Chapter 363: Chapter 363 - They never deserved you
A glass of water Voren had been holding for Seraphine shattered in his grip mid-story. The sharp crack ripped through the quiet cabin like a gunshot.
Water splashed everywhere across the floor while glass shards scattered around his feet.
His jaw locked tight, every muscle in his body going rigid as a deep, terrifying growl rumbled up from his chest. It grew louder and fiercer with each passing second.
His eyes darkened to something dangerous and feral. Bloodfang was fighting hard to take control. It was as if Noelle and Daisy were right in front of them to be torn into pieces.
"They did all that to you?" His voice came out rough and raw, barely human.
The pure fury etched across his face made Seraphine’s heart twist painfully. That anger wasn’t aimed at her, but it was all for her, burning hot on her behalf.
Before she could even respond, Voren shoved to his feet. The cabin suddenly felt way too small to hold the storm raging inside him.
He stalked toward the door and stepped outside, the cool air rushing over him, but it did almost nothing to tame the fury boiling in his veins. His hands clenched into white-knuckled fists, veins bulging along his powerful arms.
For years he’d suspected Seraphine’s childhood had been rough the moment he found out about her giving Daisy her blood, but hearing the brutal truth hit like a wrecking ball.
They had done all of that to a helpless child because of him. The thought made him want to hunt down every single person involved and rip them apart.
Seraphine watched him from the doorway, her chest aching. She knew without a doubt that if Daisy or Noelle were standing here right now, Voren wouldn’t stop until there was nothing left of them.
She quickly cleared the debris of the broken glass from the floor before she walked over slowly and wrapped her arms around him from behind without saying a word. The effect was instant.
The rock-hard tension in Voren’s shoulders melted under her touch, the growling faded away. His breathing gradually slowed as he closed his eyes for a moment and covered her hands with his much larger ones.
Then he turned around and pulled her tightly into his arms. They stood like that for several long seconds, neither of them speaking, just letting the soothing sound of the nearby waterfall fill the heavy silence between them.
Finally, Voren brushed a stray strand of hair gently from her face and guided her toward a massive rock near the cascading water.
The peaceful rush of the falls created a beautiful contrast to the raging emotions still churning inside him. He sat down first, then carefully pulled Seraphine onto his lap so she nestled comfortably between his legs, his strong arms wrapping protectively around her waist.
"What happened next?" His voice was calmer now, though the anger still simmered just beneath the surface, ready to explode at any moment.
Seraphine lowered her gaze, a sad little smile tugging at her lips as her fingers traced patterns over his hand. "You weren’t the only thing I forgot that day. I lost memory everything that happened, the whole awful mess, and now I suspect the strange woman who just disappeared was the white witch your shaman talked about."
The realization still stung sharply. "So many things make sense now. The way they treated me, the coldness, the harsh words, how they never acted like parents who actually loved their child." A bitter laugh slipped out of Seraphine. "Because they were never my real parents."
Voren’s arms tightened around her like he could shield her from the past. The words should have shocked him, but instead they just clicked everything into place.
"And that makes dealing with them so much easier," he said, determination flashing fiercely across his face. He was actually grateful now that the couple she’d known as her parents hadn’t been invited to the wedding.
"They never deserved you. Not even a little. It’s also why it was so easy for them to cut ties with you like you were nothing."
The thought disgusted Voren to his core, his gaze drifted toward the waterfall for a moment. "How could leaders like Alpha Humphrey and Luna Kylie let people like that hold the Beta position?"
Seraphine froze as the question sparked something that had been nagging at the back of her mind. She slowly placed a hand on his thigh. "Do you think..." She hesitated, her heart suddenly racing. "Do you think Madison and Einstein might actually be my real parents?"
The words hung heavy in the air between them, Voren stiffened immediately. For a long moment, neither of them spoke, as everything started falling into place. The warmth, the natural protectiveness, the way Madison always seemed to care so deeply. The little similarities they’d overlooked before.
"It’s possible," Voren said seriously, his voice low and thoughtful. "More possible than I even want to admit." He looked down at her, eyes softening. "Since they’ll be at the wedding, we can run a DNA test."
Hope sparked bright in Seraphine’s eyes. "Really?"
Voren nodded without hesitation. "Corvine already has them on the guest list, and he has your sample too." He didn’t waste another second, pulling his phone from his pocket and typing quickly.
’Corvine, when Madison and Einstein arrive, run their DNA against Seraphine’s. She got her memories back and found out Noelle and Chuck aren’t her biological parents.’
The reply came back fast. ’That would explain a lot. They’ve always acted more like Daisy’s parents than hers. Don’t worry. I’ll have everything ready before the wedding. The only issue is timing. We might need to handle it during or after the Full Moon Festival.’
Voren’s eyes narrowed slightly as he read it, then typed back: ’I know, and that’s actually perfect. Just make sure they don’t miss the Full Moon Festival.’
After sending the message, he slipped the phone away. Seraphine had been quietly watching him the whole time, but one thing was still bothering her.
"Daisy liked you way more than Ravyn," she said softly.
Voren let out a disgusted snort, pure revulsion crossing his face. "And I hated her more than my worst enemies." The cold certainty in his tone left zero room for doubt.
He had never liked Daisy, not as a kid, not as a teenager, and definitely not now.
His gaze returned to Seraphine, a dangerous glint burning in his eyes. Now that he knew the full truth, his plans were already rearranging themselves in his mind. His thumb brushed tenderly across her hand.
"With all this new information, we’re definitely changing the plan, don’t you think?"
