Chapter 155: Chapter 155: Pursuit and Launching an Attack

"Wait, t-take me, us, with you."

When one of Lu Zhong’s men saw Xie Ning pull open the RV door, he immediately lunged forward, squeezing in next to Song You’ai to grab her leg.

After scrambling up, Song You’ai didn’t hesitate to kick back at him.

Xie Ning slammed the door shut, her expression ugly as she shook off the man’s hand.

"Get lost. There are cars over there."

"You damn bitch, how can those cars compare to this one..."

Xie Ning whipped a metal wire around his raised arm, gave a vicious tug, and sent him flying. He crashed heavily into Cao Fa, who was already on the ground.

After that flurry of moves, the young woman darted into the driver’s seat with a cold expression. Before the other two men could even reach for the door, she jabbed each of them with a Metal Spike, forcing them to snatch their hands back.

SLAM. The doors locked instantly. With a spin of the steering wheel, the RV’s rear swung around, and the vehicle shot out from between the men, speeding straight into the distance.

The men, furious and frustrated, started shouting and cursing, letting loose a stream of profanities.

Seeing a horde of zombies charging toward them, Lu Zhong and his men trembled in fear.

Luckily, one of the men finally managed to pry open a car door, kill the zombie struggling in the driver’s seat, and drag its body out onto the ground.

Lu Zhong, Cao Fa, and the three other men scrambled into the car, fighting to get in first.

Cao Fa had just closed the passenger-side door when Lu Zhong slammed on the gas and started the car.

As the car lurched forward, they were all thrown back. Cao Fa smashed his head against the side window, grimacing in pain.

"Zhong, should we go after that little bitch?" Cao Fa cursed angrily. "That damn woman, acting so high and mighty. We have to teach her a lesson..."

"Shut up, you’re so damn noisy." Cold sweat beaded on Lu Zhong’s forehead as he floored the gas, racing against the horde of zombies behind them.

He saw a zombie in tattered clothes that was especially fast. With just a few leaps, it was about to catch up to their rear bumper. Lu Zhong stomped on the gas, his hands trembling on the steering wheel.

BANG! The zombie suddenly slammed onto the rear window. The three men squeezed into the back seat immediately let out terrified howls.

"Shut up!" Lu Zhong eased off the gas for a second before stomping on it again.

The force from the sudden acceleration decisively flung the zombie off the back of the car.

But soon, Lu Zhong noticed a terrible problem.

The warning light on the dashboard was flashing nonstop.

The car was almost out of gas. They couldn’t afford to waste any.

"Fuck, our supplies, our cars, we didn’t pack any of it!"

"Zhong, what do we do now? Should we circle back?"

"Are you blind? Can’t you see we’re low on gas!" Lu Zhong was grinding his teeth in frustration.

’If I’d known this would happen, I never would have come downstairs and gotten involved in this mess.’

BANG! The three men in the back cried out in terror. "Zhong, it’s back again!"

The super-fast zombie seemed to have a vendetta against them, and it leaped swiftly toward the roof of their car.

"Zhong!"

THUD. The top of the car sank downwards. Lu Zhong’s face turned exceptionally grim.

With a piercing SCREEECH, a long fingernail suddenly stabbed through the car roof.

"AAAAAHHH!" The men in the car screamed madly, shrinking back against the sides in terror.

"I’ll take you down with me!" A thuggish look appeared on Lu Zhong’s face. He followed the town road and suddenly swerved into a nearby alley.

As he turned, he deliberately swerved hard. With the ear-piercing screech of tires on pavement, the zombie on the roof was thrown off, smashing hard against the alley wall.

Half the wall collapsed, burying the zombie in a pile of rubble.

By the time it howled and clawed its way out of the rubble, the car had long since sped away and vanished.

...

Zheng Heng and Zha Peng pushed open the door to Room 501. Their first words were, "We’re leaving now. Pack your things. Immediately!"

The four young women in the room were startled by their sudden, urgent tone. "What’s wrong?"

"Lu Zhong, Cao Fa, and their guys were surrounded by a horde of zombies. They’ve already fled. We need to use this chance to leave immediately."

"It’s not safe here anymore. The zombie hordes are very active right now, and who knows if they’ll find their way here. After all, our building is very close to the street."

Zhuang Xinyi trembled in fear, wiping her tears as she cried, "Then what do we do? Lu Zhong and his men took all our car keys before."

"That’s why I’m telling you to pack up, quick!"

"Five minutes, hurry up! After you’ve packed, we’ll go upstairs. While they’re gone, we’ll grab the car keys and get out of here!"

Zha Peng’s roar finally quieted the whimpering, tearful Zhuang Xinyi. The other girls hurriedly began to shove things haphazardly into their backpacks.

Zhuang Xinyi was wearing a frilly dress and heels, carrying a small designer handbag too delicate to hold anything of use. No one expected her to help.

Once everything was packed, Zheng Heng led the charge up to the sixth floor.

With a few swift swings of his axe, he chopped down the door to the sixth-floor apartment.

Hearing the noise, Lu Zhong’s mistress, Zhao Yanran, ran out of a room. She pointed at Zheng Heng’s group and screamed, "Are you all trying to die? You bastards! Are you trying to start a rebellion?"

Zheng Heng’s eyes swept the room and immediately spotted the car keys on a side cabinet.

He snatched them up, stuffed them in his pocket, and shot a look at Zha Peng.

Zha Peng followed his gaze, and his face lit up. He hurried to a corner and picked up two heavy black duffel bags.

He unzipped one and saw it was full of food and water.

Seeing what they were doing, Zhao Yanran grew anxious and angry. She rushed forward to stop them. "Are you trying to die? When Zhong gets back, I’ll have him kill you thieves!"

"We were kind enough to take you refugees in, and you repay our kindness with this! And you call yourselves college students! Ptooey!" As she cursed, she latched onto Zha Peng’s arm and refused to let go.

Zheng Feina rushed forward and kicked her right in her fat ass, sending her sprawling onto the sofa.

Still not satisfied, she rushed over, grabbed Zhao Yanran’s hair, and slammed her head against the nearby cabinet a couple of times.

"It’s not like you’re a saint yourself."

"Feina, let’s go," Zheng Heng called out.

"Ah! Ah!" Zhao Yanran clutched her bruised forehead, turned, and shrieked, "You just wait, you little bastards! I’ll have Zhong kill you when he gets back! Ah, my supply bags! Robbery! Someone’s breaking in and robbing us!"

Zhao Yanran staggered out after them, shouting for help in the hallway.

The entire building was dead silent. A few families on the lower floors were secretly peeking out through their peepholes.

"The zombies on the street are unstable. If you can, please evacuate the building as soon as possible." Zheng Heng threw these words into the hallway before leading his group hurriedly downstairs.

He had done all he could.

The old apartment building had poor soundproofing. He believed the few remaining families in the building would hear him.

But whether they would leave, and whether they could escape the zombie horde, was not his concern.

Zhuang Xinyi wiped away her ever-flowing tears, her heart aching with pity.
