Chapter 93: Chapter 93 Poison Words
Author
Three days later, Selina got out of the hospital.
Alpha Enzo was shaken by his daughter’s accident. He backed off from pushing her about anything.
Luna Nadia knew this whole mess started because of Elara. She couldn’t confront Elara directly, so she needed backup.
That’s why Nadia brought Selina to visit Elizabeth at the nursing home.
"Mrs. Park, this is Selina, Enzo’s daughter," Nadia said.
Selina was polite enough, speaking softly, "Hello, Grandma."
Elizabeth’s expression remained cool. "Hello to you too."
She wasn’t particularly fond of Selina, who had taken away the maternal love that should have belonged to her granddaughter.
"What brings you both here today?"
In all her years at the nursing home, Nadia had visited less than five times. This month alone, she had already come twice.
People don’t visit without wanting something, and Elizabeth knew this wasn’t going to be pleasant.
Nadia smiled weakly and nudged Selina. "Go ahead, tell Grandma what you came to say. She’s very understanding. She’ll listen."
Selina smiled slightly. "Grandma , I’ve come to apologize. There was a little misunderstanding between Elara and me that got out of hand. But she won’t answer my calls, which is why I’ve come to you for help."
She made the massive online bullying campaign against Elara sound like nothing. She barely admitted any fault and blamed most of it on Zack.
Elizabeth, who had been sitting with her eyes closed, suddenly looked directly at Selina. "Are you telling me my granddaughter was attacked online because of you?"
Her breathing got faster as she called for her caretaker. "Look this up online and read it to me."
Nadia and Selina’s faces fell as they tried to stop the caretaker, but they weren’t quick enough. The caretaker found the posts and began reading.
As the awful, hateful comments were read out loud, Elizabeth felt a sharp pain in her chest.
"Nadia, is this what you call a little problem?" she demanded.
"How would you feel if these things were said about you? Would you still think it’s nothing?"
The old woman didn’t use social media, but she wasn’t stupid. She listened to the news every day and knew that cyberbullying had driven young people to suicide. This Selina had clearly been trying to destroy her granddaughter!
All those horrible comments must have come from Selina!
"Mrs. Park, you don’t understand. It’s really not that serious. Just a few mean comments," Nadia tried to explain.
The caretaker quickly added, "Not just a few—thousands! And there are way worse ones I didn’t read!"
Elizabeth’s hands gripped her wheelchair armrests tightly. "Did you hear that, Nadia? Are you trying to kill your own daughter?"
"You’re not defending her at all. Instead, you bring the person who hurt her here and ask me to help! You want my granddaughter to forgive you? Never!"
"Nadia, who is really your real daughter? Do you have any heart at all? How could Elara be stuck with a mother like you?"
Elizabeth’s words hit Nadia where it hurt most.
Nadia lost control. "It’s her own fault for having bad luck! Who told her father to die so young!"
Elizabeth’s eyes filled with tears. "My fault! It’s all my fault! I should never have sent her to live with you when she was little."
"Get out. I don’t want to see either of you. Don’t come back!"
Nadia bit her lip, then stood. "Mrs. Park, you’re hurting Elara by doing this."
"Do you want Elara to hate me forever?"
"Stop trying to guilt-trip my granddaughter! If I accepted your apology, that would truly break her heart!" Elizabeth shot back.
Selina said nothing, following behind Nadia as they left the room.
After a few steps, Selina said, "Mom, I think I dropped my necklace in Grandma’s room. Let me go back and look for it. Wait for me."
"All right," Nadia said, rubbing her head, not wanting to go back in. "I’ll wait in the car."
Selina returned to the room, her eyes cold. Elizabeth was alone now.
She walked over quietly, her heels clicking against the hospital floor. "Grandma, you don’t have to forgive me. Honestly, I don’t care. My parents are making me do this whole ’family reconciliation’ thing."
"You! Get out!" Elizabeth said angrily, her frail hands gripping the bed rails.
"Oh, I’m leaving, but first I have something juicy to share. Did you know your perfect granddaughter married a complete disaster?"
Selina’s voice dripped with false sweetness as she leaned closer. "People say Dominic’s a playboy who can’t keep it in his pants. Others whisper he’s gay and using Elara as his beard. Grandma, I’m sure Elara told you Dominic treats her like a queen, that all the rumors are just gossip, but where there’s smoke, there’s fire."
"Look how pathetic Elara’s become. She’s miserable every day. But what can she do? She’s playing the perfect wife just to make you happy!"
"Every smile, every ’we’re so happy together’ - all lies, just to keep you from worrying!"
"Grandma, your precious granddaughter ended up with the town’s biggest scandal."
Selina’s cruel laughter cut through the air like glass, echoing like poison in Elizabeth’s ears.
Suddenly, Elizabeth felt a sharp pain in her chest. She clutched at her heart as Selina stood there smirking without caring before sauntering out like she’d just delivered a weather report
The caretaker had just stepped out to get water. When she came back, she found the old woman collapsed in her wheelchair.
"Mrs. Park! What’s wrong?!"
"Help! Call 911 now!"
