicopter, but she thought better of it.
’The Northern Base is already established now. How could there possibly be an intact helicopter just sitting there waiting for me?’
Jiang Si found a secluded, open area along the coastline suitable for landing the helicopter.
Gazing at the boundless ocean, Niu Niu grew excited.
It was the first time she had ever seen the ocean.
She said in amazement, "The ocean is so beautiful! It’s like blue glass! And the water is full of colors!"
Lu Zhifeng patted her head. "Yes, it’s very beautiful." Then he added meaningfully, "And very dangerous." It was no less perilous than the forest.
’I need to go to the shore to deploy the yacht,’ Jiang Si thought. ’Just in case, it’d be best to have someone keep watch.’
’As soon as it’s in the water, I can call everyone over so we can board quickly.’
’If all goes well, we should be able to reach the West Coast of the North Country within a week.’
Jiang Linhai glanced around, then lowered his voice and said to Jiang Si, "Those earthquake fissures weren’t that big. A major earthquake might not happen at all. What if we get to the Northern Country and it’s not even as good as it is here?"
"As long as there are no major earthquakes and no mutated creatures around, I think it wouldn’t be a bad idea to stay and find a place to settle down."
’The trajectory of disasters in this life has already diverged drastically from my last one.’
Jiang Si wasn’t sure about the situation in the Northern Country either. Jiang Linhai’s words made her fall into a thoughtful silence for a moment before she replied, "We can board the yacht first. If we find that living on the boat is sustainable, we can always disembark and explore the surrounding area."
’Her biggest worry was the local factions in different regions. Since she couldn’t predict that, it was better to focus on the here and now.’
’She had no idea what the Northern Base was truly like, but the fact that Kuang Jiaying had kept his word and let them go was a big point in its favor.’
"If we run into any danger, we’ll just set sail and leave immediately."
Jiang Linhai nodded. "Alright, that’s the plan. I’ll let the others know."
