Chapter 1085: Unable to React
A high-pitched alarm rang, alerting the entire base.
"!!!"
"Enemy!"
They scrambled, wondering where the enemy was.
"What’s going on?"
"Where are the enemies?"
"Have we been infiltrated?"
The soldiers were confused. There was no ruckus, so they wondered if it was just a false alarm.
Bam!
Suddenly, the roof of the building that was supposed to contain the tower collapsed.
"!!!" All the soldiers couldn’t help but widen their eyes. They immediately rushed to the building. "Enemy!"
"What the hell?"
"How can the enemy infiltrate this deep without anyone noticing?"
They panicked, wondering if there was a hole in their defense. For the last few months, they had been strengthening their defense, so they didn’t expect that all that reinforcement was useless.
...
Underworld.
The same alarm rang across the base, alerting everyone that someone had infiltrated their base or the tower.
Because nothing happened in their base, they thought that the enemies infiltrated from the surface.
A soldier rushed to a building, opened the door, and saluted. "Sir!"
"I know, I know. I can hear the alarm. So, what’s going on? We don’t seem to be under attack, so..."
"It must come from above, huh?" He stood up. "All right. In that case, I will head inside the tower just like the original plan."
"That’s actually the problem, Sir Sword Saint."
"The problem?" The Sword Saint squinted.
"According to the report from above, the Libation Fiesta has already entered the tower."
"What?" The Sword Saint was baffled. Their plan was simple. Before Auric entered, the Tier 9 human in charge of the specific tower would enter first. This would trap them with the Libation Fiesta.
They would then hunt the Libation Fiesta within the tower. If they escaped outside the tower, there would be soldiers who would stop them or at least slow them down.
At the very least, they should be able to kill half of the Libation Fiesta members with this plan. Clovis’ ambition would surely be crushed with half of his members gone.
After all, each of them was exceptional. It would be hard to find a replacement for them.
However, what happened couldn’t be any more different.
How could they be so fast? He hadn’t even had the chance to react, yet the report had actually shown that Clovis had entered the tower.
Not wanting to believe it, the Sword Saint grabbed his sword and exited through the window, leaping straight toward the tower.
In the air, he could see soldiers gathering in front of the entrance, trying to touch the tower. As expected, there was an invisible barrier that kept them outside, showing that the Libation Fiesta had entered.
As soon as he landed, the soldiers made space for him before saluting. "Sir..."
"What’s going on? How could they enter so fast? Did they massacre the entire base or something? But one of the soldiers should be able to alert us before that happens." The Sword Saint gritted his teeth.
"We..." They were also confused. The expectation was for them to resist Clovis with their entire might. Even if they were defeated, they would still slow him down a lot. This would give the Sword Saint time to enter the tower.
Yet, for some reason, they managed to enter the tower without any risk.
Suddenly, an officer rushed to him and saluted first before reporting, "Sir, we’ve received another report. It looks like the Libation Fiesta managed to enter the tower without anyone noticing.
"The only sight of them was in the building that covered the tower. They killed two Tier 7 guards right away and blew away the others in seconds. After that, they entered the tower. It took them approximately 8 seconds to complete the entire process."
"What?" The Sword Saint was dumbfounded. "How could that be?"
"We’re in the process of identifying the problem."
"There must be a mole." The Sword Saint gritted his teeth.
The officer couldn’t say anything. Even he didn’t expect that they could find such a mole. All the soldiers who worked here should have passed a background check.
They shouldn’t have been working for the Hacfield family from the start.
"Hurry up and figure out that sneaky bastard!"
"Yes, sir." The officer panicked and rushed back.
The Sword Saint gritted his teeth. "What’s the situation up there? We will need a defensive formation. Since they have to exit soon, we will need to get ready. Have the tanks come to us. Prepare the fighter jets as well. If necessary, we will bombard them."
The soldiers were scrambling, trying to prepare their defense according to the instructions.
The Sword Saint couldn’t help but touch the barrier. He was a bit curious about this barrier as well.
After all, he had heard that the Spear Saint couldn’t enter the tower because of this barrier.
That was why his plan was slightly different. He stayed in the underworld’s base instead of protecting the surface.
"The indestructible barrier. The special tower..." The Sword Saint frowned. When he crossed this tower before, there was no such barrier.
In addition, it didn’t look special in his eyes. Yet, why would it suddenly react when the Libation Fiesta entered it?
"Is there a key to activate the towers? Does the Prophet know something about this? No, from the looks of it, even the Spear Saint might know something about this." The Sword Saint frowned.
As the newest Tier 9 human, he didn’t know anything about the special towers other than the fact that they had their own uniqueness.
On the one hand, he wanted to know about the secret as well. On the other hand, he had pledged his allegiance to the Prophet as he had helped him to reach Tier 9.
In the end, he could only sigh, realizing that he should gain the Prophet’s trust first before he asked about the secret.
Killing Clovis would definitely be more than enough to gain the Prophet’s trust. That was why he was determined to crush the Libation Fiesta here.
"Just you wait, Libation Fiesta. Once all of you exit the tower, I will hunt you down."
