Chapter 46: Chapter 46: You’re a Murderer

Two rotting corpses, twisted into grotesque poses, were sprawled on the young man’s legs. They clutched his limbs, gnawing away with a sickening "CRUNCH... CRUNCH..."—just like chewing on brittle bones...

The man howled in agony, leaving a trail of blood as he tried to crawl away.

The young woman was already deathly pale and scared out of her wits. The moment she scrambled to her feet, she stumbled and fell again.

When she finally got to her feet, she was limping badly.

The woman’s face twisted in pain, but she forced herself to drag her injured leg and run for her life.

Luckily, the two crawling zombies were too busy feasting on the man to pay her any mind.

"Annie, save... save me!"

The woman, Annie, abandoned the man pleading in agony and fled in a panic.

"Those two young people are probably from that... what’s it called... the Rescuers’ Association, right?" Song You’ai whispered from behind the iron gate.

"Probably. Judging by their behavior, they were most likely going door-to-door to conduct a census and register supplies." 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝔀𝓮𝒃𝙣𝓸𝒗𝒆𝒍.𝙘𝒐𝒎

Song Youzhi let out a soft "Huh..." and said, "Sis, look at those two crawling corpses. Aren’t they Uncle Li and Auntie Li from across the way?"

"Yes, that’s them."

"Mom, Uncle, you two stay here and lock the door. I’ll go out and take care of them."

Song You’ai and Song Youzhi hurriedly grabbed Xie Ning’s hand. "Ningning, are you going to help them?"

"I’m not helping them, I’m solving a problem." Xie Ning’s expression was grim. "The screaming is too loud. It will attract unnecessary trouble."

"More importantly, the stench of blood outside is strong. If we don’t clean it up, it’s likely to attract other nearby zombies right to us."

"Right, right. Ningning has a point," Song Youzhi agreed.

Seeing her mother’s worried expression, Xie Ning squeezed her hand and whispered reassuringly, "It’s okay, Mom. It’s just two zombies. It’ll be over quickly."

She then turned to Song Youzhi and instructed in a low voice, "Uncle, go get some soil and straw. We’ll use it to cover up the bloodstains."

Song Youzhi understood immediately and hurried to the backyard to get what she needed.

Xie Ning gave her mother a look, then darted out the door and ran straight toward the house across the way.

Song You’ai bolted the door, her eyes following her daughter’s every move.

In truth, they didn’t need to worry about Ningning when she was killing those rotting monsters.

Her movements were so swift and efficient that it was all over in a flash.

In the blink of an eye, she had taken care of the two elderly zombies.

Xie Ning glanced down at the young man, his pupils already beginning to dilate. Expressionless, she delivered a final strike to his head.

"AHHHHHH!" At that exact moment, a young woman in a pink miniskirt burst out of the farmhouse villa.

Seeing the bloody scene before her, the woman pointed at Xie Ning and shrieked.

"M-murder... you’re a murderer! You killed someone! You killed my grandparents!" The girl’s eyes went wide as she stared death at Xie Ning, her pointing finger trembling uncontrollably.

Song Youzhi ran over, pushing a small wheelbarrow of soil and straw. He quickly explained, "Li Xiang, your grandparents already died from that high fever. The only reason they’re moving now is because they’ve turned into zombies."

"You’re the zombie!" the girl in the miniskirt shrieked. "My grandparents were just sick. They weren’t dead! It was you! Your niece killed them!"

Xie Ning glanced at her, her face a mask. A corner of her mouth curled up, and her voice dripped with sarcasm. "I don’t recall you being this devoted to Aunt and Uncle Li when they were alive. So, spit it out. What do you want?"

’These neighbors across from Grandma’s house were a strange bunch.’

’After their son and daughter-in-law died in a car crash, the old couple’s doting on their grandchildren was simply out of this world.’
