Chapter 338: Chapter 338 – Humphrey and Kylie knows something

After leaving Leon’s office, Voren headed straight for his helicopter. The conversation with the doctor had eased some of his worries. At least now DNA tests were in motion, making it a lot harder for anyone to mess with the results.

But his mind wasn’t really on the tests. It kept drifting back to Seraphine, to the memories she’d lost, and to all the years they’d been robbed of.

As the helicopter lifted into the air, Voren stared out the window, replaying every recent revelation. The more the pieces fell into place, the heavier the guilt weighed on him.

For years he had blamed Seraphine. He’d convinced himself she’d abandoned him, that she’d chosen Ravyn willingly, and that she’d simply forgotten everything they once shared.

Now it looked like someone might have stolen those memories from her. The thought made his chest tighten painfully.

By the time the helicopter touched down, his jaw was clenched tight. This visit was long overdue.

Before stepping out, he grabbed the several gift boxes he’d picked up earlier with Corvine’s help. The former Beta of the centenary pack had insisted he couldn’t show up empty-handed, and for once Voren had listened.

The powerful thrum of the helicopter blades echoed across the quiet clearing. Almost immediately, the front door of the modest house swung open, and Humphrey and Kylie stepped outside. The middle-aged couple looked stunned to see who had arrived.

"Alpha Voren?" Humphrey’s brows furrowed, his voice carrying a mix of confusion and caution. "To what do we owe this visit?"

The helicopter slowly powered down behind him, kicking up dust as Voren approached. Humphrey and Kylie had expected many things—arrogance, cold authority, maybe even demands.

What they didn’t expect was for Voren to lower his head in a respectful gesture. The move stunned both of them. For a man of his status, especially after their last encounter, it meant a great deal.

"Alpha Humphrey. Luna Kylie." His voice stayed calm as he glanced toward their home. "Can we talk inside?"

The couple exchanged a quick look. Whatever this was, it was serious. Humphrey stepped aside without another word. "Come in."

They led him into the small but welcoming house, where the familiar scent of baked goods and herbs hung in the air. It reminded Voren of simpler times, before politics, before betrayal, and before all the pain.

Once inside, he carefully set the gifts on a nearby table. Neither Humphrey nor Kylie touched them. Instead, they watched him with open curiosity. 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺

Voren remained standing until Humphrey offered him a seat. The difference between the man in front of them now and the one who had stormed into their home months ago with Ravyn was striking. The pride, the anger, and the cold arrogance had all vanished.

For several long moments, silence filled the room. Then Voren finally spoke. "Alpha Humphrey. Luna Kylie." His gaze dropped. "I came here today to apologize."

The couple exchanged another surprised glance. They genuinely wondered if someone had replaced Voren with a completely different person.

An apology was the last thing they had expected. Voren continued before either of them could respond. "The last time I was here... my behavior was unacceptable."

Regret flashed across his face as memories surfaced, the accusations, the insults, the unfair assumptions.

Most of all, the cruel things he had said to Seraphine, the woman he now knew had been suffering the whole time. "The things I said to Sera were unforgivable. But I’m asking humbly for your forgiveness."

The room fell quiet again. Humphrey and Kylie simply stared at him, at a loss for words. Finally, Kylie spoke. "You should be apologizing to Sera."

Voren nodded right away. "I already have." The sincerity in his voice was impossible to miss. Then his expression grew serious. "There is something I need to ask." Both of them listened carefully. "Were either of you aware that part of Seraphine’s memory had been blocked?"

The question hit them like a physical blow. Both looked utterly confused. Kylie frowned while Humphrey slowly shook his head. "No." The answer came without hesitation. They clearly had no idea.

Voren studied their reactions closely. Neither seemed to be lying. The silence stretched for a few moments until Kylie suddenly stiffened. A memory surfaced. "Wait."

Everyone turned toward her. She looked increasingly unsettled. "There was something." Voren sat forward immediately, his heartbeat picking up. "What was it?"

Kylie struggled to pull the details back. "It happened years ago. Daisy and her parents came to us one day." The name alone made Voren’s stomach turn. Kylie continued. "They said Sera had fallen and hit her head on a rock."

The room instantly grew colder. Voren’s heart sank hard. "How badly?" His voice came out strained.

Kylie thought for a moment. "They said she was admitted to the hospital. For three days."

The words struck Voren like a punch to the gut. Three days. Seraphine had spent three days in a hospital with a head injury, and he had never known. Not once.

Instead, he had spent years blaming her, convincing himself she had betrayed him. A wave of self-hatred crashed over him. His hands clenched into fists at his sides.

How much had she suffered while he stood on the other side judging her? How many chances had he wasted?

Still, he forced himself to stay calm. He needed answers. "Luna Kylie," he said, his voice rougher than he intended, "how did it happen?"

The older woman looked overwhelmed by the intensity of his questions. "It happened so long ago," she sighed. "Besides, Sera seemed fine when she woke up."

That wasn’t enough for Voren anymore. "What about a scar?" Both older wolves frowned. Voren leaned forward. "If she hit her head badly enough to spend three days in the hospital, there should’ve been a scar."

The question forced Humphrey and Kylie to think more carefully. Their expressions slowly changed from certainty to doubt. The more they considered it, the stranger it seemed. Humphrey rubbed his chin.

"Her head was already bandaged when we were informed." Kylie nodded slowly. "That’s true." Then her brows furrowed. "Now that I think about it... I don’t actually remember seeing a scar."

The answer deepened Voren’s suspicions. Something wasn’t right. Nothing about this story felt right. Every answer only created more questions, and at the center of it all stood one person: Daisy. The possibility that she had played a role in Seraphine’s missing memories grew harder and harder to ignore.

Voren forced himself to continue. "When she woke up... how was she?"

Humphrey answered this time. "Apart from headaches, she seemed normal." Kylie nodded. "She complained about them for a while. At that age she hadn’t gotten her wolf yet, so the doctors gave her medication. Eventually she recovered."

Voren absorbed every word. Then came the question he dreaded most. "And she never complained about memory loss?"

The room fell silent. His voice had grown colder without him realizing it. The sudden tension caught Humphrey’s attention.

The older Alpha sat straighter, concern flashing across his face. Something was very wrong here. "Alpha Voren," he said cautiously, "what exactly is going on? It feels like you’re leading us toward something we can’t see."

Voren closed his eyes briefly and took a deep breath. The truth was difficult to say out loud, especially now, when speaking it made everything feel painfully real.

Finally, he opened his eyes, raw pain shining in them. "I’m trying to understand something," he whispered. The couple waited. Voren swallowed hard. "I’m trying to understand why I’m the only person whose memories disappeared from her mind."

The words landed like thunder. Humphrey and Kylie instantly paled.
