Chapter 167: Chapter 167 Standing Ground
Author
On the other side of the world, Alpha Hunter and Elizabeth were enjoying their vacation.
"Elizabeth, thank God Dominic found Elara. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have known what to do with that boy," Alpha Hunter said.
Elizabeth smiled. "Dominic’s a good Alpha. What’s there to worry about?"
Alpha Hunter looked serious. "You don’t know what happened. The night my mate died, Dominic was in a bad car accident. The doctors said they might cut off his legs."
Elizabeth gasped. "Oh my God, really?"
Alpha Hunter nodded. "I had Yardley take care of my mate’s funeral while I got pack healers from everywhere to save Dominic’s legs. I even flew in the best pack doctor from an ancient European werewolf clan."
Just thinking about it made Alpha Hunter’s chest hurt.
He stopped all news reports about it. With his mate dead and his son maybe dying, he had to deal with the funeral.
That’s when Alpha Hunter learned that even Alpha power can’t buy everything. It can’t bring dead people back.
After his mate’s funeral, Alpha Hunter stayed with Dominic.
But Dominic was so quiet. Getting better was hard. His wolf was so weak he could barely shift.
Finally, Yardley said they should send him to a special werewolf healing center in Europe.
Dominic said yes, but he wouldn’t let them come.
A lot of times, Alpha Hunter flew there secretly. He watched his son do therapy over and over, trying to reconnect with his wolf, hiding and crying.
During that time, Alpha Hunter felt like he aged ten years.
He would rather have Dominic be wild and crazy than have a broken bond with his wolf.
"But Dominic got through it," Alpha Hunter said, sounding relieved.
Alpha Hunter smiled proudly. "Yes, he did. His wolf came back stronger than ever. Even the pack healers said it was amazing. With hurt legs like his and such a damaged wolf bond, getting completely better meant lots of pain. Most werewolves couldn’t do what he did."
Elizabeth smiled. "Hunter, people say when someone hurts a lot, the rest of their life gets better."
Alpha Hunter laughed a little. "Well, Dominic finding his mate Elara is definitely good."
When she thought about her granddaughter, Elizabeth looked sad. "Our Elara is so sweet. Her father treated her like a princess. But that didn’t last. She was only five when she cried so hard at her father’s funeral. You don’t know how mean her mother was."
"After my son died, Elara had bad dreams. We tried everything. Back then, Nadia was always out. My husband and I asked her to come home early, but she didn’t care about her daughter. She just did what she wanted."
"So I held Elara every night, making her feel better bit by bit. It took a month for the bad dreams to stop."
After that, Elara changed from happy and fun to quiet and shy.
And then, at the worst possible time, Luna Nadia had announced she was remarrying.
"I was always afraid Elara’s gentle nature would make her an easy target. But my husband and I were getting older. We couldn’t be there for her all the time. A child with no one to protect them naturally becomes scared. And she was kind, too caring. Back then, I saw those as weaknesses. I wished she could be a little tougher."
"Now that she’s finally stood up to that heartless mother, I think she’s finally grown up."
Both elders sighed together. Neither of their children had had an easy life.
"Elizabeth, we need to work harder to help those two get closer so they can support each other later!" Alpha Hunter said firmly.
Elizabeth agreed completely.
As the two got ready to return to their rooms for an afternoon rest, an unwelcome visitor arrived at the mountain resort.
Luna Nadia knew that if she tried to find Dominic, he would never talk to her. So she’d worked hard to track down Alpha Hunter’s location.
She just hadn’t expected Elizabeth to be here too.
Even though Elizabeth had memory problems, she was clear-headed for at least half the day.
After just telling Alpha Hunter those painful memories, Elizabeth made an angry sound when she saw Nadia coming over. "Nadia, what are you doing here?"
Nadia’s face went pale. "Mom, I came to speak with Alpha Hunter."
"Don’t you dare call me ’Mom.’ When my son died, you stopped being my family!" Elizabeth said angrily.
Luna Nadia didn’t want to argue with Elizabeth. She turned to Alpha Hunter instead. "Alpha Hunter, I know we’ve had problems, but those problems were all caused by Elara’s lies."
"Elara has always been jealous of Selina. I know she doesn’t like me for favoring Selina, and she used to have feelings for Selina’s boyfriend. That jealousy made her frame Selina. Please, Alpha Hunter, see the truth. No matter how jealous she is, she shouldn’t harm others."
"I’m not asking for much. I just need Alpha Hunter to get Patterson to help Selina in court. That’s all I’m asking for. Just this one thing."
BANG!
Elizabeth hit her cane hard at Nadia’s feet. "Nadia, you’ve crossed the line! Elara is your own daughter, and you’re saying these terrible things about your own child. Do you have no heart?"
"I’m not lying! Everyone knows Elara had feelings for Zack! I just don’t want Alpha Hunter to be fooled!"
As Elizabeth looked around for something bigger to hit Luna Nadia with, Alpha Hunter looked angry and handed over his own cane. "Elizabeth, if you’re going to hit someone, hit them where it counts!"
He helped Elizabeth’s arm as she swung his cane, bringing it down hard on Nadia’s back.
"Oww!" Luna Nadia cried out in pain.
"Perfect!" Alpha Hunter said coldly.
Alpha Hunter laughed harshly. "This is the first time I’ve ever seen a mother attack her own daughter like this."
"I don’t care who Elara liked before, and neither does Dominic. But right now, Elara likes our Dominic, and that means our boy is the right one!"
"Zack? That weak pretty boy doesn’t compare to my son! Even if Alpha Enzo’s daughter threw herself at Elara, she wouldn’t want her!"
"Let me be clear: if you keep telling lies about Elara, I’ll hit you again!"
"You want me to get you a lawyer? You’re crazy. Security! Get this woman out of here!"
"Remember her face! She’s banned from all Wolfe pack territory from now on!"
Elizabeth clapped. "Good job! She’s lost her mind."
When Luna Nadia was kicked out of the mountain resort, she looked completely beaten.
Her back hurt badly, but what made her truly panicked was not knowing how she would explain this to Alpha Enzo.
Alpha Hunter comforted the elderly woman. "Elizabeth, from now on, when dealing with crazy people, don’t waste your breath. Just hit them."
"Hit them a few times, and they’ll learn."
Elizabeth felt really good. "Thank you, Alpha Hunter. I’m so glad you were here."
"Don’t worry! From now on, we’re both on Elara’s side!"
