Chapter 4: Prison
The Awakener Era had begun fifty years ago, when Earth became connected to the Moba World—a realm overrun by monsters and inhabited by Awakeners from another world.
At its core, both worlds competed to become stronger.
Although neither side was obligated to attack the other, that ambition had existed for decades.
And clashes happened frequently.
"Come with me. I’ll show you your job," Paul said.
He led Enzo toward the largest building in the city.
Rather than magnificent, it looked ominous, radiating a savage aura from within.
Enzo immediately guessed what it was.
The Monster Prison.
Newly Awakened weren’t allowed to leave the Sanctuary immediately. They first had to train inside the prison, gain combat experience, and raise their levels to at least Level 10.
Paul brought him inside.
The interior was brightly lit, lined with enormous prison cells.
At last, Enzo saw monsters with his own eyes.
Goblins.
Humanoid creatures with green skin, thick muscles, and bloated bodies.
Some were only half the height of an average person, while others stood twice as tall.
Yet they weren’t what frightened him the most.
The terrifying aura coming from beneath the building was far more unsettling.
The prison apparently had both an upper level and an underground section.
"Everything here is automated," Paul explained. "The cell doors open automatically. Your only job is to clean up monster corpses and blood after they’re killed—but only on this floor. Never go underground. There’s nothing for you to do yet. You’ll start working once the rookie Awakeners arrive."
He pointed at a sealed guard post.
The door slid open automatically as they approached, revealing a surprisingly spacious room furnished with a bed and a small sitting area.
"I’m the only one working here?" Enzo asked.
"That’s right. But that doesn’t mean you’ll have to clean everything yourself. Some Awakeners usually dispose of the monsters they kill on their own."
With that, Paul simply turned around and left.
Enzo scratched his head as he watched him go.
After looking around, he realized there wasn’t another worker in sight.
Every goblin inside the prison was staring at him.
It felt like being watched by wild animals filled with hatred and rage.
Feeling uncomfortable, he retreated into the guard post, closed the door, and sat down on the bed.
Oddly enough, despite being surrounded by concrete walls, he could still clearly see everything outside from inside the room.
He took out his phone.
Naturally, the Sanctuary had internet access. Cables connected through the portal linked it to Earth’s network.
(What do you mean you succeeded?)
Bella had sent him a message.
It was only natural since he hadn’t explained himself.
(I’ll explain later. Just know that I didn’t fail.)
After replying, he put his phone away.
"Game Menu."
The moment he spoke, his status panel transformed into a massive virtual gaming interface.
What amazed him even more was the appearance of a virtual keyboard and mouse.
Strangely enough, they felt completely real in his hands.
(Please create your character!)
(Select Gender: Male / Female)
His first task was choosing a gender.
"Female."
He selected it without hesitation.
It was simply a habit he had developed from years of playing LitRPG games.
The system then instructed him to design the character however he wanted.
He could even create an unbelievably beautiful woman if he wished.
In an ordinary game, he would have done exactly that without a second thought.
But this wasn’t just a game.
What if his character attracted unwanted attention from men?
On the other hand, if she wasn’t attractive, even he would feel awkward controlling her.
After a brief moment of consideration, he decided to create a slender young woman with pale, porcelain-white skin.
She had a cold expression and short black hair.
He adjusted her facial features and hairstyle until she looked almost like a handsome young man—a perfect tomboy.
She wore long pants and a short-sleeved shirt, with no earrings or feminine accessories.
DING!
(Please enter your character’s name!)
Violet Muller
Enzo typed the first name that came to mind.
DING!
(Character successfully created. Selecting an S-Class Talent...)
DING!
(Your character has obtained an S-Class Talent: Super Assassin!)
[Name: Violet Muller]
[Level: 0]
[EXP: 0/100]
[Talent:]
- Super Assassin (S)
[Strength: 6] [Agility: 10] [Intelligence: 8] [Vitality: 5]
[Skill:]
- Invisible (S)
[External Power: None]
(Assassin Super: A supreme assassin talent that automatically guides the user’s attacks toward the enemy’s most vital points, greatly enhances movement and attack speed far beyond the user’s Agility, suppresses the user’s presence, predicts the enemy’s movements with one hundred percent accuracy, and grants a killing intent capable of intimidating the enemy’s mind.)
(Invisible: A skill that allows you to conceal anything from you, including yourself.)
(Warning: Invisible makes you invisible, not intangible. You can still be hit by attacks!)
(Notice: Your character functions like a robot but possesses a genuine human body. While under your control, she will speak your words and mirror your facial expressions.)
The moment the creation process ended, the character materialized right in front of him.
His screen instantly switched to a third-person view from above, displaying Violet.
Through it, he could see the entire guard post, himself... and the tomboy named Violet standing directly before him.
She was completely expressionless.
Her empty eyes looked like those of a living corpse.
Without thinking, Enzo tapped the W key once.
Violet immediately took a single step forward.
Startled, Enzo instinctively stepped backward himself.
Only now did he truly realize just how incredible his Talent was.
Fortunately, there was also a key to dismiss his character.
The moment he pressed it, Violet dissolved into countless particles of light... and disappeared.
