Chapter 103: Chapter 101: Driving Away the Giant-Toothed Shark

Jack’s wife stood on the cracked ice, pulling on the listing yacht with all her might, trying to get back aboard as quickly as possible.

But the yacht’s engine, which hadn’t been started for hours, was acting up again.

A crewman was pouring a steady stream of antifreeze into the fuel tank, but as Jack’s wife pulled on the unmoving yacht, a bone-deep chill washed over her.

Suddenly, her sharp eyes spotted two dark shadows rushing toward her.

Jack yelled frantically, "No! No!" It felt as if his soul was about to leave his body.

Just as the dark shadows were about to break through the ice and sink their teeth into Jack’s wife...

BANG! BANG!

Two gunshots rang out simultaneously. Jiang Si and Qin Shen had accurately hit the giant-toothed sharks in the head, startling them. The sharks instantly changed direction and charged straight for the Icebreaker.

They slammed into the ship violently, their sharp teeth scraping against the metal hull with a terrifying, ear-piercing shriek.

Meanwhile, Jack’s wife and the others seized the opportunity to quickly scramble onto the yacht, saving their skins.

Jack hugged his wife, overcome with emotion. "Thank God! Thank God!"

Lina pulled away from his embrace, her brow furrowed as she looked toward the Icebreaker.

After Jiang Si and Qin Shen thwarted their attack, the two giant-toothed sharks summoned a horde of reinforcements. They began to repeatedly ram and tear at the same spot on the Icebreaker.

This was enough to prove that they were highly intelligent, capable of coordinated attacks, and extremely vindictive.

Dr. Shire looked on nervously, terrified the Icebreaker would be destroyed.

He looked around for something to drive the giant-toothed sharks away but was stopped by the others. "Doctor, if we do that, the sharks will turn on us."

Dr. Shire said angrily, "They just saved us! Are we supposed to just sit here and do nothing? If they make it out of this unscathed, how could we possibly face them? Do you think they’d still be willing to take us with them then?"

"If the Icebreaker is damaged, we won’t be able to leave either. We wouldn’t be helping them; we’d be helping ourselves."

Lina nodded. "The doctor is right. We have to find a way to lure these sharks away."

An idea suddenly struck her, and she asked quickly, "Are there any fireworks left from last time?"

"Yes, I’ll go get them," a crewman said.

The ceaseless trembling of the Icebreaker was terrifying.

Niu Niu cowered in Lu Zhifeng’s arms as Shen Baoying asked anxiously, "Sisi, should we take the helicopter and leave?"

As soon as she said this, Lu Zhifeng felt something was strange.

’I haven’t seen any helicopter, so how could we fly one out? Didn’t the last one break down?’

’Could there be one hidden in the Icebreaker’s storage hold?’

’That makes sense. For an Antarctic expedition, you’d have to have a helicopter for rescue operations.’

’Wait, if there was a helicopter, why didn’t any of those people use it to escape?’

Lu Zhifeng shot a questioning look at Shen Baoying, but Jiang Linhai quickly changed the subject. "Why don’t we just blow all these giant-toothed sharks up with explosives?"

Jiang Si shook her head. "They’re too close. It would damage our ship too. And even if we blew up the first wave, all that blood in the water would just attract a second one."

The words had barely left her mouth when the loud crackle of fireworks came from outside the Icebreaker.

The giant-toothed sharks were startled, and the Icebreaker suddenly fell quiet.

Jiang Si peered out of the cabin and saw Dr. Shire and his group back on the yacht, setting off fireworks in broad daylight.

Zhang Qingfang muttered, "So they do have a conscience after all."

Giant-toothed sharks are sensitive to sound, but mutated, apocalyptic creatures also have extremely strong adaptability.

The effect of the fireworks wouldn’t last long.

’There might be a way to make the giant-toothed sharks leave for good.’

Jiang Si took a drone out of her storage space, placed a letter inside it, and flew it over to Dr. Shire.

Dr. Shire took out the letter, his face lighting up with joy.

Pouring gasoline into the sea... the foul, pungent smell and the oil slick would surely make the giant-toothed sharks steer clear.

Dr. Shire gave a deep bow in the direction of Jiang Si’s group.

He then hurried to organize everyone, telling them to quickly pour the gasoline into the water before the cracked ice could freeze over again.

Mike had only locked up the food storage. He never expected them to come back for the fuel.

If they ran out of fuel, and they ever got a chance to go ashore later, they’d be completely screwed without enough to get there.

Mike roared, "You’ve already taken enough supplies! We’re staying here, and we need those supplies to survive. I absolutely forbid you from dumping all the fuel into the sea."

The yacht had plenty of supplies, but the sea was vast. To pollute a large enough area, they would need to dump at least several years’ worth of fuel.

Mike brandished a knife to stop them, his eyes filled with menace, but the others were desperate to go back.

They had already paid such a heavy price; how could they let all their hard work go to waste?

Lina pointed a finger in his face. "Get out of the way, Mike, or I won’t hesitate to peel your scalp back."

Dr. Shire, however, said, "This is a good way for us to get back. We can definitely make it. Mike, you and your group can make a new choice and come back with us."

Mike’s expression faltered. Behind him, the others hesitated even more obviously.

Dr. Shire continued, "We’ll forgive what you did before and treat you all the same as everyone else. Mike, don’t you want to go back and find your grandmother? Maybe... maybe she’s still safe."

The guilt and conflict Mike had been hiding finally burst forth. He gritted his teeth and said, "I want double the supplies. And my friends do too!"

As long as Mike handed over the key, they could get into the food storage again. Asking for double wasn’t really that much.

Shire nodded. "I promise you, Mike. I swear in God’s name, I won’t deceive you."

"Okay, I believe you, Doctor."

Soon, barrel after barrel of fuel was being poured into the sea.

The once crystal-clear seawater instantly turned murky. The fuel slick formed a dark, iridescent sheen, like a rainbow appearing from hell. Mixed with the glass-like shards of ice, it actually looked quite beautiful under the refracting sun.

The smell of fuel was so strong that Jiang Si and the others could smell it clearly even inside the cabin, making their heads spin.

Jiang Si handed everyone an N95 mask to avoid inhaling the large amount of harmful substances and damaging their health.

Good health was their true capital.

The fuel slick spread out in rings, expanding to a diameter of over a hundred meters.

It pained Jiang Si to see the empty fuel barrels on the deck.

’If only my space were a little bigger, just a little bigger.’

But ever since that night she’d gotten close with Qin Shen, her space hadn’t expanded at all.

She subconsciously glanced at Qin Shen. ’Don’t tell me I actually have to get close to Qin Shen to expand my space?’

’If I suggest we try it sometime, will Qin Shen think I’m a pervert?’

Qin Shen noticed her gaze lingering on him a little too long and suddenly looked at her. "What is it?"

His deep voice, combined with the faint trace of concern in his otherwise indifferent expression, was undeniably alluring.

Jiang Si’s face flushed red. "It’s nothing."

’This isn’t the time to be thinking about such things.’
