Chapter 53: Chapter 53: Preparations

As Perry Yates threw out the cards in her hand one by one, the space filled with all sorts of things like tables, chairs, and sofas.

Perry Yates had never been to a bar before, so she wasn’t sure what was supposed to be inside, nor did she care.

After all, the place was hers, so she could decorate it however she pleased.

Next was the alcohol.

Drinking could ward off the cold, so in the last game, besides food, the most common items she got from her item cards were all kinds of hard liquor.

Later, after Perry Yates performed Ascension on them, both the quantity and quality of these liquors improved significantly.

After a while, Perry Yates still hadn’t finished decorating the first floor. She still had several more floors to furnish. If she did it all by herself, who knew when she’d ever be able to open for business.

Thinking of this, Perry Yates brought out the Housekeeper Card.

A golden light flashed, and a tall, slender, handsome young man in a black tailcoat appeared before her. He bowed respectfully and said, "My esteemed master, do you have any instructions for me?"

Perry Yates was very satisfied with this housekeeper. She took out all the cards she hadn’t used yet, placed them on the table, and briefly explained her plans.

The first floor would be a general area where any player could enter. It would also display some ordinary two-star cards for players to purchase. Most importantly, a wall of four-star cards would be placed in the most prominent position.

Perry Yates didn’t plan to sell these cards for money, but to trade them for other cards.

Trading low star cards for High Star Cards was a great deal for her.

She also planned to offer a custom-order service.

As for the various potions, Perry Yates also planned to take out two of each to display on the first floor.

Like the alcohol, these potions originally came from White Cards, and there was only one of each. But after Perry Yates’s Ascension, setting aside the quality, in terms of quantity, she could now drink them like water.

The second floor would have private rooms. The Knowledge Crystal and another four-star item card called Immersive Experience would be placed there.

The Knowledge Crystal’s ability was to provide clues and hints when asked a question, such as predicting the next game. Meanwhile, Immersive Experience was a mirror that could concretize the results predicted by the Knowledge Crystal.

For the user, it would be like having a dream.

To put it simply, Immersive Experience allowed players to experience the game in advance. Although it wasn’t real, the experience itself felt genuine.

It was like taking countless practice tests, midterms, and finals, all in preparation for the ultimate exam.

As for the price, it would be ten one-star cards per person, per use.

Then there was the third floor.

The third floor would be a treatment room. The Life Flower would be planted there, and the Spiritual Spring would also be placed on the third floor. Perry Yates planned to create a hot spring with it.

The fourth floor was a lounge Perry Yates was keeping for herself, her own private territory. The Teleportation Gate was also placed on the fourth floor.

The fifth floor would be a warehouse and workshop, used to store the prey, cards, and other various things she brought back from the games.

These tasks might sound simple, but the actual workload was anything but small.

Perry Yates originally thought that even a five-star housekeeper would need a significant amount of time to sort everything out.

But soon, the five-star housekeeper showed Perry Yates exactly what "five-star" meant.

The single housekeeper instantly multiplied into more than a dozen people. They began completing the tasks Perry Yates had assigned with skilled, well-trained movements, leaving her dumbfounded.

At this rate, she would probably be able to open for business today.

However, she decided to wait another two days.

First, she needed to sort out her item cards.

She couldn’t just bring her entire net worth into every game, right? That would be too much trouble.

First was the Space Backpack.

The Space Backpack Perry Yates was currently using was a four-star one with a capacity of 10,000 cubic meters. She didn’t plan on replacing it.

Next was the Safe House, also a four-star item. Even though she hadn’t needed to use it last time, she still had no plans to replace it.

The Water Collector, another four-star item. Unless she encountered a game with extreme water scarcity, this item was a bit situational. Perry Yates planned to leave this item here.

The water it collected daily could be used by her or for other purposes.

The Spider Armor could also be left behind for now.

The Magic Water Pot was very practical. She planned to use Ascension to raise it to four stars.

The Undying Fire was also very useful. She planned to raise it to four stars as well.

The remaining Cat Face Mask, Card Storage Device, Tent Shelter, Candy Box, and Spiritual Ability Gun would all be left behind.

As for the remaining Protective Gloves, Identification Device, and set of knives, Perry Yates discarded them.

For the Identification Device, Perry Yates planned to replace it with a pair of cosmetic contact lenses. Not only could they perform Identification, but they could also protect her eyes. After Ascension to four stars, it would probably gain even more functions.

Regarding the Protective Gloves, Perry Yates had already used Ascension in-game to create a decent Protection Suit, which she planned to raise to four stars.

For weapons, besides the Spiritual Ability Gun, she had also used Ascension to create a stun gun disguised as a willow branch, and a Universal Knife.

No sooner said than done. A few days later, Perry Yates had successfully used Ascension to raise all the cards to four stars.

Perry Yates looked at the Dodder Seed growing from her hand, then wrapped it tightly around the corpse of a dead creature.

The once-plump creature began to deflate at a visible rate, just like a punctured ball.

The Dodder Seed’s ability allowed Perry Yates to directly absorb the energy from the creature’s body to replenish her own. This was much faster than eating.

Moreover, Perry Yates had checked and the entire creature had been consumed cleanly. Not a single bit of energy was wasted.

The reason she was able to complete the Ascension for all her cards so quickly was all thanks to the Dodder Seed.

However, compared to feeding this way, Perry Yates still preferred to savor her food with her mouth.

Besides these item cards, Perry Yates also prepared some low star cards to mislead others she might encounter in the game.

During this time, besides using Ascension on her cards, Perry Yates also had to spend time dealing with relatives who had suddenly appeared out of the woodwork.

Someone had leaked Perry Yates’s identity as a player. For the past few days, people had been constantly showing up at her door: relatives she hadn’t contacted in ages, old friends of her parents, and even former classmates.

Perry Yates was getting extremely annoyed by these people.

To avoid their disturbances, Perry Yates simply sold her house and bought a smaller apartment.

In any case, she spent most of her time living on the fourth floor of The Card Tavern now. This new residence was just for show, a front for others to see.
