Chapter 407: Chapter 334: I Thought You Were Exaggerating, but You Were Actually Being Conservative

The cramped command vehicle was packed with people.

Due to procedural requirements, all of Shen Xin’s actions were under surveillance.

Thus, everyone present had heard the words Shen Xin muttered to Sergeant.

The prosecutor, Gao Siyu, sat in a corner, silently witnessing everything.

Meanwhile, Qin Chunyi and the others were gathered around the monitor, watching the real-time feed from Sergeant’s camera.

Gu Dawei said, "Is he really treating that cat like a person, just talking to it directly like that?"

The others were silent, but they were all thinking the same thing.

It felt as if Shen Xin was having a normal conversation with Sergeant, simply telling him what to do.

The question was, could a cat understand human speech?

’With that tiny little brain of his, could he really understand what he was supposed to do?’

Just as they were thinking this, Sergeant was placed on the ground. He melted into the night and, in a single bound, cleared the fence and landed in the villa’s garden.

The entire movement was as graceful as a swallow’s.

Everyone was secretly amazed.

Not even the most well-trained field agent could match a cat’s agility.

Just then, Shen Xin pushed the door open and came in.

It became even more crowded.

Those with insufficient rank, like Zhang Songhao, had no choice but to leave.

The others naturally made way for Shen Xin, letting him sit in front of the console.

A technician showed Shen Xin how to pan the camera and which button to press to activate the microphone.

The transmitted video feed was very stable.

The battery life was a little over an hour.

The collar had a fast-charging function and could be fully charged in as little as eight minutes.

But they could grab another one later to swap them out.

The villa had plenty of flowers and plants, and the front yard had an open-air seating area. After landing, Sergeant remained vigilant, not moving rashly. He hid among the plants, silently observing his surroundings.

Shen Xin tested the microphone. They had tried it earlier, and lowering the volume a bit worked fine.

The collar was close to the cat’s ears, and a cat’s hearing was no joke.

A faint sound would be enough for him to hear clearly.

"Sergeant, circle the villa and find a way in," Shen Xin gave the command.

They had tested it before, so Sergeant wasn’t startled. Upon receiving the order, he immediately shot off.

The others were surprised once again.

Hu Mingchuan said softly, "Captain Qin, this is just like a remote-controlled robot."

Qin Chunyi nodded slightly, thinking, ’This is way better than a remote-controlled robot.’

’A remote-controlled robot could never be as nimble as a cat.’

The camera shook, and they could get a direct sense of Sergeant’s speed from the feed.

Soon, he found an entry point.

A window in the first-floor kitchen was open, leaving a gap of about four inches.

A person definitely couldn’t squeeze through, but for a cat, it was just right. With a light leap, Sergeant entered the kitchen.

Faint light and sound drifted in from the living room.

The dark kitchen posed no obstacle for Sergeant. He leaped through the air and landed on the kitchen island.

The whole process was so light it didn’t make the slightest sound.

Just as he was about to leave, he suddenly whipped his head around.

On the island, kitchen utensils were scattered about. It was clear the target was someone who liked to cook but not do the dishes.

Sergeant was completely captivated and slowly approached.

It looked like the target had eaten a salad and some sashimi for dinner.

And there were some leftover scraps from cutting the fish.

Obviously, Sergeant had his eyes on them.

On camera, Sergeant had already lowered his head, and the sound of him crunching on the fish meat came through the pickup.

Shen Xin was mortified.

’We’re in the middle of a job, how can you be eating now?’

Qin Chunyi said urgently, "Shen Xin, stop him from eating! We don’t want the target to find out."

Shen Xin quickly used the microphone to command Sergeant.

It took telling him "stop eating" twice before Sergeant finally stopped.

Maybe it was the noise, or maybe Shen Xin had shouted a little too loudly, but in any case, the sound of footsteps came through the earpiece.

In the next instant, Sergeant moved as if he had teleported, seemingly leaping into the shadows beneath the kitchen island.

The entire movement was completely silent.

Then, the footsteps went from far to near, a light switched on, followed by the sound of a refrigerator door opening.

Shen Xin relaxed a little. It seemed he hadn’t attracted the target’s attention by speaking too loudly.

From the shadows, Sergeant actually poked his head out.

He looked left and right, then darted out of the kitchen in a flash.

For a moment, the camera shook violently. When it stopped, it seemed he had ducked under a sofa.

Once there, Sergeant lay low again.

A short while later, footsteps approached and stopped right in front of Sergeant.

Then the feet lifted off the ground, leaving only a pair of slippers in view.

Everyone suddenly realized: Sergeant was hiding under the sofa the target was sitting on.

Qin Chunyi even heard the sound of a can being opened and thought to himself, ’Well, I’ll be damned.’

Who could possibly detect such a silent infiltration?

Han Shicheng said softly, "See? I told you it would work."

This close, they’d be able to hear anything the target said crystal clear.

Most importantly, there was no way to be discovered.

So far, Shen Xin still hadn’t seen who the target was.

But based on the slippers, it was probably a man, likely an executive from Shenghai Bank.

The TV was on, and the target seemed to be watching a soccer game.

Sergeant stayed put under the sofa. At one point, Shen Xin asked Qin Chunyi if he should order Sergeant to move around and explore.

"No, this is good. Don’t rush it. We’ll take our time," Qin Chunyi said, waving his hand dismissively.

The effectiveness of this reconnaissance had already far exceeded his expectations.

He even turned to ask Gao Siyu if this method was compliant with regulations.

Shen Xin turned his head to look at Gao Siyu.

Whether this was permissible or not was his call.

Gao Siyu was clearly a bit stunned. He had never imagined a cat could be used like this.

He took a deep look at Shen Xin and said, "It should... be fine, right?"

He had spoken with his superior and understood the final compromise they had made.

The explanation they’d settled on was roughly that "I just happened to install an anti-loss tracker on a cat’s collar."
