Chapter 1059: See It Through
While the Libation Fiesta headed back to Absalom, Clovis disappeared one more time, using the passage from Vina to head to Kayne.
Unfortunately, he didn’t meet Kayne on the way. Even if he did, it would be troublesome if they returned together. People would have a lot of speculation, thinking that Clovis might leave the country.
At the same time, people would also think that Kayne was Clovis’ ally. Clovis might not mind if they thought this way, but it would definitely trouble Kayne because he might have to fight against the Prophet completely.
That wasn’t the way Clovis wanted to repay him.
Since he had to ensure that there was no trace of him, the process itself took quite a bit of time. As a result, he only arrived at Kayne’s mansion five days after he disappeared.
"Looks like you’ve come." Kayne nodded, signaling Clovis to go to the back.
They once again met at the back of the mansion, but unlike the first time, they didn’t intend to talk in the garden.
Kayne first opened the window, asking Clovis to enter through it. It turned out that the window led directly into his office.
"These are the paintings I promised." Clovis took off the paintings that had been tied to his back.
Kayne nodded. "Looks like you indeed intend to give me two."
"Aren’t we supposed to fulfill the promise we’ve made? Rather than taking back a promise, I’d rather make fewer promises." Clovis smiled.
"Indeed." Kayne agreed. "So, these are the paintings that people are trying to get..."
"Yes." Clovis introduced them. "The painting in your hand represents speed, while this one..." Clovis patted the other painting. "...it represents dexterity."
"Hmm... I don’t really need them, so I guess it isn’t fated to me. However, it will surely help a lot of people."
"Yes."
Kayne thought for a moment. "It makes me curious how you’re able to produce all these paintings."
"I’m sorry, but that’s a trade secret."
"I’m not going to force you to say it. I’m just telling you that I have a few speculations. The first speculation is that your unique ability is similar to Mara Leverstrike.
"Mara Leverstrike’s unique ability might be focused on killing intent, but it boosts all affinities to 100%.
"You may possess something similar, but the way you apply it is different. Mara uses it to enhance herself, while you use it to create these artifacts. Am I right?"
"Who knows?" Clovis remained smiling. He didn’t have any change of expression, but he thought it was a rather reasonable speculation. At the same time, it was quite convenient because Kayne would just believe it.
"Well, we are not here just for me to play a guessing game." Kayne shrugged. "I guess I will inform the government about the paintings. Just let me confirm this first. No words about our cooperation, okay?"
"Yes."
"I will just tell them that I have tracked down the thieves who stole the paintings and secured two of them." Kayne shrugged. "That will be the official statement."
"Indeed." Clovis agreed.
"You sound as if the paintings had never been stolen in the first place." Kayne squinted his eyes.
"How can that be? I’m still tracking down the thieves."
"Yeah? You may not know it, but when Lily hid something she was assured of, she would agree with a serious expression. Just like what you did earlier. If you want to lie to me, you should at least try to think about it first."
"..." Clovis smiled wryly. "You are rather obsessed with Grandmother."
"Well, unrequited love for fifteen years." Kayne shrugged. "Well, I am probably the only one who can see through your lies. And it doesn’t really matter to you."
Kayne looked at the paintings. He intended to display it somewhere near him so that no one would be trying to steal it.
The government would probably agree to it and create a mini-museum for this painting. This way, people could admire it or even take advantage of it.
"I just want to ask one thing before I give you the clue." Kayne’s expression turned grim. "How far do you wish to go this time, kid?"
"How far?"
"Yes. How far do you wish to go after knowing everything about the truth? Are you planning to rule the world like the Prophet?"
Clovis shook his head. "I’m planning to leave this world."
"Leave this world?"
Clovis knew it sounded ridiculous. If this were a simulation world, they wouldn’t be able to leave this world. After all, data couldn’t turn into a real being.
However, Clovis knew more than anyone else that the real world might not be so different from this one. He wanted to leave this world to figure out the real situation.
He would make a decision whether he would stay in this world or in that world after figuring out everything.
Kayne saw Clovis’ resolution and nodded in understanding. "I see. Leaving this world. It looks like the way you see this world is different from other people. No, you might know what other people don’t know.
"That’s why you can confidently say that you’re going to leave this world. I only have one piece of advice for you if you wish to follow that path. I know how hard it will become. You may achieve the result you want, but you may lose something in the process.
"However, no matter how hard it is, you have to see it through. That’s the hardest part."
Clovis took a deep breath. "Yes, I’ve resolved myself to do that."
He didn’t know whether everyone turned out to be a player in this world. He might end up marrying the same people, but they might not be the same people.
There were a lot of uncertainties in his path, but he planned to push forward.
Rather than dying in uncertainty, he would rather suffer after knowing everything.
"Good. Let’s go then." Kayne waved his hand and walked to the left side of the office. He opened the shelf, which turned out to be a sliding one. Behind this safe was a safe door.
He opened the door leading to a hidden vault.
Clovis immediately widened his eyes after entering the vault.
"This is..."
