Chapter 10: Chapter 10: The Warped Jungle 10
Perry Yates’s eyes lit up as she read the description of the giant wolf meat after its Ascension.
’Good. Thinking of the wolf’s massive size, I shouldn’t be short on food during this game.’
After roasting all the giant wolf meat, Perry Yates cut it into many bite-sized cubes.
She popped a piece into her mouth. It burst with juice—crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, rich but not greasy, with a flavor that lingered wonderfully.
After just two pieces, Perry Yates felt like she couldn’t eat another bite.
’Looks like this giant wolf meat not only restores energy, but is also extremely filling.’
Once all the meat was cooked, Perry Yates refilled an empty water bottle at the stream.
After finishing, she doused the fire and left the area.
Of course, she had saved some embers before completely extinguishing the flames.
...
With the abilities of the Spider Armor, Perry Yates now preferred to travel through the trees.
Not only did it give her a high vantage point to see far into the distance, but she also didn’t have to worry about accidentally falling.
It felt as if a thick layer of glue coated the soles of her feet, sticking her firmly to the tree trunks.
After walking for some time, Perry Yates suddenly caught a faint, foul stench in the air.
Following the smell, she found a hollow hidden beneath the roots of a tree.
The hollow was very similar to the two she had sheltered in before, but it was much larger. There were obvious signs of a creature living inside, along with fresh droppings and the remains of food nearby.
’Looks like whatever lives here isn’t very clean.’
Judging by the footprints on the ground, Perry Yates determined that a large predator must live here.
Just as she was debating whether to stay and see if she could scavenge something or simply leave, a furious, rage-filled roar echoed from the jungle nearby.
’A tiger?’
It sounded a little different, but it was remarkably similar to tiger roars she’d heard in videos.
’Could the owner of the hollow be back?’
’But from the sound of it, it seems to be in some kind of trouble. Otherwise, it wouldn’t sound so furious.’
With that thought, Perry Yates adjusted her cloak of weeds and prepared to investigate, hoping for a chance to scavenge.
After a few leaps, Perry Yates quickly spotted a Prismatic Tiger, a full seven or eight meters long, locked in a standoff with someone else.
Unlike a normal tiger, this one wasn’t just enormous; its fur was dark red, its eyes were bloodshot and vicious, and a terrifying scar ran across its face from left to right.
Even more shocking, the tiger had two tails.
And they weren’t ordinary tails—they were two venomous snakes, their eyes just as vicious as the tiger’s.
Perry Yates hid in the canopy, not daring to make a sound.
’As expected, this tiger is probably even stronger than the python and the two-headed crocodile I encountered before.’
But what shocked Perry Yates more was the person facing the beast. They showed no trace of panic, and were even fighting it on even ground.
The man was dressed in professional-looking gear. He was tall and lean, with blond hair and blue eyes. Every one of his attacks left a mark on the tiger.
Yet the tiger, helpless against his agility, could only endure the blows passively.
It looked like the blond foreigner had the upper hand, but Perry Yates could see the truth. The tiger’s hide was incredibly tough; the damage he was inflicting was negligible.
The man, on the other hand...
The tiger could make countless mistakes, but if the man made just one, he would be facing certain death.
Perry Yates had no intention of helping.
’When the snipe and the clam grapple, the fisherman profits.’
She would wait for one to finish off the other, and then she would make her move.
Despite her plan, her eyes remained fixed on the tiger. Clearly, she believed its odds of winning were much higher.
She glanced up.
The battle had already caused considerable damage to the surrounding trees.
The dense canopy above had been smashed open, and scorching sunlight streamed through the gaps, falling on Perry Yates.
Just then, a golden dagger formed of pure sunlight materialized beside her.
The moment the tiger won, she would plunge the dagger into its eye.
Since it was formed from sunlight, the dagger had inherent searing and explosive properties. Even if it didn’t kill the tiger instantly, it would take half its life.
Unfortunately, for all her wishful scheming, things didn’t go the way she’d hoped.
The Prismatic Tiger roared and lunged at the man, its claws whistling through the air with ferocious power. Each swipe seemed intended to rip the man who dared to toy with it to shreds.
Moreover, the two tails on the Prismatic Tiger weren’t just for show; they were living, thinking vipers. They stared hungrily at the man, revealing gleaming Poisonous Fangs, ready to strike a fatal blow at any moment.
The man retreated continuously under the ferocious assault.
Once he had been forced back to a specific spot, Perry Yates noticed an almost imperceptible smile touch the corner of his lips.
Seeing this, Perry Yates immediately realized the man must have an ace up his sleeve.
’Does he have other companions?’
’But that can’t be right.’
She had just scanned the entire area and found no trace of anyone else.
Forget people, there wasn’t a single living animal to be seen—though there were plenty of dead ones.
But soon, Perry Yates noticed something was off. There seemed to be something new around the Prismatic Tiger.
They were crisscrossing threads, as fine as spider silk.
’Is it a trap?’
Sure enough, the next second, the ferociously attacking Prismatic Tiger froze as if immobilized, its forelimbs raised in an attack stance, completely still in mid-air.
Seeing his chance, the man didn’t hesitate. He pulled out a dagger and lunged, stabbing at the Prismatic Tiger’s soft underbelly.
Once, twice, three times...
The man didn’t stop until the ground was stained red with blood and the Prismatic Tiger was no longer breathing.
The man then waited a moment, but the Prismatic Tiger’s corpse showed no reaction.
At this, the expression on his face shifted from elation to rage, and he started shouting words Perry Yates couldn’t understand.
Although she couldn’t understand him, Perry Yates had a good idea why he was angry. It had to be about the card.
However, while he might not have been able to see it from his angle, Perry Yates could see clearly from hers. The tiger was dead, but the two snake heads on its tails were not.
Or at least, not completely.
